My tentative date for e-publishing Soul of a Vampire is Thursday, October 4. That’s one week from today. Notice I said “tentative”. It seems like something happens most of the time when an author sets a particular date for publishing. There are some issues pointed out by beta readers that I need to tend to. I have to decide which suggestions I want to take and which ones I disagree with. I usually agree with most of them. The funny thing is, my two main beta readers didn’t have issues with the same things. (This doesn’t count simple typos, which they both might have caught.) There was only one sentence in the entire manuscript that they BOTH thought should be changed…and they each changed them slightly differently. There was a phrase they thought should be put in a different part of the sentence, but they put them in different places! What I DO know is that both of their sentences sounded better than mine did. LOL The point I’m trying to make in such a long-winded way is how important it is to have more than one beta reader.
I’ll probably do a giveaway with free ebooks and swag not long after SoaV is published. It depends on when the “swag” is ready. LOL. ALSO…I’m planning a Halloween giveaway mid to late October featuring my book, The Gnome, and the grand prize is totally cute. At least I think so. π
That’s all for now. Most of you have been awfully silent the last few days. Where are my people? LOL
I’m one of those people who finds that everything goes wrong as soon as I announce a date. I’m being intentionally vague from now on. π
Beta readers are probably the most important part of the process for me. Mostly because of the embarrassing things they’ve caught… Lol.
I’m afraid to deal in swag. Looking forward to seeing your cute prize though!
And I’m not going to insinuate I’m your people, but I’ve been quiet because I’ve been working hard for a change. Taking a break to answer emails, so of course I’m commenting on a blog. π Working extra hard over the weekend, so I can enjoy the twins’ birthday next week without getting further behind on my new schedule thingy. I’m expecting an epic sugar hangover.
Glad to see the fur-babies weren’t held back by their surgery!
Of course you’re one of my “people”. Which really translates to “friend”. π
I’m sure a lot of people are working diligently to get the next book out…or the first book.
Happy birthday to your twins! How old are they? That sugar hangover sounds like it follows a lot of fun. LOL
The fur-babies are in “running” order. I mean that literally.
They will be four. Already(!) One of them found their presents this week. >( There are no hiding places in this family. Lol.
Pity we can’t bounce back as quickly!
We’re here, catching up with the change of weather and welcoming Autumn.
I must find a few beta readers for myself for my next book. Any ideas where to find them?
Wishing you all the best with your book release xx
I think people who were doing ROW80 don’t blog or comment as much between rounds. A lot of my commenters were from that.
The way I found betas was when a couple of authors asked me if I was interested in beta reading their books and offered to return the favor. If you ask someone for a beta read, they will probably expect you to beta read for them, although not always. I would be willing to help if it didn’t come at a time where I was really swamped. But I must warn you. I’m very forgiving. I usually catch typos or wrong word usage, but I’m really easy to please, so I don’t pick about things some people pick at. It’s a good thing to have a few different types of beta readers. I have two beta readers who are authors and two who are just readers. They all have different personalities, so I get several perspectives.
I must go and find a few betas. I’m finishing up a short story collection in the next couple of months. I wouldn’t mind doing a swap with someone. I prefer people to rip my work apart!! then I can improve it π
Like I said, I wouldn’t mind giving it a read, but if you want someone to rip it apart, I’m not your girl. LOL
Omygod I don’t know where I’ve been, where have I been? Holy cow I went missing, thanks for finding me. But in all seriousness, congrats on your upcoming tentative release date and may your sales be tremendous! Record breaking even.
And thanks for finding me, I really appreciate it π
There you are, Hubbard! Whew, I thought I had lost you there for awhile. Were you treating well by your kidnappers?
I don’t have any bruises, and I still look well fed, so all must have been well. On a side note, for some weird reason one of my first cognitive thoughts this morning was ‘I wonder if I look good on the back of a milk carton?’. I’m not saying this had anything to do with your post, I’m just saying…
And really I hope your new novel outsells the I-phone 5. I never even got the I-phone 1. Stupid I-phone
I have been around, but my wife gave birth 10 days ago so my time has been mostly spent with the family, and writing in my spare moments. Online time was reduced significantly. π
Oh my stars, congratulations! Is everything okay? Everyone doing well?
Yes thank you. All is going very well. It is baby number 4 for us. 3 boys and 1 girl. He (Damon) is awesome and until now a very easy going baby.
I’ve been lazy on getting to my emails. Sometimes I get overwhelmed and stay away from my inbox. LOL It’s not that I have a ton of them. It’s just I have a horrible time knowing what to say to people I rarely communicate with.
To show how little I know, what is swag? I’ve never heard that term before.
I’m so excited about Soul of a Vampire! If not, I’ll I’ll try to keep an eye out for your post on the links so I can pass it along on my blog. It’ll tie in with a new release from another author friend. You two happen to be publishing around the same time so it’s great timing. π
Swag involves things like bookmarks, posters, postcards…things that promote your books. Unless I’m totally wrong and just made that up. Hahahahahaha. A friend of mine ends up getting that kind of stuff from bunches of authors.
That’s so nice of you to pass along my release on your blog. You are such a giving person, Ruth.
Thanks for letting me know what swag is. π I never would have guessed it.
