I don’t have much to report. I would have been caught up as of last night, but I got in so late from a Pampered Chef party, that I was too tired. And I had to finish watching Captain America so my husband could take it back to Blockbuster. So I’ll probably catch up in a couple of days. Not too bad considering how far behind I got on vacation. 🙂
Speaking of Captain America. Has anyone else seen the movie? Was anyone else disappointed? I’m beginning to think that I’m getting too used to special effects in these types of movies, because I miss them when they’re not there. And there aren’t too many of them in this movie. But the story line didn’t interest me that much either. I mean, it was ok, but it wasn’t that interesting. I couldn’t make myself care about it that much. (After all, I did fall asleep while I was watching it the first time.) So far, Iron Man has been my favorite among the graphic novel based movies. I’m really hoping The Avengers will be good. Anybody else got an opinion? Is it just me?
I really liked Captain America. I thought they did a nice job bringing that past to life. It was a good screenplay for those who were new to that story and a nice story in general with Steve Rogers being able to obtain an outer form that was equal to what was inside him, one which allowed him to explore his potential for courage and ass-kicking. I LOVED Hugo Weaving who was awesomely evil and his Red Skull look was great. And I liked their pick of actor for and the portrayal of Howard Stark. Maybe it wasn’t the most exciting of the series, but I really enjoyed it.
For a favorite, though, I think I might have to go with Thor. Blame these Scandinavian genes I’ve got, but I love me some Thor.
I WONDERED if that was Hugo Weaving! I couldn’t tell for sure, and I didn’t check the credits. I agree with you on the actor who portrayed Howard Stark, too. My biggest problem was that I found the movie kind of boring in places. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t hate the movie. But I guess I was just expecting more after seeing Iron Man and Thor. My husband watched it before I did and I kept saying, “I don’t get it. How can this be set in the 40’s and the other movies in more modern times?” I’m glad he didn’t tell me. I didn’t like the lack of HEA because of what happened. But I don’t know how else they could have done that considering how my question was answered. (I don’t want to come out and say what I’m talking about because I don’t want to spoil it in case some people haven’t watched it yet.)
Speaking of Thor. I have a hard time deciding how much I actually liked the movie because I was so enthralled by the gorgeousness that was Thor. I don’t see how any female could watch that movie without drooling. LOL.
Iron Man showed me a sexy side to Robert Downey, Jr. I had never thought of him that way, ever. But as Tony Stark…just, wow. I look forward to Avenger eye candy.
I liked Captain America. I didn’t grow up with it, or ever read the comics. They weren’t a big thing in the UK when I was young, so I do think I missed a bit of the fundamental knowledge of who he is, but I will admit it was not my favorite. I agree with you that Iron Man was the best one so far. Although I am a big Wolverine fan. (Beast too, but you don’t see much of him in the movies)
Thor I liked, but thought maybe it moved along a bit too quickly. It felt like a quick movies. One of those ones that could easily have been longer without feeling like it was.
I’ve never really read comics. But I knew a little about them because of the cartoons that came from the stories. But I’ve always liked the movies made from the comics. (Excuse me, graphic novels, LOL) I liked both versions of the Hulk, although I leaned toward the Eric Bana version. Ed Norton seems just a little too goofy to be Bruce Banner for some reason. I believe I might be in the minority on the Hulk thing, though. 🙂
Yeah, I thought Captain America was really uneven. The pacing was all off, and I didn’t connect with most of the characters.
And yeah, my wife watched about five minutes of Thor’s abs and said “oh, we should own this movie.”
Yeah, I had trouble connecting. That’s a good way to put it.
When Thor first put on those low riding jeans and had on no shirt, my husband covered up my eyes. LOL
I haven’t watched it yet because I’m not so familiar with Captain America, and the trailer didn’t grab me. Iron Man is my favourite by far, but I’ve always loved me some Robert Downey Jnr. Always. 😀
So looking forward to the Avengers though! I’m hoping they don’t screw it up and that it will be the best film yet. I’m thinking I’ll still love it even if it’s awful. 😉
Claire, I am SO looking forward to the Avengers. There was a preview of it at the end of Captain America. I would have missed it, because it was after the credits, but my husband told me to watch the end again. It was short, but it looked good. I liked it when Tony Stark patted Thor’s arm and said something that sounded like, “Nice swing”. Or something to that effect.
I’m telling you, I was shaking like an overexcited puppy by the end of the trailer. LOL. Can. Not. Wait. 😀
My daughter really liked “Captain America,” but we haven’t seen it yet. “Iron Man” was fun. I was as impressed by the second one, though – but that’s often the case with sequels.
Anyhoo, all the best as you continue to press on toward your goals.
Have a good one!
Stephanie I really liked both Iron Man movies, but I liked the first one better.
Thanks! I’m going to keep plugging along!
Hi Lauralynn,
I have to admit, I rarely watch anything on television – whether movie or otherwise, so I’ve not seen the Captain America movie. My husband and boys love that sort of thing, and I’ll be sure to hear their takes on it before long.
I did see the Iron Man movies…and I thought they were pretty good. I’m a fan of Robert Downey Jr…..I think that helps. ha! I’ve had a movie sitting here from Netflix for about three weeks…and I think my husband and boys may be about to mutiny if I don’t watch it so they can get something more to their liking…..lol
Best of luck catching up over the weekend.
I would watch a lot more movies and TV if I had time! It’s funny how we all have different tastes. Luckily, my husband and I like a lot of the same things.
