I don’t have a lot to say today. This is mostly due to having a huge workload (spring is our busy season), so my brain is kind of fried. I didn’t have the results I wanted this week, but it wasn’t too bad. A half pound gain can be anything, even a little bit of extra water weight. To be honest, I was afraid it would be more because I’ve been so busy, it’s been kind of hard to keep up with everything. And I haven’t been able to exercise at lunch because I’ve only taken about 20 minutes for lunch most days this week. One day I didn’t even go to lunch, just wolfed down something here at my desk. But there’s light at the end of the tunnel. The big orders are slowing down, so it’s mostly small internet orders I’ll be dealing with now. Whew. I’m SO tired.

Stats for this week:
Beginning weight: 193
Today’s weight: 175
This week’s gain: .5 lbs. (notice the decimal-half lb., not 5 lbs. hahahaha)
Total loss: 18 lbs.

No, I didn’t fall off the wagon or anything. It’s just that I only got about 3 hours sleep last night…or should I say this morning. My husband had gone out to the car about 10 last night to warm up his car before he went to work. It’s really dark out there and he stepped in a hole, turning his ankle. He heard a sickening pop. Bless his heart, he CRAWLED back to the front door. He has a chipped bone in his ankle, and he’ll be out of work at least a week. He’s on crutches now. I don’t know how we’ll pay our bills this month. 😦 We’re living from paycheck to paycheck the way it is, and now we’ll be even farther behind. But the good news is he isn’t hurt as badly as he could have been, and that’s what’s important.

I keep wondering if I’ll fall asleep at my desk and someone will hear me snoring….

But here’s the good news.

Stats for this week:
Beginning weight: 193
Today’s weight: 176
This week’s loss: 2 lbs.
Total loss: 17 lbs.

Soon I’ll weigh less than my husband. 🙂

So…I had been wearing a size 18 in jeans before any weight loss. They were a little loose on me, but I couldn’t quite get into a 16 yet. For my birthday in January, my husband bought me a pair of size 16, and they fit. I was really happy about that. He remarked that maybe he could buy me a size 14 for Valentine’s Day. I said “Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.” Yesterday, for Valentine’s Day, he handed me a pair of size 14 jeans and said, “Remember what I said on your birthday? Maybe you can wear these soon.” I went to the bedroom to try them on. Because, you know, I just HAD to. Then I came out of the bedroom and modeled the PERFECT FITTING JEANS for hubby. 🙂 Down two sizes!

Stats for this week:
Beginning weight: 193
Today’s weight: 178
This week’s loss: .5 lbs.
Total loss: 15 lbs.

I was a little disappointed that I only lost .5 lbs., but I’ve been losing pretty fast lately, so it had to slow down at some point. I’m happy with any loss. 🙂

It’s so hard to fit exercise into our routines. Something always seems to come up. Like on Monday. I’ve been eating lunch about 11:00 to 11:30 at my desk, then going to exercise at the gym at about 1:30 or so. But on Monday, the day got crazy. I had to work right through my exercise time because I was trying to find out where the truck was that had my customer’s shipment. I had to sit here waiting on phone calls and emails. By 4:00, there wasn’t much sense in going because my office would have been closed when I got back. So I’ve started exercising after work. The biggest problem with that is my car wants so badly to point toward home after a hard day at the office. And this time of year, they are all hard days. Plus, my feet seem to hurt worse this time of day. What to do??? I’ve just got to find the best time to exercise and do it. And maybe be flexible enough so that I don’t HAVE to do it the same time every day. What do YOU do for exercise, and when?

Beginning weight: 193
Today’s weight: 180
This week’s loss: 2 lbs.
Total loss: 13 lbs.

Do I get a sticker?

Well, as I mentioned Wednesday, I had a couple of good writing days. However, I woke up Wednesday with a sore throat and was kind of miserable traveling back from Baltimore, a ten hour drive. I’ve been sick since then, so I haven’t really felt like writing. I did go out for dinner last night for my birthday (a few days early) with family and a couple of friends, but I coughed so much last night I couldn’t sleep. I seem to feel better during the day and miserable at night. I’m not going to beat myself up over the lack of writing because I know what crap I would have written while I was feeling so bleh.

On the health front, my blood sugar is doing great on the 24 hour insulin. I SO hope I can get off of it or at least cut down the dosage. I’ve lost about 10 lbs. in the last month, so I’m happy with that. I didn’t walk on the treadmill on Friday because I felt so bad, and I really missed it. So exercise has become a habit that I miss when I don’t do it. That’s a good thing. I want to keep up with the treadmill through the month of January, then add back the weight work in February.

Okay, enough talk. I’m going to rest for awhile now….

Whinefest

Okay, this post is going to be all about the whining. So read no further if you’re not in the mood for it.

Most of you know that I was diagnosed with diabetes. This means insulin shots, oral medication, AND cutting back on sugar and carbs. Sweets aren’t my big weakness, so that wasn’t much of a problem. And I realized I wasn’t eating as many carbs as the maximum for diabetics. I can deal with that, right? I was doing fine. However, I did notice I was eating more fats than I should, which I was really going to try to cut down on. So, yesterday, I got a phone call from a nurse at my doctor’s office. My cholesterol and triglycerides are too high. This means cholesterol medication (which means more money out of my pocket). But here’s the kicker. “You need to cut down on fats, red meat, and dairy.” What the CRAP can I eat now??? I think the biggest problem for me is that I don’t really like chicken. I like fish, but I’m really picky about how it’s prepared and how it tastes. And I really, really like cheese better than anything. You know, cheese that’s full of fat and happens to be a dairy product. So now, Miss Lauralynn, who never gets depressed, has to hop off her high horse and admit that depression is only a heartbeat away. Or maybe it’s just frustration and anger, because I want to hit something. Do I know how to eat properly? Of course I do. I worked for Weight Watchers for 15 years.

I need a plan. I need to suck it up and take what life has given me. But I don’t want to, darn it. I will, though. If I want to avoid health issues, I have to. My plan right now is to stop eating out for lunch. I can control what I cook, and I can take leftovers for lunch. At least, when I eat red meat at home, it’s really lean. And if I eat fish, I can control how it’s cooked. I can do this. If I’m really good five days a week, I can allow a little splurge on the weekends. I don’t have to give up enjoying food. I just need to rethink things. Yeah, I just need to do the best I can. Okay, depression, out of my way! I have no room for you in my life! 🙂

Funny how talking things out changes one’s attitude….

There are many reasons people work out. Looks, health, strength, etc. For me, it’s about health first, then looks. My original workout strategy was to work out with weights, legs on Monday and Thursday, arms on Tuesday and Friday. Some weeks I did okay, some not. If I had to skip a workout, I would work both arms AND legs the next day. My plan for cardio was to walk on the treadmill at home. Well, there has been no walking on the treadmill. You know how it is…when you’re at home, there are so many other things to do.

So here’s my new plan. I’m going to start doing cardio at the gym. They have state of the art treadmills, better than the ones at the bigger gym where I used to be a member. They actually have COMFORTABLE places to put your hands when you’re walking. The reason I want to focus on cardio for a bit is that my blood pressure has been high and, historically, cardio exercise has brought it back down with no medication. Then I’m going to start adding weight work back. I have a friend who won a month at this gym, so I would have to go in the evenings instead of at lunch if I go with her. Which makes me think…I could do some cardio at lunch and go back for weight work in the evenings. Maybe….

Another thing I’ve started doing is keeping an exercise journal so I’ll know exactly where I’m improving. Longer times and faster speeds on the treadmill. Heavier weights or more sets on weight work. I think this will help me stay on track, too.

So what about you? What are you doing to take care of your health? Do you have health issues that exercise would help with?

1. Writing – I haven’t written a word. I was so floored by my blood pressure situation that I decided to concentrate on health last week. Plus, I’ve spent HOURS preparing to teach Vacation Bible School. I hope I can get back on track on writing this week. I’ll be at VBS every night this week, but hopefully I can come home and write. I still need to get the junk off my desk in my office (piled up to get stuff out of the living room when I had my Pampered Chef party). I write better in my office instead of in the living room with the TV on.

2. Kittens – The kittens played non-stop for 6 hours in the house yesterday. It was like having two toddlers in the house. I had to constantly watch them to keep them out of trouble. They knocked over a plant, but I think I fixed it so hubby doesn’t find out. LOL. After six hours, they plopped down in hubby’s recliner and snoozed. I did decide on Willow and Oz for names.

3. Health – My goal is to walk five times a week. I started all of this Wednesday. I walked on the treadmill Wednesday after church and at lunch on Thursday and Friday. That was three times, but I didn’t start until the middle of the week. I’m learning to leave stuff on my plate, so I have leftovers from both last night and from lunch today. Actually, I have more than half of today’s lunch left over. I still haven’t been to the grocery store, so not much cooking done. With VBS all week, I may not get to the cooking until after that’s over. Oh, and I forgot to weigh this morning, so I guess I won’t be reporting weight loss (or gain) until next week.

4. Movie thoughts -We went to see Men in Black 3 last night since it was hubby’s birthday and that’s what he wanted to do. It was good, but not as good as the first two, in my opinion. I loved the first one. It’s one of my favorite movies.

How did YOU do last week?

I hope everyone is doing well with their goals!

Thursday, I was 611 words ahead of my goal, writing a whopping 2261 words that day. (Ok, that’s whopping for me.) Friday, I went to a birthday party, but I didn’t feel well, so I went straight to bed when I got home. Saturday, I went to a graduation party in the afternoon, and I just didn’t feel like writing. But, today, I wrote 1604 words, bringing me to 715 words ahead of my goal. And the good news, since this is a novella instead of a novel, is that I’m almost finished. So the last part of ROW80 will be used for editing. I think I’ll be done with the writing in a couple of days.

I’m seriously trying to improve my health. I haven’t felt good in awhile, so I’ve been worried about some things. Yesterday, I went to the health food store and got a vitamin/mineral supplement. My husband has started taking probiotics because he heard a doctor say that most bad stuff that happens to your body starts in the digestive system. If your digestive system has problems, then your whole body can have problems. So I’m thinking about taking them, too. Also, I bought some more alkaline water. What I’ve read says that if your body is more alkaline, then it’s harder for diseases to form there. Who knows? For every article that tells how something is good for you, there’s another article that says it’s hogwash. I figure we do the best we can. Exercise and a healthier diet certainly can’t hurt!

So how is everyone else doing? Is there any way I can help?
