I don’t know what possesses a person to just drop off unwanted animals out in the country, hoping somebody will take care of the animal THEY weren’t willing to take care off. And, of course, I live in a rural area, so now I’ve acquired a new puppy. I guess we’re going to keep her because I don’t know what else to do. If we take her to a shelter, she could be euthanized. And our ARK (no kill shelter) is always full. And this puppy is so CUTE. My son has already named her Daisy Duke and calling her Daisy (sorry, Kait, I didn’t mean to have a dog with the same name as yours). When she first came a few days ago, she would bark at my dog, Chipper (who is 12 years old and doesn’t need that stress, LOL) like she was going to eat him up. I think they’ve finally made peace, though. A sad thing is that when this skittish little dog finally let me pet her, she lay on the deck with her front legs stretched out and her head tucked between them as if she were saying “ok, you can beat me now”. I almost cried. Was she mistreated before or was she just scared? I tried to get a picture of this cute little thing last night, but it was too dark. I’ll try to get something to post later. I have no idea how old she is, so I don’t how long it will be before we’ll have to have her spayed. My husband said she looks like she’s three or four months old. I’m thinking at LEAST that, maybe a little older. She has big paws, so she’s probably going to be big. She’s all one color, sort of a light brown. She has floppy ears. I have NO idea what kind she is. I’m already going to have to pay to have my male cat neutered in a few months, so adding cost for another animal isn’t making me happy. But what’s the alternative? I guess we have a new pet to add to our menagerie. So now we have two dogs and two cats. At least that pesky rooster that was coming to our house is gone. LOL
More animals! Oh no…bleh I’m over all of them at this point. If we never get another one at our house I’ll be happy. Or at least inside ones. Outside ones are ok. Just over having them in my house anymore.
Good luck with your new pets! 😉
Raising animals is almost like raising kids sometimes. When I let my kittens out of their playpen and into the house for some exercise, I have to watch them like a hawk. But I love all of them, even the new puppy. 🙂
Aw, well done for taking her in. Poor little thing. 😦
I couldn’t do anything else, Claire. My son is already crazy about her (this is a GROWN son, LOL) and my husband doesn’t seem to mind her being there. So I guess she’s a member of the family now.
Puppies are kind of irresistible. 🙂 And in a way it’s good that she turned up while your other new furbabies are still young. It’s funny because when we got our kitten, we ended up having to rescue a puppy, too.
I wonder what happened to your little one before you came across her.
Daisy is, in fact, one of the most popular names for female dogs 😀
And, my youngest son does have just a pinch of redneck in him (sorry, Daniel, if you’re reading this, LOL), hence the name Daisy Duke. 🙂 She’s so cute, I’ll have to post pictures soon.
I don’t understand people just dropping a young animal off to fend for itself. Crazy. Good on you for taking it in.
I don’t understand it either, Elliot. It’s cruel. Not everyone would take in an animal like that, so I wonder how many end up starving or getting killed.:(
You’re a good person, Lauralynn. This puppy is sure to bring you a lot of joy.
Awww thanks, Emma. She sure is a cutie.
Well you know what I think about dogs so you know what I’ll say. Good luck and enjoy your new addition. Mine certainly have filled my life the last year, good and bad, I am working now just to make sure I can keep them if I move so GOD works in mysterious ways. Maybe you need another one in your life right now; Plus your other do needs someone to even up the field with the cats!
I love both of your dogs, Jon! I know they’ve been good company for you since your sweet wife passed away.
I’m not sure what Chipper thinks. He’s really jealous of the cats because they get to come in the house. He is only allowed in the house at night in the winter when it’s cold. He stands at the french doors and watches them in the house, playing. Maybe now he’ll be happier that there’s another animal not allowed inside. I hope they become friends. It would be a lot easier on me. LOL
You’ve got a good heart. 😀 I think it’s wonderful you’re taking care of the puppy. I’ve seen the pictures since I’m going backwards to catch up on posts, and she’s adorable.
Thanks, Ruth. That’s sweet of you to say. I really didn’t want another animal to take care of since I got the kittens, but sometimes things just happen. I don’t know what to do about the barking, though. She’s a barker for sure. And I don’t believe in the shock collars. Maybe she’ll stop barking at the cats when she gets more used to them.
