I’m about to catch up, I think, from my six days off. I’m only a little over 600 words behind, which is better than the 2800 I was behind.
One thing I’ve realized while writing in first person for the very first time. It’s really hard to flesh out the other characters. You can only know them through their actions. It’s a challenge.
Yay for the catching up! You’ll be ahead again in no time before you know it.
I like reading first person for the very reason that you can be pulled in as your main character and have to figure things out as she does. More of a challenge for the reader to figure out the whole plot as well.
It’s definitely different than writing in third person, especially third person omniscient, where you can have several points of view. Most of my books have been third person limited, although the last couple were third person omniscient.
Congrats on making up the most of the word count in arrears. I don’t think I’ve written anything in first person yet, but I have considered it for my next project. I can see where there might be challenges with the character development–something I’m trying to learn more about. I’d be interested to know what challenges you find as you write.
Hi Michelle. As of yesterday, I’m actually about 600 words ahead of my goals. I wrote a whopping 2200 words yesterday. :0)
One of the biggest challenges of writing in first person is…forgetting you’re writing in first person. I keep having to take out “her” and put in “me”. LOL I’m definitely going to have to go over the manuscript with a fine toothed comb to make sure I caught all of these.
