I don’t have a lot to report. I’m letting my WIP sit for a few days after finishing, and I plan on starting the editing process tomorrow. I usually don’t have a lot to edit because I do a lot of editing along the way. But when I do the final read through, I always find things to change or add. I rarely find anything I want to take out. Since I’ve been at this writing thing awhile, my first drafts are much cleaner.
On a weird note. You know how Amazon sends you those emails suggesting certain books to read based on other things you’ve bought from them? Amazon sent me an email today suggesting two of my own books to me! That’s never happened before, and I thought it was kind of funny. Hmmm, I wonder if that means they suggested those two books to other customers….
That’s funny! I guess they’ve just got you pegged as someone who likes your genre, so they were in the queue. I’m sure they’re also plugging your books to other people.
It was my two ghost books, A Rocky Path and Haunted Lake. I wonder which purchases they based it on? I’m always fascinated by Amazon because their whole system is so sophisticated. But they can’t tell when they’re marketing a writer’s own books to them, even though it’s the same account. LOL.
I had the same email this morning too with your books. 🙂
Hey that’s great! That means that other people are probably getting it. 🙂
That’s fantastic. I would print out that email and frame!
Well, I definitely saved that email. I’m curious to see if my book sales increased just a tad or not. Maybe not, but you never know.
I’m with you on the editing front. I usually edit along the way and when I do go through revisions/edits I usually add more than take out 🙂 And that is too funny about the recommendations…hopefully you’re not the only one who got that list!!
I usually read the previous chapter and do some proofing/editing before writing the next one. It makes final editing less overwhelming.
Well, Anya said in her comment that she got the email, so my fingers are crossed. 🙂
I received an email suggesting my own books to me, too! LOL. Hooray on finishing up your novel(ella)…which did it turn out to be?
I also do some editing as I go. I read the chapter I’ve finished before beginning the next, and often re-read the scene previous to the one I’m writing to ‘get-back-into-the-vibe’ of where I was going when I put the pencil down.
With this latest novel I also tried something new. I set it aside for a week before I read it again…and it helped me to ‘read’ it through fresh eyes. J.R. had commented once that she did this, and I liked the idea.
Hope you have a wonderful day, Lauralynn!
Well, as long as Amazon is suggesting our books to others. LOL
Soul of a Vampire ended up over 60K. 🙂
I do what you do, read that previous chapter and maybe the last scene. It gets me back into the mood, plus I can catch any typos. But that final read through is the only way you can tell if everything comes together. That’s where I find the inconsistencies. I usually wait a few days or maybe a week after finishing before starting the editing process. It makes it almost like I’m reading something someone else wrote, so it’s easier to find errors, I think. 🙂
