Monday, I sat down at the computer and wrote 710 words. But that was only in about 30 minutes, and I was supposed to sit at the computer for an hour. The thing is, I realized I had to get my Mary Kay order in by 9:00 that night, and it was after 8:30. Yikes! Then, when I got back to the computer, I decided to try to finish formatting a print book. I had allotted 30 minutes for that. It ended up taking me an hour and a half to finish because the page numbers kept changing on me. I won’t go into a long explanation about why, but I had to change a bunch of things, then go back through it and make sure, again, that the page numbers were correct. Grrr. I was going to walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes…wrong. In the middle of my walk, I had to stop and go to the bathroom.
Tuesday, I sat down to write. After 309 words, I had a stomach cramp so bad that I was doubled over in pain. I had to lie down. If you’re a guy, you might want to stop reading now. It felt like someone was twisting one of my ovaries. Needless to say, even after the pain had abated, I didn’t feel like doing anything, so I lay down on the couch and watched TV the rest of the night. I have NO idea where that pain came from! At my age, it shouldn’t be happening.
Yeah, I know. TMI.
BTW, I’ve learned to be careful what tags to use on my posts. If, for instance, I enter a tag about “stomach pain” or “exercise”, I get hits from those search terms. Sometimes, that’s not a good thing. LOL
I hope the pain subsides and disappears. That does not sound good. : (
But this does sound like a classic examples of One of Those Days, where, no matter how much you try, everything just gets distracted, or takes too long, or something else comes up to throw you off course a little. At least things always seem to get back again.
I’ve had problems with this WIP ever since I started it. I was used to churning out novellas and publishing them in every round. I tried to make The Gnome a novel, but it wanted to be a long novella. That started my sudden “slow writer” status. Now, this novel is going really slowly for various reasons. I used to have problems understanding why some writers took a whole year to write a novel. I used to write so fast! Now, it’s coming slowly, but I sure hope it doesn’t take a year! But it will probably take two rounds. I think my non-writing life is just getting busier. LOL
You’re talking to a writer who has been spending over half a decade on the same book. Sometimes, some things just need time to slowly cultivate. ; )
Half a decade!!! My, you’re a patient person.
I like to call it driven.
….or lazy. One of the two. Heh.
Even young women can get fibroids. Me, I get migraines instead.
As for slow writing — some stories just take more time to develop than others. And everything always takes longer than expected (as your formatting experience shows). Give yourself a break and credit yourself for time served.
LOL, I was referring to being too old, not too young. But thanks! I actually had an internal ultrasound a little over a year ago for something unrelated, and it showed everything was very healthy. 🙂 I can related to the migraines, too. I posted about that a few days ago. I had one that lasted two days. Is that a writer thing, I wonder? It seems a lot of writers have them.
I might have to accept the fact that this WIP is just going to be slower. Some of my stories have just come flowing out, but this one hasn’t.
Ouch! 😦 Even with that though, you knocked out some good word counts. That’s like 1000+ words for the week! And don’t fret, the words will come…sometimes it just takes longer than we expect. Wishing you good luck the rest of the week (and no more pain!)
Thanks, Kat. I’m hoping for better luck the rest of the week. 🙂
Why don’t I listen to people? If you say you might want to stop reading.. that normally makes me want to do the opposite. Yeah. That’s a big D’OH! But since I DID read it, I hope that cramp went away and that you’re feeling better.
LOL, Ryan. I DID warn you. I am feeling better today, thanks. 🙂
Sorry, Ryan…but I gotta laugh at you! Typical man….lol.
Hope you are feeling better, Lauralynn.:} Pain from an unidentified source is always a bit disconcerting. :{
Ha ha, Nadja. Ryan HAD to keep reading.
I do feel better. I hate pain almost as much as I hate to go to the doctor. LOL
I hate days like that. I think they’re inevitable sometimes.
Regarding the story that is slowly coming, I’ve been working on one like that since November (I think) and it’s only at 26,000 words. I keep getting emails asking when it’ll be out, and all I can say is, “When the characters finally get off their butts and direct the book.” It’s frustrating. I’m used to being done with a book in two months, but this one is like pulling teeth on some days. And yet, I think the plot is solid and characters are excellent. I guess some books are slower to write than others.
I’m glad you’re feeling better. Migranes are what gets me.
Some books are just stubborn like that. My character did something stupid in the last scene and I’m going to have to fix it. LOL.
I get migraines, too, but as I get older they are less frequent and less severe. So maybe when you’re older…. 😉
This is my life, only with different circumstances/issues. Except one: ovulation pains. One word: Mefenemic acid (OKAY thats 2 words- but without them I usually ended up in hospital on morphine for my pains. Why no one suggested this instead defies logic – but then thats the NHS!).
Anyway – good luck for next week – and hey, life gets in the way: Thats the beauty of ROW80 🙂
Hey, thanks for the tip, Shah! It seems like something always comes up to deter us from our writing. Hopefully, the rest of the week will be better.
I think you’re doing great with your writing. You have so much work out there so congrats and give yourself a pat on the back.
I have yet to produce a fully finished, ready to go novel. 😦 Someday.
Thanks, Emma! You’ll get there. I’ve been writing and publishing for about 4 1/2 years, So it takes time. 🙂
