I’m sick again. This is the second time this year. I wish all this stuff going around would stop! I hope it’s not the flu. Anyway, I’ve been fairly productive the last two days. I have a word quota of 12,500 per month, which is 150,000 for the year. I think that’s pretty reasonable for someone with a full time job. I’m behind for February, partly because I was working on proofreading a couple of things. But my daily quota is fairly low, so I think I can catch up. I was a little over my January quota, so I think I’m mostly on track for the year. Having that yearly word count goal will make me have to be working on something almost all the time. I need to do that to be productive. The more books I publish a year, the better off I am, financially. I SO want to write full time.

ROW80 Update 1/28/15

Well, look at me actually posting two check-ins in a row! Now I need to get back to blogging in between check-ins. πŸ™‚

It looks like I’m going to make my deadline with my other pen name project. Which I have to, really, since Ruth and I are using a publisher. I don’t remember what my goal was for getting my mystery finished. LOL. I guess I need to go back and look to see what it was.

And you?

My name is Lauralynn Elliott, and it’s been 11 days since my last check-in….

I can’t believe I’ve missed that many check-ins! Well, two, I guess. I’m feeling a little overwhelmed by all the stuff on my plate right now, and when that happens, the blog is the first thing to be neglected. I need to do better.

Things are actually going pretty well. I finished the novella I’m doing with the other pen name. I’m going to be in another anthology with that pen name, and I have a mystery started that I decided to do under that pen name. I haven’t started the next book under Lauralynn, but I think I know the story I’m going to do. I have two more ideas for Lauralynn, but I don’t know how much I’m going to get done this year. We’ll see. For an actual goal, I only have one Lauralynn book planned, but I’ve been more productive this year, so you just never know. πŸ™‚

I’m in New Orleans on a business trip this week. This picture is the view standing in the doorway of the French doors of my hotel room. Win! I wanted to go out there to write, but it’s SO cold.

I still got almost 2000 words in this morning, so I’m right on track to get my project for my other pen name done by or before my deadline. When that’s wrapped up, I’m going on to finish my mystery, which I’ve decided to publish under the new pen name, so I’ll have at least two books for that name. Then, I’m still planning on a Lauralynn book this year. I think all my projects are still on track.

I’m going on a ghost tour tonight after our welcome reception. I did that last year in San Antonio, so NOLA should be even better, given the history of Voodoo and such in this area. I need to bundle up, though. The temps will be in the 40’s by then.

Happy writing to everyone!

ROW80 Update 1/11/15

Most of you know I’ve been VERY sick. Bleh. I feel like I’m on the mend, but I’m still not well. This means I haven’t been super productive lately.

However…yesterday, I wrote over 2000 words. I was really into the story. I think part of it was because I was in the middle of an action scene, and I really like doing those. I used to be afraid of them, but one time a reader told me they thought I wrote good action scenes, so now I’m not afraid. Isn’t it funny how just a little bit of encouragement can help us so much?

I had an early birthday celebration with my family last night since I’m going to be out of town for my actual birthday next week. I also had to go get a gift for my daughter-in-law’s birthday, so yesterday was a busy day. I decided I would write first and then do everything else later. That really works for me. Write first.

ROW80 Update 1/7/15

I don’t know why I’m even posting this. I have nothing to update. I’ve been so sick, I haven’t done any writing since Saturday. This puts me behind on a project that has a definite deadline, so I’ll have to ramp things up when I’m feeling better. Today is usually a day I take off from writing, but in order to get caught up, I’ll probably write. I don’t plan on going to church tonight because I might still be contagious, and we have a lot of elderly people who do not need what I have. So I might write while hubby is at church.

Our temp is supposed to get down to 8 tonight with a wind chill of 1. I need to figure out where to put the dogs. *BRRR*

I wasn’t going to post today because I’m so sick I was afraid nothing would make sense. I haven’t been this sick in awhile. The only reason I’m pretty sure it isn’t the flu is that I haven’t had a fever at all. Just all the other symptoms.

Anyway, I’m a guest author at Facebook party at the moment, so I figure if I have to be on the computer anyway, I might as well pop over here and state goals. If there are typos in this post it’s because I’m pretty much brain dead right now.

Here’s my plan for 2015.

1) Finish and publish the novella written under my other pen name for the anthology I’m doing with another author. Goal to finish: January 31
2) Finish the mystery I’ve started and publish under that same pen name. Goal to finish: Mid to Late March
3) Write and publish at least one title under my Lauralynn name. I have three ideas and don’t yet know which one I’m going with. Goal: Sometime this year.

As far as the goals for THIS round, the first two goals would probably qualify since I want to have the mystery finished by March. I’ve found myself to be more productive lately, but the last three days has shot that down. There’s no telling what my story would look like if I tried to write it while I’m sick!

Anyway, I plan to make this first round the most productive in a long time. I’ve been with ROW80 from the very beginning, and I used to be very productive. I want to be that way again!

the christmas card
What a crazy month! I fell so far behind on Christmas shopping, but I think I have everything except for the money and gift cards I plan on giving. I keep thinking I’m probably forgetting somebody, though!

I bought the movie “The Christmas Card” this year. It’s my favorite holiday movie, and Hallmark decided to put it on their movie channel instead of their regular channel, so I couldn’t get it. Amazon had it for a great price. This movie (and other great Christmas movies) were written by my friend, Joany Kane. She’s such a great person! And she write amazing movies.

I’m still working on proofreading, so I haven’t touched my own WIP. I’m okay with that, though. I should be done fairly soon, then I can get back to it in the next round.

I’m still excited about my secret project I’m doing with another author. πŸ™‚

That’s all, folks!

I don’t have anything to report on my own work right now. I’m working on stuff for proofreading clients right now, and they have to come first. However, I’m very okay with this because I know I’ll get back to my WIP when I can. I actually worked pretty much an eight hour day yesterday, which shows I could actually do proofreading AND writing for a living if I quit my day job. I often wondered if I could actually put in that many hours if I was working on my own, but I’ve proven I definitely can. Of course, my boss need not worry, because it takes a long time to build up a client list, so it won’t be enough for a full time job for years, I imagine.

There’s another project in the works with another author that I’m pretty excited about. I think it’s a secret right now, but there will be more about that at a later date. It will probably be under a different pen name.

I’ve finally gotten some of my Christmas shopping done. It’s times like this when I really love Amazon. I also have ideas for a couple more people, but that will entail actually going to a store. I dread that with all my being. I went just to get some basket wrap and ribbon for fruit baskets we’re doing at church Friday after work. The traffic was HORRIBLE. The actual craft stores were almost empty, but GETTING THERE was awful.

On a really good note…books sales are up a bit. πŸ™‚ The UK doesn’t hate me anymore.

Fire Wizard Just a reminder about my recent release. *end of shameless plug*

I don’t know why I keep skipping out on my check-ins. Not to mention the fact that I’m not blogging at all aside from that. I think part of it is I used to have a better following and lots of comments, and now, not so much. So it makes me lose interest in doing it. See, I don’t blog just to get things out of my system. I blog to interact with other people. I’m not one to feel the need to keep a journal or write down my thoughts (unless it leads to fiction!). Yeah, I’m not the typical writer.

Anyway, I’ve been piddling around again, not getting much done. Using the excuse of being too busy. But I look back and see some things I could cut down on (but they’re FUN) so I can work more. I have two proofreading jobs right now, so I AM pretty busy. Anyway, I sat down last night and wrote almost 1000 words on my WIP. I’m trying to figure out how long the shero is going to hold out (she has reasons) before letting the hero back into her life. Plus, I need to get back to the murder mystery part of the story. It’s hard to balance the romance with the mystery. I’m also beginning to wonder if this is going to end up being a novella instead of a novel. I hope not. But I’m tired of trying to force a shorter work into a longer one. I generally write shorter stuff, and it’s mostly because that’s what I usually like to read. There are exceptions, of course. Anyway, I’m glad I started writing on my WIP again. I’m liking it again, so that helps.
