Not really much to say about this week. I haven’t touched my WIP since my check in on Wednesday. I’ve had so much going on this past week and still not feeling the best in the world. I’m going to go back to walking on the treadmill early in the mornings. The two weeks I made myself do that, I felt better than I had in a long time. When I’m lying in bed thinking about how much I want to just sleep another hour, I should remember how good I felt when I was exercising. It’s all about motivation. Besides, my husband said something to me that really hit home. My mother is overweight, diabetic, and has arthritis. We went to my daughter-in-law’s graduation, but my mom couldn’t go because it was in a place where there were lots of steps. I told my husband that my mom would never make it up the steps and he made some remark under his breath about how I would be in the same situation in a few years. I was stunned. I think he’s really worried about me getting into the shape my mom is in. So I’m determined not to. I CAN’T.
On a brighter note…I’m getting two kittens tomorrow! I’m so excited! I haven’t been able to have cats because I can’t leave them outside because of coyotes, and my husband won’t let me have them inside because of a bad experience with a cat we had with bladder problems. So my friend suggested a compromise. She had crate trained her cats before and they did really well. So I bought this huge cage that is big enough for the two cats to play in. It has three levels, two of which have little ledges for them to lie on. I’m going to keep the cage out on our deck and make a nice little roof on it for shelter from the elements. When I’m at work, they’ll stay in the cage, and when I’m at home, they can stay in the house with me. The reason I’m getting two is because I don’t want them to be lonely while I’m gone. I’m going to fix up this cage to be a nice little playhouse with toys and stuff. The cage also comes with a little soft bed to put on one of the ledges. This cage is big enough for 2-3 large cats, so two little kittens should have a ball in it. There’s no danger of coyotes coming up on our deck. (They couldn’t get through the cage anyway.) Our dog protects our deck fiercely, and he’s always there at night (and my cats might be able to stay inside with me overnight). So my kitties will be safe, sheltered, and showered with lots of toys. I can’t wait to get them!
Take good care of yourself, young lady. 🙂
I’m so jealous of your kittens. They’re going to be all over you when you’re trying to write. LOL. When we got our old cat as a kitten, we had just gotten a pup that week, too, and it was so much fun watching them play together, so two kittens is bound to be entertaining.
I plan on doing a better job of taking care of myself.
I’ve been craving the company of felines for a long time. I’m also happy that I’m saving them from the pound. I don’t know what their fate would have been.
Pounds make me sad. I always thought I was a dog person until I got a cat. He would sleep on my shoulder and stuff. Hard not to fall completely in love. Best of luck with your furry babies. 🙂
Well I can’t find the link this morning, but there’s a quote I have for my workout inspiration stuff: You never regret a workout. That’s what I have to keep reminding myself when I’d rather fall back asleep on the sofa. I spend a lot of time on Pinterest in the fitness section looking at inspirational stuff 😀 It helps.
I’ll have to check out pinterest. All I’ve ever looked for on there was recipes. Lol
I have two stray cats, Fox and Puss. They just appeared in my back garden one day some years back and they’ve never left 🙂 Enjoy the kittens. Mine were fully grown cats when they came so I missed out on seeing them as babies.
I love cats so much and have been sad that I’ve never been able to reach a compromise with hubby. I have to put the cage together this afternoon. It’s so big! Lol
I think it’s great that you care about your health. We all get stuck in a rut when it comes to diet and exercise and you’re doing something about it!
Can’t wait to see pics of the new kittens!!
PS: I just noticed your new release and I can’t wait to read The Gnome!!
I don’t want to end up like my mother and grandmother. I HAVE to do something.
I’ll be sure to take kitty pictures. 🙂
Thanks for wanting to give The Gnome a read. I was worried about writing out of my genre, but I’ve had good feedback. You’ll have to let me know what you think.
Hi Lauralynn! You’re going to have so much fun with your little kitties! That’s great.
You can totally do it on the exercise front. I need a kick in the pants on the motivation front, too. Let’s rock it, lady!
I know I’m going to love having cats again. And, yes, we need to rock the exercise!
Good job on choosing to walk. Aww. Congrats on the kittens too.
Thanks, Ryan. I wish I had never stopped walking in the mornings. Maybe the happiness over the kittens will energize me. 🙂
Congrats on the cats. (I like cats. However, my lungs do not.)
All the best as you get back to walking on the treadmill. This is my week to get back at regular exercise too. Know I’ll be cheering you on.
Hope you have a great week and get feeling better.
Thanks, Steph. Sorry you have cat allergies. 😦 Hopefully we’ll both get back on track with exercise.
It always seems harder to get BACK into exercising than it is to actually exercise. At least that’s what I’m finding, LOL. Feel better soon and enjoy the kittens! Wishing you a fabulous week.
I think I agree…it’s harder to get back into it. But I’m going to!
Thanks, Raelyn. 🙂
It must be spring…with all the pets. My oldest daughter got a puppy earlier this week…a little 8 week old pit mix. He. Is. Adorable. Argh…I want to squeeze his little head off! I adore kittens…but am so allergic that I could never dare even touch one of them. Sigh.
As for the exercise….and the family history…I hear you. My mother and one brother are insulin dependant diabetics. Juvenile onset. Neither is overweight – although my mother does not eat healthy at all…she’s very tiny but eats fried, fried, fried foods. Sigh. (again.) Anyway…I became diabetic when I was pregnant – so I know all about sugar testing and insulin shots. No. Fun. It’s a huge motivating factor for me to eat right and exercise. I do not want to be stuck with that monkey around my neck. Right now, I have things under control.
Want to email and set up timed workouts together…we’ll do the super quick ones that are over in about 15 min?? We can skype or Ovu (spelling??) We should get J.R. to join us too…haha.
I love all animals, but cats are my favorites.
My family has a history of diabetes but it’s type two. So it could have been prevented. We definitely need to talk about this exercise thing. We need to think about the time difference, though. Lol
Awwww kittens! How fun that will be! 🙂 As for the exercise, you can do it!!!! And just remember that your fellow ROW-ers are here, cheering you on! If it helps, imagine all of us there, pushing and pulling you out of bed and onto that treadmill! What a sight that would be! *LOL!* Good luck this week!
I can’t wait to get my kitties!
Ok, Kat, you know I’ll have that mental picture with me every morning now. Lol
The biggest lure to exercise is how much better we feel. If we could all just remember that it’s worth it for that extra spring in our step, maybe it would be easier. I missed yoga class today (not my fault), and I know I’ll feel much better after I get a make up workout tomorrow. Have you seen the recent video on MSN (You Tube?) about the veteran who doctors said would never be able to walk again (at least without the assistance of a cane), but something like 10-20 years later, he proved them all wrong by committing to learning yoga. He lost a lot of weight and now walks and looks like a fitness champ! Exercise has amazing power. We know that, but how do we keep motivated on a daily basis?
I guess it boils down to making it a habit.
Congrats on your new family additions! Two kitties is a great idea. I can’t imagine how bored mine would be if they didn’t have each other as companions. It’s good that you are protecting them from coyotes. I think we lost one to a coyote or fox a few years ago, and a neighbor’s cat just went missing last week. Spring is when they’re feeding their pups. Shudder.
Since I adopted full grown cats, I haven’t been around kittens for a long time. They’re so much fun. Enjoy! Please post pics.
Michelle, I started back this morning and I do feel so much better. And when I get up early to exercise, I make it to work on time, too. Bonus! I haven’t seen that video you’re talking about. I need to check that out.
I put the new cage out on the deck last night. My husband made a nice little top for it that fits right on there to keep the weather away. This cage is big! I’m going during lunch to shop for little food and water bowls, litter and litter box, cat food, and little toys. Petco, here I come!
I have plenty of motivation to exercise… getting 2 hours child free to read a book! Okay, so I have to be on some sort of machine to do it, but still! I leave my kids in childcare and go get some reading done! My husband has never seen me so eager to exercise. lol
Kate, one of the things I like about the treadmill is it has a place where my Kindle fits perfectly. I would be so bored if I couldn’t read while I was walking. 🙂
Thanks for reminding me to get back on the treadmill – illness took me away from it for a time and its hard to regain lost motivation. Your cat play area sounds fantastic, you must share a pic or two with us in the future once you have it set up. By the way, big kudo’s to you for fighting for a healthy life. All the best to you in your endeavors, Lauralynn 🙂
Thanks, Gene! I didn’t want to get up this morning, but I knew it was for my health and I needed to. I just have to MAKE myself do it every day. Sometimes illnesses or injuries (sometimes I’ll hurt my foot and have no idea how) will throw us off, and then it’s hard to get back on track. But we have to.
I have the cage set up and took a picture, but I thought I would wait until this evening and take pictures with the cats in the cage. I’ll probably let them in the house for a little while, but I’ll close the doors to all the other rooms so they can’t hide. LOL
