I’m a little late with my check in today. I usually try to do it before church and then take care of my sponsor duties in the afternoon, but I just ran out of time this morning. I always make a good breakfast on Sunday mornings, and I got way behind. LOL
My goal is to write about an hour (or until my hands give out) five days a week. I was plagued by the dreaded headache on Friday, even going home from work early, and Saturday I still had the headache plus I had to help my mom with her computer that decided not to boot up properly. Grrrrr. Anyway, on the three days I did write, my word counts were good. Mon-1875, Tues-1281, Thurs-1532. I timed myself on Thursday to see how long it was actually taking me to write. I wrote during my lunch hour, and I had to eat, so I knew I wouldn’t have a whole hour to write. I always read the last chapter I wrote the time before first so I can get my head back into the story, and that took five minutes. So, basically, I wrote over 1500 words in about 40 minutes. I thought I could only write about a thousand words an hour, but it had seemed lately I had written more. Apparently, I’m getting faster. Who knows if that will continue, but I’ll take it for now. 🙂
I’m trying to get back into sewing. I was lucky to spend time with the lovely Susan Bischoff last Saturday, and she was able to help me pick out patterns and material. My plans were to write and sew (or at least cut out the pattern!) Saturday, but with my oldest son and his wife coming into town for lunch, then my mom’s computer problems, AND my headache I didn’t get to do either. I want this skirt and blouse, darn it! My biggest goal for this week is to BE MORE EFFICIENT AND GET STUFF DONE.
How is everyone else doing? Any snags last week?
1500 words in 40 minutes is really impressive. I love when inspiration hits and you can write really fast. You sound pretty efficient to me, Lauralynn.
I think you hit the nail on the head. We do write faster when inspiration hits and we really get into the story.
I’m really not that efficient. I spend too much time on games. I know we need some down time, but I need to learn to limit the amount of time I spend on things that aren’t productive. It’s just when I work all day, I’m tired when I come home, and it’s easier to play than to work. 🙂
I once got 2000 words in 60 minutes, but I never repeated that LOL When I’m well inspired, I can get 1200 words in 60 minutes. I think it’s depends if you know what’s coming, if you the scene you’re writing about or winging it …
BE MORE EFFICIENT AND GET STUFF DONE seems like a great plan … I’ll print that out and glue it above my screen lol
Have a great week 😉
The story was really flowing well, and there were a lot of feelings going on during the scene, so it was easy to write. I can’t always write that much, although I’ve been doing it more lately.
Maybe I need to print that out, too, so I can be reminded. LOL
WOW! Your fingers must fly over your keyboard :-). I don’t type anywhere near that fast, unless I drink LOTS of coffee. Good luck in your writing and your ROW goals from a fellow ROWer.
I DO drink lots of coffee. LOL. Actually, I never wrote that fast before. And it might slow down because I have some problems with my hands sometimes. But I’ll take it as long as it continues. 🙂
Thanks for the encouraging words, Amanda.
Efficient?? It seems the older I get – the less efficient I become. How’s that figure?? Shouldn’t I be getting BETTER at this rig-a-ma-role? (I blame it on having gone through two teenaged girls and currently enjoying one teen aged son – with two more boys – nine and almost eight – bringing up the rear. They make me tired, and their schedules/appointments/work schedules/shenannigans …well you have two grown sons, right?? You already know. Lol. )
Yeah, but I only had TWO. I think my inefficiency stems from wanting to do fun stuff and spending more time than I mean to. Maybe if I work FIRST then play afterwards….
Your word counts have been impressive lately. I’m looking forward to reading the book that has you going full steam ahead. 🙂
I hope the book ends up being what I want it to be. I never really know until it’s completely finished and I go back and read the whole thing in its entirety. We shall see. 🙂
Great writing speed! I think the most I’ve done in a full hour is around 2200 but the average is around 1800 so you are very much on that pace. Feels great when you look back at it and go “Wow, I can’t believe I just did that!”
Have a great week, Lauralynn 🙂
I’ve never written this fast before, Gene. I don’t know if I can keep it up, but I do know if I can write about an hour each time, I’ll have a decent word count.
Thanks, and I hope your week goes well, too!
There are a few things in this world that I dread and know for certainty that I’m not meant to do: anything related to sticking someone in the arm with a needle, anything related to cutting someone’s hair for a living, and sewing. I’m a perfectionist and the idea that I might mess something up so spectacularly makes me cringe. I honestly admire you for your skills. And fun that you get to meet up with fellow writers. I wish there was a writer up here that I could pal around with. 🙂
I will totally agree on the needles and the hair cutting. LOL. I used to be more of a perfectionist than I am now. The older I get, the more I realize that I’m NOT perfect and neither is anyone else. That attitude has helped in my job, otherwise, the guys here at work (especially my boss) would drive me crazy with their lack of organization. 🙂
It really is nice to be able to meet with fellow authors. I’ve gotten to pal around with Susan and Kait a few times (once with Andrew Mocete, too), and a couple of times with just Susan. The conversations are so different from the ones I have with other people in my life. Not that there’s anything wrong with those other conversations, it’s just nice to talk about “writerly” things sometimes.
