Weight loss can be so frustrating. I’m continuing to work out with weights four days a week. I added an extra five lbs. to some of the machines yesterday, so that was cool. I’ve been walking on the treadmill for 15 minutes in the mornings. I WAS walking about 45 minutes in the evenings, too, but my foot has been acting up again. It’s usually better in the mornings, but by the afternoon, it’s hurting too much to walk. This is a chronic problem and usually goes away on it’s own in about three days. I’m also eating less and TRYING to eat better, although eating better is a slow going thing. But I’m STILL not losing weight, even with all these changes I’m making. I sticking right at the 172 mark. The scale goes up and down all week, only to settle at 172 on Fridays. Maybe I’ve just hit a natural plateau since I lost so steadily for the first 21 lbs. I saw this happen a lot at Weight Watchers when I worked there. I’m not giving up. I know it has to come off eventually. If you expend more calories than you take it, you have to lose weight, right? I just need to make sure I’m eating ENOUGH. If you don’t eat enough calories, you body thinks you’re starving it and hangs on to fat. I’ve seen this happen, so I know it’s true.
Some pretty good news. Most of you know I was upset because hubby got disqualified from a great paying position in the company he works for due to some *#&$*&#$’s who have a beef with him. And then they put him on second shift on an entry level job with low pay. Well, apparently, human resources (I expect there was some help from the union) said they couldn’t do that. So, even though he couldn’t have the premium job back, they had to let him choose from three different jobs in the plant. Now here’s where I can show you what a decent human being my husband is. There was one day shift job he could have taken, but he would have bumped several people out of their jobs into other jobs, which would have made them unhappy. So my husband took a job where there was actually an opening. He’s going to be back on third shift (YAY!) and making about the same as he was before he got that better job. Thanks to all of you who sent good thoughts and prayers our way. 🙂
I actually wrote on my WIP last night…the first time in over a month.
That’s great! On all fronts. :HIGH FIVE:
Thanks, Kait. I feel pretty good about everything right now. 🙂
The weight plateau sounds about right, once you get past that it should start burning again and dropping if you just keep plugging.
Husband’s job, HURRAY am so glad that worked out in a manner that did not lose him either seniority or his actual job!
Happy Friday Lauralynn, you guys are headed for a less stressful weekend now.
Thanks, Jackie. I feel so much better today. And I AM going to plug away at that exercise and changing health habits. 🙂
Yay!! I’m so happy things worked out for your husband. What a good man. So happy for you!!
Sorry about the weight loss struggles but congrats on the 21 lbs lost! That’s really something to be proud of! I’m just starting to try and figure out what to do about my expanding waistline and want to make sure my efforts produce results… 🙂 Good luck to you!
Thanks, Shannon, I’m really glad he got back on third shift. It’s really disheartening that he didn’t get to keep that other job, but at least now, we aren’t any worse off than we were before he got it.
I hope I’ve just hit a plateau. I talked to someone else who was working out at the gym today and she said that happened to her, too, but she was now losing again. So there’s hope. 🙂
That’s great news. Hope you two will celebrate over the weekend.
Thanks, Emma! I think celebrating is a good idea!
That’s great news for your husband (and you) 🙂 Is there a four-letter word for plateau? When I find out who to complain to about that issue, I want to be sure to include it in my rant. LOL. The worst thing is when you’re being a total martyr and your DH can scarf down whatever he wants and not gain an ounce…Mother Nature Complaint Department, anyone?
Thanks, Michelle. If there isn’t a four letter word for it, there should be. My husband can eat pretty much what he wants, too. But he doesn’t, usually. He eats lots of fruit.
See, all’s well that ends well! Congrats
Yep! Thanks, Chris.
I’m glad to hear about your husband’s job! That’s great news. 😀
I didn’t know there was a plateau. I haven’t gained or lost any weight since February, though I haven’t been trying as hard as you so I can’t complain. I do think it’s interesting that when I hit 37, I zoomed up to this weight and stopped there with no changes in my diet. My mom was this weight and stayed this weight for the rest of her life, despite her dieting attempts. But then, she didn’t stick with a weight loss program either. I guess cut out snacks and sweets (and only eat once in a while), eat lots of veggies and fruits, eat sensible portions and try to avoid the greasy and breaded foods, and get exercise are really the best thing.
But I am wondering in your case, do you think you might be adding muscle and this is making you sit at the same weight?
I’m SO glad he won’t be on second shift. 🙂
Plateaus are pretty common when people are losing weight. It’s like the body wants to rest a bit. But they usually don’t last longer than a couple of weeks. I need to work on eating a little healthier with less fat.
I don’t think I’ve added enough muscle for it to make much difference yet. That takes a little while. But once I add muscle and lose fat, it will also make my body burn calories faster. The more muscle weight you have, the more calories it burns. So doing weight bearing exercises helps in all kinds of ways. It even adds bone density, which we lose as we get older.
