I’m a really, really easy-going person. I rarely let things bother me, but there are some things that just push my buttons. Here’s one of them.
I get really ticked when I get email from somewhere saying I can enter to win something (These are emails I subscribe to. This particular one was a pizza place.), and when I read the email or click on a link, I find that I have to go to their FACEBOOK PAGE to enter the sweepstakes. Grrrr. I don’t like Facebook. There’s too much junk on there. If you’re going to offer to enter me into a sweepstakes, why can’t you let me do it from your website? I like websites. They are shiny and pretty. FB is not. People are depending more and more on social networking sites instead of dressing up their website and making it user friendly. I get the social network thing, I really do. But it’s so time consuming to have to go to all these different places. I’m so busy! Make it easy for me. Link to your site and give me an easy way to enter. Don’t make me go to FB, sign in, then have to go to a place where it makes me “allow access” (that always makes me nervous), and THEN I can enter.
I know many of you probably love FB and don’t understand my problem with it. (My mother loves to use it to keep up with family.) That’s okay, we can disagree. I like Twitter, and many of you probably don’t. I just think companies are depending on social networks too much, and I just want to go to their sites. I want things to be EASY and QUICK so I can get on with my writing.
Amen from a fellow facebook hater lol 😀 I like to check in on my friends, but I don’t want to see the rest of it!!
My mom was complaining because one of her FB friends posts every time she does something in a game. That’s the kind of thing that really turns me off. Plus, today I saw some really unlovely bickering between someone and her ex. I don’t need to see that stuff! Keep that kind of stuff private, for crying out loud. LOL
That annoys the hell out of me, too. Another thing that annoys me are the “join to look at our products” sites, like One King’s Lane and Fab.com. I should be able to browse without later being spammed. You want me to buy, let me see what ya got before I commit. grrrrr
Wow, I can’t believe you have to “join” just to be able to look at the products. I wonder how many sales they lose because people leave in disgust?
They lost mine!
I agree entirely — I hate using FB for nearly everything; I especially don’t like it when businesses/places/organisations post more info on their FB page than they do on their website!
I keep wondering if the trend will continue. At my job, I use the website and newsletters. Posting on FB doesn’t happen often. It’s just not a very professional venue.
I prefer things quick and easy too when I’m on the internet. I see a lot of blogs offering prizes or giveaways but they might say, first you must follow my blog, then you must fill out this rafflecopter form, then you must follow me on twitter and if you really really want to win, go over to facebook and like my page. Um, no. Don’t have the time and don’t want your prize that badly 🙂
I sort of understand why people make you do things on blogs…if you are getting something for free, the least we can do is give them some publicity. However, I really have to want the free book or other prize for me to go to the trouble most of the time. When I’ve had giveaways on my blog, the ONLY requirement has been to leave a comment. Period. I don’t want people to have to work that hard for something. What I really want is for them to read my free book and like it enough to buy another one. And maybe tell their friends. 🙂
I don’t mind leaving a comment. In fact I think that is polite on the part of the reader, but when you are asked to do 4 or 5 different things, I guess I am just too lazy 🙂
You’re not lazy. Just busy! Like I said, I have to REALLY want what’s being given away to do all that. 🙂
I try to minimize how much I do on FB. One could spend hours there looking at pictures (and the cat ones are the hardest to resist). As for the whole “you won something, now jump through hoops” thing, I think that’s tacky.
And FB isn’t very user friendly. There’s so much going on over there that a lot of it ends up being background noise. What I love about blogs and websites is that the noise dies down so I can relax and focus on content. I love going to blogs much more than FB.
I much prefer websites and blogs to FB. I think FB started out as a way to connect with friends and family, show pictures, etc. Then businesses jumped on the bandwagon, and that’s when all these contests ended up on FB instead of the company’s website. I just don’t have time to do it. I’m already on the company’s website. Why do they have to direct me to SOMEWHERE ELSE to enter the sweepstakes?
