I expected to have the first draft of my WIP finished last night. I really did. But life got in the way. I did more housework than usual because I’ve been feeling bad about not doing much. Especially since this was one of my goals. Then my husband wanted to watch some things we had on the DVR since it’s piling up. Also, my mom needed me to take her somewhere and bring her back because she doesn’t see well enough to drive at night in unfamiliar places. Oh, and then my husband announced that he had rented a movie we needed to watch last night. Scorpion King 3. It wasn’t worth it. So I didn’t get that first draft finished. It’s almost there. It has turned out a little differently than I originally intended. It was going to be more of a slasher horror story with an element of supernatural. It’s ending up being a supernatural story with an element of slasher. If that makes sense. I’m pretty sure it still needs to be labeled as horror, though. Maybe supernatural horror as a sub-genre. I’ll talk that over with the beta readers.
Right now it’s 20 degrees here with a wind chill factor of 13. I knew that warm spell we had was a harbinger of colder things to come! Brrrr. It’s going to be cold going to church this morning.
Brrrrr indeed!
And I know it is when hubby wants more attention. Mine comes up with movies all the time to take me out of writing and spend more time with him lol Even though the movies are not always of my taste, I end up enjoying his company π
And soon enough you’ll finish your WIP.
Have a great week!
Yes, sometimes hubby wants me to spend time with him. And although my WIP is important, my man is so much more important. The writing will be there.
Sounds like my life last week! Spent it cleaning because I’d kinda left the house neglected, as well as the hubby π Yesterday there was nothing on tv worth watching (which is rare for us), so I wrote all day and the hubby actually read…he NEVER reads! So we had us some quite time in the living room…me writing, him reading.
It got really cold over here in my neck of the woods too. After this warm winter, we are not used to it being in the 30’s (with wind)!
My husband does so much more of the housework than I do, and I start really feeling guilty about it sometimes. I’m glad you were able to get some writing down. My husband never reads, either, except for Entertainment Weekly. LOL. But he often plays cards with other people on the internet, so that’s a good time for me to write.
We had wind bad enough yesterday that there was a high wind advisory. Pair that with low temps and that’s COLD.
Pesky life getting in the way! I’d like to say that’s what happened to me last week, but the truth is that I was just being lazy. I wonder if you’re in the Northeast US? Your weather sounds exactly like mine right now (New York). The last few days were into the 40’s and then yesterday hit – cold, snow, wind, you name it. Feels like winter again. Darn. I was hoping spring was going to come early this year! I hope you’re able to finish your WIP today or tomorrow. Good luck with it!
Well, Karen, sometimes I’m just lazy with my writing, too. LOL. No, I’m actually in the Southeast US. We had some weather that actually crept into the low 60’s for a few days, so the cold weather was like a slap in the face.
I’m going to try to finish up the WIP tonight. We’ll see.
brr indeed are we all freezing:( time together sounds nice hubby mother kids or whoever – and WIP continues -just on a different time frame
all the best with coming week
As many times as you’ve commented, I don’t know HOW you got caught in my spam folder! So sorry. π¦
I was freezing…now it’s raining. Bleh.
I hope you have a great week, too!
Yep, hubby’s are like that and need attention. We’re on the west coast and having a warm winter at the moment.
Hi Robin. Those men do need that attention sometimes, and I’m glad to give it to him. Because he’s just a wonderful guy.
We are supposed to warm up again in a few days, but with rain. We either get cold and sunny or warm and rainy.
At least spending time with your hubby doesn’t require handing him tools and being greasy! HaHa. Mine had his truck break down last week so I had to go pick him up. Then of course he wants me to help fix it. Not so much that I know how to do it he justs likes me hanging out while he does it.
I was looking forward to getting the “rest of the story” (HA!) this weekend but I guess I can wait. I’m sure you’ll get it done soon.
Well, it wouldn’t be the first time you’ve helped him and got greasy. That’s what happens when you have a guy who “works on stuff”. LOL
If I happen to finish it tonight, you’ll get it. We’ll see what’s going on.
We must live on the same planetary temperature band because your weather descriptions are always happening right outside my window. Warm, cold, warm, snow, melt, cold…wish it would make up its mind (and stop on the warm button).
The spouses do need time on occasion and we should never feel guilty for giving it to them so long as it is returned with a promise to guard our writing time at a different point. I like the sound of supernatural slasher, have a suspense-filled feel to it. Perhaps a hint of Hitchcock.
Have a great week, Lauralynn π
Gene, this weather is killing me. I was all pumped to start riding my bike, and I was only able to ride two days, then it turned cold. I can’t ride it the cold. The wind hitting my face makes me miserable and can trigger a migraine. So it’s the treadmill for me until the weather gets better. π
Sometimes my husband still doesn’t get the writing thing, though he’s getting better. He knows we’ve been able to have a few things we couldn’t afford before because of my writing…but he also knows we’ll have to pay taxes on April 15 for the first time in our lives. LOL. But he does give me some writing space, so I give him attention when he needs it.
I hope the “supernatural slasher” works. My beta reader that sort of reads it as I write it is really liking it, so maybe it will be fine. It’s just a little out of my normal writing genre. But I think we need to stretch our muscles a little as writers and try some new things.
Lauralynn, I haven’t had weather like that since I lived in Missouri. Now that I’m in Southern California, our weather is set on a single channel most days. I could complain about missing seasons but I won’t because you’re looking at cold, schizophrenic weather.
Keep going (in your nice clean house!) – you’re so going to finish your WIP this week. π
I guess I would miss the seasons if I lived somewhere that didn’t really have any. I just wish that once it warmed up, it would stay that way! My car thermometer said it was 17 this morning.
I actually did finish up my WIP last night. It still needs a lot of work because I changed some things and I have to go back and make some changes in the earlier parts that will make the rest make sense. But the first draft is done!
Congrats on finishing the first draft! (I read through the comments!) I finished mine last week, and even knowing the amount of work this sucker needs during the revision stage, I’m excited! I hope you are too!
I hope you a revision-filled week this week!
Good luck!
Hi Heather! I’m always excited when I finished a WIP, even the first draft. Since I’ve been doing this for awhile, I usually have a pretty clean first draft (I kind of edit as I go), but this story is going to need more work than usual because it’s a new genre for me. I can’t wait to get this published.
Good luck with your revisions, too!
You must have sent the cleaning inspiration my way…I actually washed the windows today. Believe me, they needed it! It’s so sunny, the streaks and small hand-prints were showing too much! Ha! The sunshine is deceptive, though, as it’s freezing here, too! So…I’m cleaning away earlier, sweating hot – that’s when I realized that one of my darling children turned up the thermostat to 75 degrees!! I do not want to pay…I do not want to pay…haha.
Have a great day! I’m off to edit some more.
You cleaned windows? Then you’re still farther along in housework than I am! LOL. I”m looking out my window here at work and seeing the sunshine and trying to fool myself that it’s actually warm outside.
The thermostat at 75 degrees is too high when you’re working and definitely high on the heating bill!
Have fun editing. Me too!
