Ok, I’m a day late. And I also want to apologize for being such a bad sponsor these past couple of check ins. As most of you know, I was in Disney World, and I had no internet access without paying for it. Not only that, I didn’t get in the hotel room until late every night, and I crashed immediately each time. What little I did get to do was from my phone waiting on rides, etc. But using the internet on a phone is a big PAIN. I hate it! Hopefully, I’ll get a chance to check on a lot of you today or tonight.

Anyway, I’m back in the saddle. I’m still trying to catch up on my word count since I didn’t write for eight days while I was gone. And I didn’t write last night because my wrist was hurting from trying to open a jar of spaghetti sauce. That’s what I get for not making it from scratch! LOL. I emailed my WIP to myself last night so I can work on it at lunch today to make up for not writing last night.

How are the rest of you doing?

I took off from writing Wednesday and Thursday due to coming in late at night. I’m still 260 words ahead of goal.

Now, if you will all excuse me, I’m getting ready to leave for Disney World! Squeeeee!

We’re driving for about an hour and a half, stopping for church on the way, then off we go to the hotel, which will take several more hours! Then, tomorrow, we’ll be in the park until about 1:00 AM (extend hours that day). Whew!

I’m late checking in, but it’s because my internet wasn’t working last night. I realized once again how much we depend on internet these days. And I just didn’t feel like dealing with it on my cell phone. I answered comments over the weekend on my phone, but it’s a real pain to do it that way.

The Apple Festival wasn’t a huge success, but it wasn’t bad either. I don’t regret doing it. We sold several of the baskets my best friend had made, and I sold five eggshell ornaments. But I ended up buying some stuff at the festival, too. LOL

On the writing front…. I haven’t written a word since Thursday night. I spent Friday getting ready for the festival, and I spent Saturday and Sunday AT the festival. I came home exhausted. I was two days ahead on word count, and I skipped three days, so I guess I’m about a day behind. No biggie.

Also, I have Starfane all proofed and ready to upload to CreateSpace for the print version.

I’ll catch up this week!

At 10:40 PM Tuesday, August 9, I finished the second novella in the Libby Fox series. I finished almost 10,000 words ahead of where I was supposed to be at this point. I wrote 2800 words tonight, which is a first for me since starting ROW80. That may not be a lot of words for some of you, but it’s a lot for me. My hands hurt, my butt hurts from sitting…but my heart is light. 🙂

I agonized a little over the ending. It’s probably going to make a few readers mad, but it will also make them want to read the final novella if they want to finish the story. (I still think it could be read as a stand alone story.) And I did put at the end to watch for the next novella in December. Yeah, I know it’s not a good idea to mentioned a release date, but unless something really bad happens, I should be able to do it. I wasn’t sure whether or not to end it the way I did, but in the end, I had to do what felt right. I was in Libby’s head so deeply that I had to write what she wanted me to.

So now what do I do? Of course there will be editing, but I also should be able to work on my short story that I started. And I’m also getting Starfane ready for print. But top priority will be editing right now. Wow…I can’t believe I’m done.

Okay, so I’m doing two posts today. I never do that, but I HAD to show everyone my awesome new shoes. They might be a little over the top for some people but…. Anyway, check out my previous post if you want to see a picture.

Now, back to ROW80. I’m a little bit behind again (not too bad), but my friend wanted me to go shopping with her last night. Shopping? When was the last time I really did that? So I thought about how I had worked so hard on my books and how I deserved to use a little of that money on JUST ME. So I did. :0) Anyway, I’m moving along pretty well on the novella. Part of the beauty of being a pantser (shut up Kait and Susan, LOL) is that I was going along writing what came to me, and I suddenly thought of a perfect reason WHY what was happening was happening. I had no idea when I started writing. So sometimes I’m as surprised as the reader would be. And that’s really fun. :0)

It seems like this past week has been a combination of “I can’t wait to get this scene that’s in my head written in my book!” and “Do I really have to write today?” On one of the days with the former attitude, I wrote about 1200 words. On the latter…I have to push to get the 500, usually ending up with a little over 600 if I’m lucky. But, as of now, I think I’m a little over 2,000 words over my cumulative goal. I don’t have an exact figure because I’m at work right now, but I know I’m ahead enough to feel comfortable about it.

I think the challenge is going to be getting the scary scenes scary enough. If I can’t, this may end up being a paranormal romance or thriller rather than horror. And I can live with that.

Goals for ROW80

It’s with excitement and anticipation that I await January 3, the beginning of ROW80. NaNoWriMo was such a drain on my time and energy that I vowed to never do it again. But ROW80 is much more reasonable for those of us who have a life that we can’t take time off from. (I don’t think my boss would approve.)

I have two goals for ROW80. The first goal is to write at least 500 words a day on a new novel. That would put me at 40,000 words at the end of ROW80. But I will probably write more. It’s better to set a goal you know you can achieve and do better than to set a goal you’re not sure about and fail. And if I miss a day, I can write 1,000 words the next day and catch up easily.

The second goal is to have the novel I’ve already written, Haunted Lake, edited and published at the mid point of ROW80, which would be 40 days. That’s reasonable, I think.

I can’t wait to see what everyone is is shooting for!
