Today I submitted Haunted Lake to CreateSpace for a print version. I’m really nervous, and I think my cover designer, Anya Kelleye, is nervous, too. The cover is going to be iffy. I love it, but sometimes there’s an issue with color on this particular cover. And it looks different on the computer screen than it does when I print it out on our color laser here at work. Also, I hope all the errors in the interior have been fixed. When Anya and I did the print version for Jonathan Eli’s book, The Last Cabbandeum, we were delighted at how it turned out. Her cover was perfect. The interior I did looked great. So, hopefully, we did okay on this one. If not, we can always redo it and order another proof. It costs more to do that, but it has to be right.

After this, I’m going to work on getting Starfane in print. Then, I’m going to do a three novella set in one book with Club Blood, See Me, and Guardian Vampire. I may have said this before, but I joked about calling it “Loving the Dead and the Undead”. :0)

Stats

My rank on Amazon for Club Blood is back to 3 figures today. After hovering in the 1,000’s for several days, it’s back down to 686, and it’s number 11, 16, and 16 in categories. (My lowest rank was 454). I usually stay in the top 15 or so in Romantic Suspense. I can’t post my sales from Amazon because of a change in terms which was discussed on Zoe Winters’ blog. So I’ll do like she did and say that I’ve sold almost 1,000 books, but I can’t say what the sources are. June has been by far the best month. I’ve sold 5 times more books in June than in May.

I’ve got to work to be more visible on the internet. For instance, I need to figure out how to draw people to this blog. One of the reasons I don’t post much is because only a couple of people bother to even read it. I need to be more aggressive. I just haven’t figured out how yet. I’ll get there.

Smashwords

I just put my novella, Club Blood, on Smashwords. Their formatting requirements are a little more stringent than Amazon Kindle’s, but that’s because they offer the books in several different formats. And it has to look good on all of them! The great thing about Smashwords? You get 85% of your sales. Amazon only gives you 35%. So it was kind of a “duh” moment for me when I realized I should have my book on Smashwords, too. I probably won’t get the volume of sales I’m getting on Amazon, but I’ll be getting a bigger percentage of them. The good thing is I don’t have to choose between them. I can publish on both. See the beauty of self-publishing? No one can tell you that you can’t put your book in two different places! Or three…or four….
