I’m a little over halfway through edits on Soul of a Vampire. Then it will be on to the beta readers/editors. It’s funny how when you write a book, you do it a little at a time, then when you start the read through for editing, you find little plot holes and things you didn’t mention that you should have. I realized I didn’t mention the last names of two of my characters, and didn’t mention the name or much about the town in which the story is set. LOL.
It feels like fall is in the air today. After such a HOT summer, the high today is only 78 degrees. It’s not supposed to get higher than mid-80’s for the next week. Yay! No 90 degree weather…at least for awhile. 🙂
I need to get back to cooking! Since we got back from Gatlinburg, I haven’t cooked anything. 😦
How are you guys doing?
Yay, can’t wait until you get finished with the edits so I can read it all! 😉
Isn’t the weather just wonderful today? I love it!
Speaking of food we need to decide what to take for our “retreat” this weekend. 😉
I’ll be glad to finish edits, too. It’s my least favorite part of writing. LOL
Yep, we do need to decide. Finger foods? Real food? We’ll have to talk about it.
Lauralynn, I know that you are looking forward to being done with the edits. I don’t know many writers who enjoy edits (or any, to be honest!)
The weather in upstate New York is definitely autumnal. We had bad weather yesterday–two tornadoes touched down in New York City! Here it blew hard and rained sideways for a long time; there was a tree down in our neighborhood, I do love the clean crisp air of autumn mornings, even if I have to throw an afghan across my lap to sit on the front porch.
Enjoy your week, Lauralynn!
i honestly don’t mind proofing. But editing? Where you have to figure out the stuff you might have done wrong? Bleh.
Wow, I thought WE were the ones that always had tornadoes! Last year, we had five in one day, and nine people were killed. I’m glad that season is almost over for us.
I used to be a total summer person. But as I get older, the more moderate weather of spring and fall suits me more. LOL
The weather is absolutely wonderful in Ohio today! Hard to stay in and work on writing stuff. Your revisions sound a lot like mine, but hey, that’s what revisions are for! Good luck with them and have a great week!
It was such a beautiful day! I love weather when it’s in the mid to high seventies.
We have to have revisions. I think the reason I dislike them is that I get anxious to publish, and I don’t want to wait. LOL
Have you ever noticed plot hole is one letter away from being pot hole? And isn’t that how they hit us when we’re reading? This sudden jarring that may have bent your tire rod (happened to me once, but the pot hole was 2 feet deep…).
What I am trying to say is: You have my best wishes and hope that your plot holes are only annoying bounces.
As for how I’m doing… I’m still drinking my caffeine. So i’m worried I made no sense what so ever.
Gloria, I never thought of it that way…pot hole. LOL Luckily, I haven’t found too many problem so far. Just some things that need to be added to make things clearer.
Of course you made sense. But I’m still drinking coffee, too, so….
Good luck with the beta readers and editors.
Thanks, Emma. It’s good to have people who will critique your work honestly. 🙂
Yay for being halfway through the edits, probably further now today! Keep at it.
Must say I’m jealous you’re sick of the hot weather, I honestly would love to swap places – this summer in the UK has been rubbish. 😉
No, still just halfway. I usually take Sundays off. 🙂
There were some days where we had temperatures of 105 F (Close to 41 C) and there was no rain for a LONG time. My poor rose bushes were in deep distress. Was your weather rainy and dreary this summer?
I bet it feels good. By now, you’re further along. 😀
It never fails to amaze me (in a bad way) how many plot holes end up in a book when I go through it again. If you want a beta reader, I’ll be happy to volunteer. I need a break from writing all the time and would enjoy one of your books.
I know! It’s like you find things that you never clarify. Or the timeline is wrong in places.
Seriously? You would beta read for me? That’s awesome. A writer can never have too many betas!
I’d love to! You have my email address, right? Whenever you’re ready, send it over with anything you want me to look for. 😀
Yep, I have your address. Thanks so much, Ruth! It’s great to have an established author like you to beta read! I should be finished with my initial edits soon, then it will be ready for other eyes. 🙂 By the way, I just finished Her Counterfeit Husband, and it is absolutely awesome!
I’m heading (slowly) toward the point of doing the first edit with my WIP soon, and my fear is that I’ll find the opposite of your problem. Instead of not detailing something, I’m afraid I’ll have detailed things, especially character physical traits, multiple times, with conflicting information!
This is something that I’m hoping that Scrivener will help me with. Since I didn’t get Scrivener until after I’d written 50,000 words on this work, though, I’m going to have to edit this one the hard way… lots and lots of fact-comparison.
By the time I’m done, I’ll be qualified to be a fact-checker for the politicians!
I never know if there’s too much detail or not enough. Especially when beta readers disagree. That’s when you have to use your best judgment. If you’re afraid of conflicting info, it might be a good idea to write down each instance of description of a certain person or place, and then compare each instance. One time I named two different characters the same name! And one time I wrote a book where a house was partially burned and repairable, then later in the book the house was burned to the ground. None of the beta readers caught it, but luckily I did. LOL.
Politicians rely on FACTS???
