ROW80 Check In 2/8/12

This post will be a lot more positive than the last one. I FINALLY got past my problems with my WIP! Yay! After much brainstorming Monday night at dinner with my friend and cover artist Anya Kelleye, things started to come together. Sometimes you just have to talk it out with someone. Plus, she had a lot of good ideas to add.

My Christian romance is going well. I wrote 1240 words on it yesterday during lunch. I’m not setting any cumulative goals, but I’m shooting for writing at least 500 words on it when I do get to work on it. I’ve exceeded that each time.

Exercise has been good. I think I posted on Sunday that I went bike riding on Thursday and Friday. Sunday night, I walked about 30 minutes on the treadmill. Yesterday, I walked almost an hour in the park where I bike ride. I would have ridden, but I had a friend who needed to talk. And I’m feeling much better physically and mentally.

Blog Frustrations & Cover Artist

The two things mentioned in my title have absolutely nothing to do with each other. I was going to just blog about my cover artist, but I’m so frustrated this morning that I had to mention what I’ve already mentioned in a previous blog. For my ROW80 friends who use Blogspot, I’m very, very sorry I can’t comment on your blogs. Some of you sometimes comment on mine, and I really want to reciprocate, but I just can’t get my comments to go through. This doesn’t happen with EVERY blog on Blogspot, but it’s happening on more and more of them. So please don’t think I’m ignoring you on purpose. Your blog just doesn’t like me. 😦

Now on to my cover artist, Anya Kelleye. I’ve never really acknowledged on this blog how much I love and appreciate her. She is the most patient and understanding person I know, and she really has to be when I’m being really picky about my covers. There have been times when I’ve asked her to do things over and over until it was to my liking. Some of my remarks have been things like: “He’s (or she’s) showing too much skin, cover it up.” “Those boots are so ugly, can you cover them up?” “Their faces look too stretched out, can you fix it?” “You know, I don’t like that road on there, can you just take it out?”(after she had worked and worked on getting that right) These are the things she has to put up with from me. And I know she has some more picky authors that make her change things a lot. And she does all this for such a reasonable price. She’s done my covers from the beginning, and I’ve seen her get better and better. She’s gotten better software, better hardware, and her covers keep improving. I’ve thought about letting her go back and change my first two covers, but I kind of like them. I’m leaving them as they are. 🙂

Apple Festival

I usually do spur of the moment posts. It’s usually something that triggers a thought and I want to talk about it. So I usually don’t schedule blogs ahead of time. But I’m doing that tonight. Why? Because, tomorrow (it will be today when you read this), I’m going to have a booth in our local Apple Festival. This is going to be a really tough thing for me because, in addition to my eggshell ornaments, I’ll be trying to sell the last of the baskets woven by my best friend who passed away on May 1 of this year. This will be the first time I’ve ever done this festival without her. She lived about 500 miles away, but she always came down for this, and we always had so much fun. This year, another of my best friends (and cover artist), Anya Kelleye will be there with me. She’s always helped us set up the booth and so many other things, but this year she’s staying there with me. I don’t think I could do it if she wasn’t there. So everyone send me nice thoughts while I’m at the festival and pray that I don’t cry.

So I didn’t write last night. There was a lot to get done, and I decided I didn’t have enough eggshell ornaments done, so I had to work on more of those. And I needed to get to bed early since I had to be at the booth at 7:00 AM. Wish me lots of sales!

Haunted Lake – In Print

I submitted my files to CreateSpace just a few days ago. Yesterday, I got the proof copy back. They are so quick! They were the same way when I did a print book for Jonathan Eli. I was very pleased with the way the book looked. The cover that Anya and I agonized over looked fine. So Haunted Lake is now available in the CreateSpace Store and will be available at Amazon in just a few days. Squee!

CreateSpace/Haunted Lake

Today I submitted Haunted Lake to CreateSpace for a print version. I’m really nervous, and I think my cover designer, Anya Kelleye, is nervous, too. The cover is going to be iffy. I love it, but sometimes there’s an issue with color on this particular cover. And it looks different on the computer screen than it does when I print it out on our color laser here at work. Also, I hope all the errors in the interior have been fixed. When Anya and I did the print version for Jonathan Eli’s book, The Last Cabbandeum, we were delighted at how it turned out. Her cover was perfect. The interior I did looked great. So, hopefully, we did okay on this one. If not, we can always redo it and order another proof. It costs more to do that, but it has to be right.

After this, I’m going to work on getting Starfane in print. Then, I’m going to do a three novella set in one book with Club Blood, See Me, and Guardian Vampire. I may have said this before, but I joked about calling it “Loving the Dead and the Undead”. :0)

ROW80 Check In 7/10

My goal is to average 500 words per day and to work on a short story when I can. As of yesterday, I was 432 words ahead of my cumulative goal. So I’m pretty happy about that. I haven’t worked on the short story yet, but that’s secondary and not a big deal. It’s going to be a freeby anyway. I’ve also gotten Haunted Lake very close to being formatted for print. The page numbers were kicking my butt, but I finally got them to cooperate. That should be out in paperback in a couple of weeks.

I got Jonathan Eli’s book, The Last Cabbandeum, on CreateSpace in paperback and it should be on Amazon soon. Anya Kelleye did a great job with the cover. When I got the proof copy, it was awesome!

I’ll check on the rest of you this afternoon after church and lunch. 🙂

ROW80 Check In 6/16/11

Yes, I’m a day late again. I seem to be late every Wednesday lately. LOL.

I got another chapter edited on Dark Relic: Vampires’ Curse. But I’m way behind on my projected release date. I’m glad I didn’t make an announcement. Some of my other author friends have taught me not to do that. :0)

I’m about ready to submit The Last Cabbandeum to CreateSpace for Jonathan Eli. I’m waiting on Jonathan to tell me for sure what he wants on the back cover so Anya Kelleye can get that done. I have a little tweaking to do on the inside, but that’s a one night job.

I’m a little frustrated with my editing situation, but I was out of town for four days and this week we have VBS. Yes, I’m teaching the little first and second graders. Scary, isn’t it?
