There’s not much new to report. One beta reader is finished (and she loves my story!), and one is halfway finished. I haven’t worked on getting Vampires’ Curse ready for print since I was at the cabin. The frustration of the page numbers just overwhelmed me, so I’m still trying to decide whether or not to add the extra pages to make the chapters all start on the right side. Most people who commented on my blog post said they didn’t care where a chapter started.
All in all, I’m happy with where I am with my goals for this round. Except for exercise goals. Those are the ones that always suffer.
On an unrelated note, my cats are fine after their surgeries, just lying around a little more. Oz had this huge hernia removed, so he was a little worse than if he had just had the neutering. They both slept with me last night. π
Glad your beta loves your story. π Hang in there with the page numbers. You’ll get it all figured out.
Glad the kitties are doing well.
I’m glad, too. π I’ll try to work on those numbers.
They’re getting active again. I’m scared they’ll hurt themselves. Just paranoid me.
Poor Oz – I hope he’s feeling okay. I’ve been trying to comment on your last few posts, but my ‘net isn’t cooperating with me very often.
For the right side, just make sure they’re on odd page numbers. Shouldn’t take too much to adjust. I despise formatting for print though…
Both cats, after only two days, are running around like they’ve never had surgery. I don’t know how to calm them down.
I know to make the chapters on odd pages to get them on the right side. That’s not the problem. The problem is I can’t get the page numbers and headers to NOT be on the blank pages. I’ve done print formatting three times for me and another time for someone else, and I was always able to make it work. I don’t know why it’s not working this time. Bleh.
Oh, that. Yeah, I’ve had the same problem. Lol. Don’t get me started… it drives me absolutely insane. My OH knows to keep away from me when I get to that stage, put it that way. π
You need to make section breaks and uncheck the “link to previous” section box if you want to get rid of the page numbers and headers. It would be a pain in the butt because you need to make multiple sections so it would take time to do, but it’s actually pretty easy. I never do it because of the time involved. I think you said you were familiar with making section breaks when we talked about it in an email. Is that right?
It was such an awesome story! The cover goes perfectly with it, too. I’m really excited for it to come out so I can buy a copy. π
I did make section breaks. The blank pages were all in their own sections. I also thought I had unchecked “link to previous”, but I’ll go back and check. So, I know you uncheck “link to previous” on those first pages of sections, but should you leave it checked for the other pages?
Oops, I hit send too soon. I meant to say THANK YOU! π
I’m not sure what you mean by the other pages. Do you mean clicking uncheck for each new section you do? I would uncheck the “link to previous” for every section. When I start a new section where I want the left side blank and the chapter to start on the right page, I would uncheck “link to previous” for odd and even pages. Then I would insert the page number and start it at the page in the book. You might have to go to the next page in the book and add in a page number there, too. It’s been a while since I formatted page numbers into a book since I go with a template now, but that is the process I think I used. As for headers, I would use the title of the book on the odd page and my name for the even page. Does that make sense?
I actually used a template from my last book due to your suggestion. But, it had different pages where the chapters began, etc. So when I added the white pages, the headers and page numbers showed up. I really thought I had unchecked “link to previous”.
When I mentioned unchecking the other pages, I meant all the other pages BESIDES the first page in the section. But it makes sense to leave them checked so the page numbers would continue.
Okay. I tried it in one of my works in progress, and I can’t get the page number to cooperate with me. Even though I uncheck the “link to previous” option on the toolbar, I can’t delete the page number on the blank page without deleting page numbers on the pages before it. If I leave the “link to previous” checked, I end up with a page number and header on the blank page.
I don’t know what the answer is, but it’s probably something ridiculously simple.
