It’s going to be short and sweet today. I published my novella, Search for the Vampires’ Curse, and my free (.99 on Amazon because you know why) short story, The Beast in the Mirror last week. For more details, check out my previous two posts. The strange thing is that I’ve actually sold 3 copies of The Beast in the Mirror on Amazon, even though it’s under 5,000 words (which is clearly stated) and it’s .99. It’s free on Smashwords and I’ve had 196 downloads. My whole reason for publishing this short story was to give something to my readers for free. I never dreamed anyone would really pay .99 for it on Amazon.
My next print project is going to be making one book out of my three novellas, Club Blood, See Me, and Guardian Vampire. This will be a little more challenging to format than just one novel for several reasons.
So much holiday craziness! I can barely concentrate on writerly things!
Congrats on publishing the novella!
I’m heading to smashwords right now to check it out π
Have a nice week!
Thanks, Juliana! π
Congrats, Lauralynn!
I am not brave enough to format my work on my own, so I’ll be using Create Space, with their formatting, print, cover, etc.
Thanks for stopping by my blog, and enjoy your success!
Thanks, Laurel!
I use CreateSpace, but I do my own formatting. They print it just like I send it to them. Do they actually have formatting services at CreateSpace? I actually love to format for print. I’m just a big geek. LOL
I wish I knew how, Lauralynn…I’m sure I could probably learn, but I’m pretty compulsive and would probably find whatever I did to be less than perfect!
Yes, Create Space has several packages, with the costs varying according to the services provided.
Congrats on Search for the Vampires’ Curse coming out as well as Beast in the Mirror. Good luck with formatting your bundle. I can’t say I enjoy formatting, but it’s not as horrible to do as I’d been hearing along the blogosphere.
Thanks, Sadie! Some people think formatting is horrible and some don’t mind. Everyone has their own talents. LOL The worst part of formatting for print is getting the page numbers right.
Congratulations! And ooh, hadn’t realised it was free. Off to read!
Thank you, Deniz! The Beast in the Mirror is free on Smashwords. I just wanted to give a gift to my readers. π It’s just a little short story that kept rolling around in my head. LOL
I am one of those who paid at amazon and I’m not sorry I did. It was a wonderful story. As a writer you need to charge for your books and I am happy to pay.
Thank you so much, Moremoonlight! It does my heart good to hear you say that! π
You’ve accomplished so much this round! Awesome feeling, yeah! I need to make it around and review your new books; it’s in the plan…the plan is just unfolding very slowly at the moment. π Have a very merry Christmas, Lauralynn!
Thanks, J.R.! I’m VERY behind on my reviews, too. π¦ The holidays only leave us so much time. I hope you have a merry Christmas, too!
Woot for you Lauralynn! That is awesome getting the story up. I’ll be sure to get a copy, I’m sure it will be a fun read. Have a great rest of the year and see you in 2012.
Thank you, Gene! π
Comment 2, yep. You asked if Scrivener would work for a pantser. Yes, I think it would. I started as a pantser and am a “plantser” (hybrid) now. The program lets you work in a blank profile (word format), keep your notes (if any & ones you add) in a side column and keep all your research at a single click away and displayable in a split screen. This would also be great for doing revisions and tracking information (like a character) because you can search everything and save it and compile it into a master mentions list called Scrivenings. Cool stuff for any type of writer. Hope that answers your question. Be well π
Gene, it sounds like Scrivener is a great program. I like the fact that you can keep notes and have things you need at your fingertips. The biggest concern I’ve had has been the format, and I think you cleared it up by letting me know it was Word format. Because Smashwords is very picky about formatting, and I didn’t want to use anything that might not translate well into their “meatgrinder” as they call it. Thanks for the info!
Congrats Lauralynn – such amazing success and huge accomplishments. Woot woot. And your upcoming project sounds like a challenge but one I imagine you’ll enjoy and embrace.
Thank you, Natalie! π
