I don’t have anything to report on my own work right now. I’m working on stuff for proofreading clients right now, and they have to come first. However, I’m very okay with this because I know I’ll get back to my WIP when I can. I actually worked pretty much an eight hour day yesterday, which shows I could actually do proofreading AND writing for a living if I quit my day job. I often wondered if I could actually put in that many hours if I was working on my own, but I’ve proven I definitely can. Of course, my boss need not worry, because it takes a long time to build up a client list, so it won’t be enough for a full time job for years, I imagine.
There’s another project in the works with another author that I’m pretty excited about. I think it’s a secret right now, but there will be more about that at a later date. It will probably be under a different pen name.
I’ve finally gotten some of my Christmas shopping done. It’s times like this when I really love Amazon. I also have ideas for a couple more people, but that will entail actually going to a store. I dread that with all my being. I went just to get some basket wrap and ribbon for fruit baskets we’re doing at church Friday after work. The traffic was HORRIBLE. The actual craft stores were almost empty, but GETTING THERE was awful.
On a really good note…books sales are up a bit. 🙂 The UK doesn’t hate me anymore.
If you’re going to have a day job, might as well work for yourself, yes? I hope you’re getting paid well for the proofreading.
We stay away from the malls and the craziness of Christmas shopping. With me on a cane, malls are dangerous places. The Internet is a wonderful thing.
I feel I’m paid very well when a book is fairly easy to proofread. When the book needs a lot of corrections, I feel like I’m not charging enough. LOL. I doubt I’ll ever make enough money to replace my day job. I’m lucky that I don’t hate my day job because I know some people do. Right now, it’s a good supplement to my income, but it’s hard to take on too many proofing jobs because I don’t have enough time. Again…my day job. 🙂
The way people act sometimes, I wouldn’t want to be in those crowds with a cane. I love shopping online. I’m a little claustrophobic, so crowds bother me. And the traffic! I was scared Friday that someone was going to hit me. That’s how crazy it was.
I loved teaching but hated the politics and the never ending reports. Retiring has allowed me the freedom to write now but I still miss teaching. Here’s hoping you can have it all – money to pursue what you love.
One of the reasons I like working for a small, family-owned company is that I don’t have to worry much about politics. If I can’t quite my job and writing/proofread full time, at least I can do that when I retire someday. 🙂
It’s great that you’ve got enough proofreading clients to keep you busy. It probably takes a while to build up a client list, but hopefully some day you’ll have enough that you can write/proofread full time.
Best of luck and happy holidays!
Thanks, Denise, and happy holidays to you, too!
Hopefully, I can eventually build up that client list. At the same time, I can’t take on a lot of jobs at once because of my full-time job. So it’s kind of a vicious cycle. LOL.
You are an awesome editor. You’re worth every penny you charge and then some. No matter how much I go over my own work, you always find something I didn’t. I feel much better publishing a book after you look it over.
I hope next year is a better year for you in book sales. I’m glad the UK is picking up. 🙂
Thank you, Ruth. Your work is easy to proofread because I enjoy your stories so much.
I’m hoping sales pick up in January and February. December is usually the worst month ever, but it hasn’t been too bad this year. Nowhere near what I want it to be, but it’s not horrible.
