I said in my last post I was finally finished with Fire Wizard. Now I’m in edits. It’s weird, but I’m loving this story. That never guarantees everyone else will, but I keep thinking, if I like it this much, if it entertains me even though I know what happens next, surely someone will like it. π It’s been a long time since I wrote the part I’m editing right now, so it’s almost like reading something new.
I hope I can get this published in about 3 weeks. It depends on my beta readers and also on my cover artist. Anya said this cover is kicking her butt. LOL. But that’s because she wants it to be GOOD. And when you’re dealing with FIRE….
Soon, I want to start on my mystery. I still can’t decide if I want to publish that one under another name. There are reasons I want to, but everyone already knows Lauralynn. I would have to sort of start over. I’m not sure that’s necessarily a bad thing since I’m not selling squat right now. I guess I’ll decide after publishing Fire Wizard and seeing how that goes.
I hope everyone is having a happy Sunday!
Isn’t it fun to go back and read your book when it’s been a while since you’ve written it? I’d say the fact that you’re enjoying it as much as you are is a sign that it’s a great story. π
I’m looking forward to reading it! Send it my way when you’re ready.
It’s a lot of fun to really enjoy what I’ve written.
I was hoping you would say that. π
Man, those moments of going back and rereading stuff you wrote a while ago and thinking, “This is really good!” are the best! Balances out nicely with the times we go back and edit what we wrote and thinking, “Holy crap, what was I thinking?”
Good luck with the edits! I hope they go well; I want to read it!
I really hope there aren’t too many “crap” moments. Lol
I rarely cut scenes. I write very sparsely, so I usually have to add instead of delete. I’m sort of dreading the edits but not the rereading. π
Congratulations!! I think that if you love it that’s all that matters – no one ever knows what other people will think (how many tentpole movies bomb only to have an obscure indie pop out of nowhere and everyone loves it?) so I think that writers (in fact, all creative people) should write what they love and the world will think what they think! Good luck!!
Claire, if we don’t love our work, then it will show. When an author stops loving what they’re writing, they need to write something else because readers can tell if you’ve starting just writing like a robot. π
I love it when I’m reading through one of my drafts and get sucked back in. Then, I have to remind myself I wrote it. π And fire…I’m almost guaranteed to like it. π
I know! I like the term “sucked back in” because that’s exactly what it is. This is a totally new twist on the paranormal for me, so I’m hoping it’s received well.
I think it’s great when, as writers, we love with our stories. I always hope that enthusiasm shows in the writing and that readers will enjoy reading a story just as much as we enjoyed writing it.
I’ll be interested to hear what you decide on writing a mystery under another name. Although if you stuck with Lauralynn, I don’t think writing a mystery under the same name would be a huge leap.
I was still loving it while editing last night. π
Here’s the reason for possibly writing under another name. I have friends at church who don’t believe one should even READ the paranormal stuff. They have no idea that I write it. I wanted something I could actually show them. My husband slipped and told our preacher once that I’m a published author, and he, in turn, said something to a group. So far, no one has asked me about what I write. I would like to just write under my own name or another pen name for those people. Plus, my mom is constantly telling people her daughter is an author (she’s so proud!), and she doesn’t like it when I tell her not to. It would just solve so many problems, and I could kind of “come out of the closet”. That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t write anything else under Lauralynn. Many authors have two pen names for different genres.
