Writing: I finally buckled down yesterday and wrote 1342 words on my WIP. That brings the total count to 2442. I’ve only written on this three days this month. I kept wondering why I’m so far behind since the round started the first of the month. Then I realized I finished edits on Soul of a Vampire, published the ebook, finished formatting on Vampires’ Curse for print, then formatted Soul of a Vampire for print. So I guess I was actually DOING SOMETHING this round. I have to get out of the mind set that ROW80 is JUST about actually writing a book. It’s about doing all the things related to writing. But now that everything else is done, I’m ready to write 5 days a week on my WIP. That’s going to be a real challenge this week since I have something going on every night except Friday.

Health: This went to the back burner last week. I had a lot going on, and the major issue was my cat, Willow. She was REALLY sick. The vet said she had a UTI, but it started with throwing up, which was weird. But she tested positive for the infection. Let me tell you guys, I was SCARED. She was lethargic, and she didn’t eat for days. I actually got so scared that she would get dehydrated and die that I force fed her a couple of tablespoons of water twice. She would go to her water bowl and dip her head down to it, but she wouldn’t drink! I had prepared myself for the worst, even though I was going to take her back to the vet if she didn’t start drinking water. After she was on antibiotics a couple of days, she started drinking water. Then she started eating. Then she started showing interest in stuff again. And today, I saw her playing with a toy. She’ll be back to normal when she’ll play with Oz again. He’s certainly tried to get her to play, but he’s just too rough, and she wasn’t feeling up to it. I bet by tomorrow, she’ll be holding her own against her brother. 😉

Drum roll, please. LOL. Anyway, the winner of the Soul of a Vampire giveaway is Kristina Haecker! Congrats, Kristina!

So here’s what’s going on for ROW80:

Writing: I’m about 1100 words along on my WIP. I’ve hit a few personal snags that’s kept me from writing as much as I’d like, but I think the rest of the week, and the weekend, will get back to normal.

Print book update: They’ve sent me the proof for Vampires’ Curse, so I’m just waiting on that. I’m also waiting on Anya to finish the print cover for Soul of a Vampire. I asked her to change something, so it’s my fault it’s not finished. LOL.

Health: I haven’t worked out yet this week. Monday I was having a major issue with one of my feet, and yesterday I used my lunch hour to write because I was going out to eat last night with a fellow author who lives here in town. (I think she would wish to remain anonymous, LOL.) I didn’t get in until late. I hope to return to my routine tomorrow.

So, what’s up with the rest of you?

I’m sitting here a little disappointed because the first 50 people who register for the RNConvention get to have a special VIP brunch with Jimmy Thomas and some other hunks. Anya and I were all set to start registering as soon as it opened at 3:00 PM on Saturday. But they changed it to tonight, at the same time church starts. Bleh. Anyway…onward.

Formatting for Print

After fighting so long with page numbers on the print version of Vampires’ Curse, I finally got it to work! So while it was still in my mind how to do it, I went ahead and formatted Soul of a Vampire. So I’ll be publishing both of them on CreateSpace pretty close together. Anya has to work on the print cover of SoaV first. She pretty much has VC done…she was just waiting on me to tell her how many pages it was going to be.

Writing

I finally started on the book I’m co-writing with my husband. Right off the bat, we disagreed on something. He wanted more description about the MC’s feelings before he has an accident. I think I started it right and that it doesn’t need anything else. So I stopped writing if for a little while. Then I picked it back up and didn’t change anything. I can always add more later if hubby still feels like it needs more. I ended up writing 560 words, but I would have liked it to be more.

Health

I’ve been faithful to my workouts, going to the gym 3-4 days a week. But I need to add cardio. I’m going to order some Chaco running/walking shoes because since I’ve been wearing my Chaco sandals, no shoe feels good on my feet anymore, even my Tone-Ups. When I walk on the treadmill at home, I could wear my sandals, I guess. But at the gym, they expect you to wear appropriate shoes. Since I found an extra $112 I didn’t know I had, I can buy those shoes. 🙂

Most of you know I just released Soul of a Vampire. This is the thirteenth work I’ve released (although two of the releases are compilations of some of the others), and I still get all excited when I release something new. Keep your fingers crossed for me. And don’t forget to enter the giveaway on my blog!

Now on to the next project. I finally started looking over the notes my husband and I made last May for a book idea that came into his head. Some of you will remember that my husband suddenly had this awesome idea for a book, and I told him I would write it for him. We brainstormed on the way to Florida when we were going on vacation. I think the way I’ll handle the author credit on this book is to put both of our names on it. Or say Lauralynn Elliott with Jim Elliott…something like that. Anyway, after going over the notes and getting a rough outline, I know how this book starts and ends. I have several points for the middle, but a lot of those will be filled in later. I’m excited and scared because I’ve never collaborated with anyone before, and I certainly never thought it would be my husband I would write a book with. My plan is to write at least one hour a day, five days a week on this. We’ll see how that goes.

What do you mean, it’s October? LOL Where does the time go? I’m loving our fall weather after so much HEAT this summer. So here’s what’s going on:

Writing: I’m still in the midst of editing Soul of a Vampire. My hopeful publishing date was Oct. 4, but I had completely forgotten about our revival at church. Plus, I’ll be in Tallahassee Fri-Sun for a work trip. If I can swing it, I might get it done by the 4th (isn’t that tomorrow?), but we’ll see. Also, I haven’t started on my next WIP yet because of the aforementioned revival. I will probably start on Thursday.

Health: I’ve been faithful in my workouts so far. I’m very, very sore. I’m still working on the eating habits, but I did leave about a third of my lunch on my plate Monday. So that’s progress.

How are the rest of you doing?

It seems like forever since I’ve had to state goals. I did well last round on writing goals, but not on health goals. Why are those so hard? You might wonder why some of us state health goals in a writing situation. Here’s why. The healthier you are, the more you feel like doing things. Your brain works better. So you can see how that would be beneficial to authors, right?

Anyway, to the goals. I’ve decided I’m going to go ahead and write the book my husband thought of. It’s an awesome story if I can just do it justice. The cover is already pretty much made for it, so that’s good inspiration. My husband didn’t really want it to have romance in it, but I told him if he wanted me to write it, then it WOULD have romance in it. The goal for writing that book is to sit down at the computer an hour a day, five days a week. No word count goals, although I do keep up with those anyway. I just don’t set a goal for them. My goal is the hour. If I do more, then that’s even better.

My health goal is to work out at the gym 3-4 days a week, depending on what time I have. Another goal pertaining to this is to eat less. No fries if I want a burger. Two slices of pizza instead of four. Have a few vegetarian days a month. Eat half of my food at restaurants and take the rest home for another meal. Those little changes that add up. I might add the goal of eating healthier food later, but right now, this is all I can handle.

The last goal is to not beat myself up when I stumble on the above goals.

I almost forgot to post today! I never miss posting on Sundays, but last week was so disrupted because of my trip to Chicago. I guess my days got mixed up. Anyway, I had a little progress this week, but not as much as I had hoped. I was sleepy all day Saturday. I just couldn’t get to all the things I wanted to do. I had no energy, and I kept falling asleep every time I started to watch something on TV. I think my body was making up for all the sleep I’m NOT getting lately (for one reason or another).

Here’s the word count: Tuesday-1096, Friday-1500. It was only two days, but the word counts were good on those days, so I’m okay with it. This book only has a few more scenes left before it’s finished. I’m still trying to figure out the love scene for the ending. I don’t think it necessarily needs the characters to have sex, but at the same time I get a little flack in reviews when my characters DON’T have sex. Whatever I decide, I’m certainly not going to tell since there are a few of you who I know will read the book. In fact, I’m not sure there necessarily has to be a steamy love scene at all, given the circumstances. See, now I’m really confusing everyone. LOL. But I’ll write what I feel when I write it.

I have no idea what my word count is right now. All I know is that I wrote a scene last night.

The person who booked my flight booked it for eight hours after the conference was over. So I’m sitting in an airport right now with my flight hours away.

I won an onion sculpture at the conference (donated by an onion farm). I had a little trouble at the airport. They had to pull me and my backpack aside where they proceeded to test it for SOMETHING, then they pulled out the sculpture and had to do further X-rays. I was very calm, didn’t get upset, and the TSA agent then told me how awesome she thought the sculpture was. The best thing to do in these situations is try not to get upset. Things will usually go better.

What? It’s Wednesday already? How did that happen?

My WIP is coming right along. I might do a cover reveal tomorrow because my cover artist, Anya, is getting antsy, wanting to put it on her website. LOL. Yesterday, I wrote through the scene with the first challenge/riddle. I think it went okay, but I haven’t read back through it yet. I have two more challenges to go before they have to fight a creature. Then I’ll have to do a major action scene which always scares me, but which one of my beta readers says I do well. Action is hard for me to write, but my beta reader said she loved my action scenes in The Gnome, so I hope I can do okay in this book.

How about the rest of you? Are you plodding along? Moving quickly? Doing nothing? I want to know!

It’s 58 degrees outside. 58! We haven’t seen a temp that low in months. I think the high is supposed to be around 87. I’ll take any temp under 90! 🙂

Word count was pretty good this week. Mon-2092, Thurs-1057, Fri-890, Sat-1678. I’m getting close to the end of my WIP. Just a few more chapters. (My chapters are short.) I think I’ve figured out the riddles, thanks to Anya Kelleye and her father. The next chapter I write should involve the riddles unless I think of something else I want to insert. And I think Anya and I have agreed on a cover for it. I’m so picky, I don’t see how she puts up with me. I ended up ditching a picture she had already bought for the cover. It just didn’t work for me. Seriously, when you find a great cover artist who you can work with, you’ve found a treasure, trust me.

I finally finished final proofing on Vampires’ Curse, so as soon as I make the changes, I’ll be ready to format for print. Then I can tell Anya how many pages it is so she can finish the cover.

I got the material cut out for a blouse and the bottom layer of my skirt.

I’ve been a busy bee. I didn’t mention all the boring housework and laundry. Plus the day job. Wait…I guess I did just mention it. LOL

How was YOUR week?
