When Kait, Susan, and I were together a few weeks ago, I was complaining because my back list was selling better than my Libby Fox novellas, which were newer. Books that I know aren’t as good as the Libby Fox series were selling better. Kait suggested that I compile the three novellas into one book and see how that worked. I figured it wouldn’t hurt, so that’s what I did. The Libby Fox novellas are now together in Vampires’ Curse. This is the first book I’ve ever uploaded with the $2.99 price. It’s still less expensive than buying all three novellas separately. ($1.98 savings.) The book went live on Smashwords last night and Amazon this morning. Here is the cover (yes, I love those sexy, romantic covers with Jimmy Thomas on them, so sue me) and the links. I’m curious as to how this experiment will go. I just hope that people who have already bought the three novellas make sure they read the description and don’t buy this thinking it’s a new book.

My husband was just commenting on how beautiful our dogwood trees were this year. These pictures don’t really show them as well as I had hoped, but maybe you can get a little picture of why I love living where I do. Please don’t pay attention to the grass that’s in desperate need of mowing.

This came from Susan Bischoff
1. Go to page 7 or 77 in your current manuscript
2. Go to line 7
3. Copy down the next seven lines as they are – no cheating
4. Tag 7 other authors
The is from the gnome book that still doesn’t have a name:
“No one blames you, Tara. We just hate that it happened. I wish the two of you could put it behind you.”
“Are you serious?” she asked incredulously. “He cheated on me. That’s that.”
“Okay, I understand. Thanks for considering inviting him, though. You know he’s always a lot of fun.”
“Yeah, a real blast,” muttered Tara after they hung up.
It was dusk when she heard a truck pulling up to the house. She looked outside and realized
Okay, what 7 authors shall I tag?
1. Nadja Notariani
2. J. R. Pearse Nelson
3. Michelle DePaepe
4. L. S. Engler
5. Darlene Steelman
6. Juli Hoffman
7. Alex Laybourne

As you all know, I’ve been so covered up at work that I haven’t had time to read and comment on all the blogs I try to keep up with. One of the blogs I have on my Google Reader is Brazen Broads, but I just haven’t been keeping up with what’s on my Reader. So, to my dismay, I missed a BEAUTIFUL review of my book, Haunted Lake that was written way back on February 28. I feel so bad that I’m only thanking them today. 😦 But here’s the link if you want to see the review. I actually had tears in my eyes. I noticed Moira gave my hero a 5/5 stars. This tickles me pink because he’s my favorite hero out of all of the guys in my books. 🙂

For a long time, I kept my satellite radio on the 60’s station. I always loved 60’s music, especially the Beatles. I’ve been a Beatles fan since I was 6 years old which is when I got my first album. But I realized that there are a LOT of boring songs on that 60’s station, too, so I was getting burned out. So I switched to the 70’s station. And discovered high school again! LOL. Yes, I was in high school during the mid 70’s. I bet a lot of you thought I was a lot younger, didn’t you? 😉 I also spent a LITTLE of the 70’s in the 7th and 8th grades. Since I”ve started listening to the 70’s station, I realized that there is a LOT of good music in that decade. And it was so varied. There were groups like the Osmonds, Jackson 5, Sylvers. Then there were the Four Tops, Spinners, and others that all dressed alike and did those cool dance moves while they were singing. And then there was Aerosmith, the Grass Roots (one of my favorite groups), the Three Dog Night. I’m not sure what to call each kind of music, although some of it was rock n roll. But for your listening pleasure, I’ve picked a few favorites of mine from my early years. Enjoy!
Osmonds (Donny was so cute!)
Grass Roots (ok, I admit this is probably from the 60’s but I listened to these guys in the 70’s. Notice how the two lead singers sound almost exactly alike!)
Joe Tex on Soul Train (I loved to watch Soul Train and I thought this song was cool. And I was dancing in my chair here in my office while listening to this.)
And my all-time favorite song by Paul McCartney when he was with Wings

Wow, I can’t believe this round is already over! It’s been a different kind of round for me. The last three rounds of 2011, I had a novella written and published by the time each round was over. The first round of 2011 was when I started my gnome story. My mom had a heart attack in the middle of the round, and I had to do a lot of things to take care of her before she got back to normal. I decided to put that work aside and do my three Libby Fox novellas for the next three rounds. In Round One of this year, I decided to take the gnome story back up and see what I could do with it. It’s pretty much finished except for the proofing and the tweaking. But is it good enough? It’s really different from the other things I’ve written. The first beta reader (the one that sees it before I edit) liked it. But the real tell will be when it goes to the others. Because each beta reader is different. I will get different points of view. So we’ll see. I still have to expand on that crazy fight scene at the end. I wish I was as good as Kait Nolan in writing fight scenes. 🙂
On the exercise front…most of this round has been a flop. However, for the past two days, I’ve gotten up at 5:30 and walked on the treadmill. This has more than health benefits. I’m habitually late for work. No one really cares here, but it bothers me. Since I’ve been exercising in the mornings, I’ve been early. I was here 20 minutes early this morning! And I feel soooo much better.
I can’t wait for Round Two. I hope I’m back to my old self, writing every day and getting things done! Maybe my full time job will slow down and things won’t be as crazy. So, how do the rest of you feel about Round One? Did you accomplish what you wanted to? Did you learn anything?

I almost didn’t check in today. I’ve been so busy with my full time job, and I’m just exhausted. I just finished doing some work (I can clock in and out from home and also access my work computer), and after church tonight, I’ll have more to do. So there won’t be much time for writing. I’m hoping this will only last a couple more weeks and I’ll be free to, you know, breathe. Anyway, there’s not much to report. I’m still waiting on the cover for the Libby Fox trilogy. That should be almost done. I’m interested to see if it will sell better or worse than the individual novellas, so this is kind of an experiment. I was going to do the trilogy together in print eventually anyway. I’m just not understanding why my back list still sells better than the newer Libby Fox books. There are vampires and werewolves….
I’m still in the editing process for the gnome story. This will be the first time I’ve ever written something that was not ready for publication at the end of an ROW80 round (except for this same story last year, LOL). I hope it’s not jinxed. I could probably get it edited and proofed in time, but I want to send it to my beta readers and get their opinions before I do anything. But, I can still work on something new for the next round while I’m waiting on betas, right? 🙂
Exercise is tanking because I’m just spending all my time doing other stuff. I really need to make myself a schedule so that exercise doesn’t fall behind. I think I exercised one day last week. Not acceptable!
How are the rest of you doing? Is anyone as busy as me and wishing they could write full time?

After trying and trying unsuccessfully to make myself expand on the fight scene at the end of the gnome book, I finally decided to print it out and start the editing/proofing process. I’m hoping by the time I’m at the end of the book, I’ll be fired up about the final fight scene. 🙂
Anya is working on the cover for the Libby Fox trilogy. I think I’m just going to call it Vampires’ Curse, as suggested by Michael Hubbard. It’s in two of the titles and it’s simple. Some people are mentioning that they think the apostrophe is in the wrong place. But it’s after the “s” on purpose. This is a curse for all vampires, not just one.
One thing that bugs me is when I go to a blog that’s all nice and pretty, and obviously a lot of work has gone into it to make it look great, but then I can’t read it. Sometimes it’s the fancy fonts that make a blog hard to read. Most of the time it’s the contrast between the background and the text. I went to the blog of a traditionally published author yesterday and the background was black. I’m not sure what the text color even was because I was out of there in seconds. Not only could I not read it, but it actually hurt my eyes! The contrast between background and text was horrible.
Here’s something that bothers me in some writing. Using big words to sound impressive. I know we need to expand our vocabulary and, as writers, we should find different words to use rather than the same old words all the time. But it really irks me when an author uses some off the wall words that most people would have no clue about. Sometimes the words don’t even sound natural in the story. They come off awkward and a little pretentious. Yes, stretch your vocabulary…but not to the point where it completely distracts the reader. Use the obscure words sparingly. A reader shouldn’t have to go to the dictionary more than once or twice. 🙂
