I’ve always been a big Star Trek fan. So it was natural for me to queue up the series on Netflix. Yes, I love the cheesiness and the stilted dialogue by Captain Kirk. But I LOVE Spock. He’s always been my favorite.
I used to write fan fiction about the TV series “Emergency”. I had such a huge crush on Johnny Gage, played by Randolph Mantooth. I wrote fan fiction differently than most people. I wrote MYSELF into the story so Johnny Gage was my love interest. Hey, I was about 13 years old. 🙂 So I watched an episode yesterday.
I watched Practical Magic yesterday, I can’t believe I had never seen this movie! I actually thought it was going to be kind of a comedy, but it definitely was not. I really, really liked it.
Now I come to a show I used to love and, after watching a couple of episodes, still do…Kolchak: The Night Stalker. If anyone thinks the paranormal is something new, they haven’t watched this show from the 70’s. The first episode was about Jack the Ripper, who was still alive after all these years. The second episode was about a zombie whose grandmother brought him back to take revenge on anyone involved in his murder. Kolchak is a bumbling reporter who gets into all kinds of trouble, and no one believes him when he tells them what’s happening. I can’t wait to watch the rest of the episodes.
I know most of you are younger than me, but has anyone seen these old 70’s shows (60’s AND 70’s in the case of Star Trek)? Have any of you ever even heard of Kolchak: The Night Stalker?
I definitely watched Star Trek and Emergency! when I was a kid. I’ve heard of Kolchak but it was probably not something I could have watched when it was on.
Star Trek is one of my all time favorite shows. I like Next Generation, but there was nothing like the original to me. I think it was mostly because of Spock. LOL
Kolchak is a perfect example of how paranormal stories have been around forever. The show is about a lot of things people are writing about and making movies and TV shows about now.
Unfortunately, I can’t find Trauma Center on Netflix. Because in this show I had a huge crush on Lou Ferrigno. LOL
Of course you know I watched the original Star Trek on re-runs for the most part. Ha! I did watch Emergency too (can you believe it?). Can’t say I’ve heard of Kolchak, will have to check that out. I remember Trauma Center too! One of the shows from that era that I liked to watch was Starsky & Hutch. Remember that one? 😉
I have Practical Magic on my Netflix queue to watch but haven’t had a chance to watch it yet. Hmmm…maybe I can do that tonight since the wee one is gone to Dollywood! 😉
If you watched Emergency, it would have to be on reruns. Actually, you may have been able to watch it in later episodes. It started when you were two, but ran until you were nine. LOL
You will really like Practical Magic. Yep, tonight would be a good time to watch it! The story was nothing like what I was expecting for some reason.
Check out “Father Ted” an old English / Irish comedy. I would be interested to know what you think.
Father Ted? I haven’t heard of that one. I just looked it up…it looks hilarious!
I watched a lot of Star Trek as a kid. I don’t think I’ve heard of Kolchak: The Night Stalker. Practical Magic is one of my favorite movies! I have the book by Alice Hoffman.
Isn’t Practical Magic great? I can’t believe I never watched this movie until now!
Oooooh, shows from the 70’s: Welcome back Koter, the Muppet Show, and Charlie’s Angel’s, but Soap was my favourite, absolutely crazy fun, waaaaay ahead of it’s time. I really gotta get Netflix. Damn my laziness!
I always watched Welcome Back Kotter. And Charlie’s Angels. I wanted so much to look like Kate Jackson. And Soap…that’s some crazy stuff! Yeah, you need to get Netflix. I pay $8 a month. I don’t have the DVD option, which is more, just the instant watch option. I watch either through my Wii or my iPad.
I’ve seen all the old Star Trek episodes and am amazed at the great ideas those writers had. I wish that series could have continued. The trio Jim, Spock, and McCoy are unbeatable as a team. I haven’t seen the other shows you mentioned.
I love Netflix. I don’t even watch cable anymore. All I remember watching from the 70s were Welcome Back Kotter (which had one of the best theme songs I’ve ever heard), WKRP in Cincinnati, and Three’s Company. Most of the time, I watch the old black and white shows like I Love Lucy or recent detective shows like Monk and Psych.
I watch both Netflix and Satellite (no cable) shows. My husband refuses to watch Netflix for some reason, so I only watch it when he’s not around. Or, if he’s watching something I don’t care for, I plug in the earbuds and watch Neflix on my iPad. I watched all three of the shows you mentioned from the 70’s. I loved Welcome Back, Kotter.
