For a long time, I kept my satellite radio on the 60’s station. I always loved 60’s music, especially the Beatles. I’ve been a Beatles fan since I was 6 years old which is when I got my first album. But I realized that there are a LOT of boring songs on that 60’s station, too, so I was getting burned out. So I switched to the 70’s station. And discovered high school again! LOL. Yes, I was in high school during the mid 70’s. I bet a lot of you thought I was a lot younger, didn’t you? 😉 I also spent a LITTLE of the 70’s in the 7th and 8th grades. Since I”ve started listening to the 70’s station, I realized that there is a LOT of good music in that decade. And it was so varied. There were groups like the Osmonds, Jackson 5, Sylvers. Then there were the Four Tops, Spinners, and others that all dressed alike and did those cool dance moves while they were singing. And then there was Aerosmith, the Grass Roots (one of my favorite groups), the Three Dog Night. I’m not sure what to call each kind of music, although some of it was rock n roll. But for your listening pleasure, I’ve picked a few favorites of mine from my early years. Enjoy!
Osmonds (Donny was so cute!)
Grass Roots (ok, I admit this is probably from the 60’s but I listened to these guys in the 70’s. Notice how the two lead singers sound almost exactly alike!)
Joe Tex on Soul Train (I loved to watch Soul Train and I thought this song was cool. And I was dancing in my chair here in my office while listening to this.)
And my all-time favorite song by Paul McCartney when he was with Wings
Ooh I loved the Osmonds and Soul Train! I was younger than you then 😉 but still remember watching them.
Anya, I can’t believe you remember Soul Train. You were just a little thing. 🙂
Queen! Rush! Zepplin!
!!!!!
Queen. Yes! I never liked Rush. I found them boring. I like a lot of Zepplin’s stuff.
But…but…Rush! Pure musical joy!
I know…what’s wrong with me, right?
What? Not a Rush fan? How? I could listen to Neal Peart tap on a countertop.
You might also like the Boneyard on satellite. It’s all rock, so not much variety, but lots of good stuff from the 70s.
I don’t know why. Their music just doesn’t excite me. My taste is so eclectic, but there are just certain bands that don’t do it for me. Just like I don’t think there’s a better band that has ever lived than the Beatles. But everyone doesn’t think so. Btw, I just found out that the book value of my first Beatles album in good condition is $5000. 🙂
I listen to Boneyard every once in awhile. You know where I first heard about that station? In a Stephen King book. LOL
Andrew is totally my man-twin.
I’m beginning to see that.
You weren’t in high school in the seventies!! What?? I totally thought you were WAAAYY younger than that!
I love Midnight Confession.. you know, when I tell all the world that I love you?
Fun post!
Ha ha, Darlene. I knew a lot of people thought I was younger. It’s all in the attitude! 🙂 I totally do NOT feel my age…at least in my mind.
I always loved the Grass Roots. There were so many more videos I would love to have posted. Those four were just the ones that popped in my mind. I had forgotten about I Gotcha until I heard it on the radio yesterday. LOL
I LOVE the 70s so much! R&B was phenomenal, and so was rock. I’ve been blasting a mix of The Eagles, Journey, Boston, Chicago, Loggins & Messina, and any other classic rock group I can find. So much good music!
Lena, I think the 70’s was when R & B was at it’s best. Remember Barry White? Yummy voice! In fact, I had to go to YouTube and listen to that voice just now.
I really like the Eagles. Oh, and we can’t forget Bill Withers. (Aint’ No Sunshine, Use Me, Lean on Me) Oh such great tunes!
There was a lot of great music in that decade. I was a grade school disco queen in those days! (I still am occasionally on the treadmill when no one is watching.)
I have been known to occasionally dance on the treadmill myself. LOL.
Rats! We’ve just outed ourselves.
I missed the 70’s. I didn’t make an appearance until the mid 80’s, and so my knowledge of the music from that decade is non-existant. However, I have heard most of the songs you list above and they are indeed great. I mean the must of today, for the most part, sucks. The mainstream music at least, let me put it that way.
I have never been a big music fan, and if I ever listen to anything it is normally Country, but I will agree with you, the 70’s had some great stuff.
I agree that most music right now is pretty bad. I really like rock, even a little heavy metal, and most of what we’re getting now is, well, not that. LOL (I know I was about to offend someone with what I was GOING to say about today’s music.)
Country? Really, Alex? Hahahahaha. Just messing with you. Everyone has their own tastes, right? 🙂
Hey, nothing wrong with Country music! 😛
