Hello, fellow ROW80ers! How is everyone doing?
As of last night, I was 5,332 words over my goal of 500 words per day. I should be at 10,000, but am at 15,332. I haven’t written yet today, since I always write in the evenings. I should get even more ahead because I have some ideas for the next scene that will be more than 500 words worth.
I’m a little concerned about in what direction this story is going. There was some violence in the last scene that I didn’t know was going to happen. Some of it was close to being a little “unusual”, and I don’t know where that came from. I haven’t written anything like that since I wrote Starfane. But the story will go where it goes. I usually let my characters do what they want to do. But it’s going way beyond a PG rating at this point, at least in my opinion.
Isn’t that scary when it happens. The story takes a direction didn’t intend to, but go with the flow and see what happens. Will be interesting to hear how it turns out. Happy writing!
My characters always seem to do what they want to. That’s why I’m not much of a plotter. I like to be surprised. :0)
This is getting interesting. Look forward to reading it.
By the way; thanks again for everything on The Last Cabbadneum; there is no feeling in the world like holding your words in a book and reading them, WOW. should have done this a long time ago, you are the best! Thank you!
You’ll have to read the first book in the series before reading this one. LOL
You’re welcome. When I first saw The Last Cabbandeum in print, I thought it looked so awesome!
Wow, congrats on exceeding your weekly word count goal. And don’t you just love it when characters decide that they’re going to take it upon themselves to change the course of the story? It’s one of the things that I love most about writing — the way that characters take on a life of their own.
Thanks, Jamila! Yes, that’s one of the things I love about writing, too. My characters always do unexpected things.
Look at you go! You’re going to have give yourself more of a challenge next round. Great job, Lauralynn.
Thanks, Andrew! Something about this story makes me want to write for longer periods of time. I just really get into it, I guess. 🙂
It’s so interesting to see where a story will take you. You’re making awesome progress!
Thanks, J.R.! I know what’s coming next, but my characters will probably add some things. LOL.
Yay for being ahead and being surprised! Glad things are moving along so well. Hope they decide to do even more unusual things this week!!
Thanks, Lauren! I like unusual, but I hope they don’t get TOO unusual. LOL
I absolute adore exceeding my goals! Hats off to you for that accomplishment!
Violence……I had to write violent scenes into my first novel, and I found them challenging. Finding the balance between bold, yet controlled, brutality and just going too far was a hair’s breadth apart. Did you find it that way? ~ Nadja
Thanks, Nadja! Exceeding my goals feels really good.
I hadn’t originally thought of taking the story the way it went. The violence started out toward my female main character, and that was tricky to write without making it sound…sort of icky. The violence after that was a fight between otherwordly creatures, and that part didn’t bother me. There’s definitely a fine line when you’re writing certain things.
Wow, this is really great. Someone was on fire! 😛
LOL, thanks Rockfreak. 🙂
Go you, exceeding your goals by so much! That must feel awesome. 🙂 Keep up the great work! It is always exciting to see where your characters take the story, isn’t it? I’ve been surprised a few times in my WIP as well.
Thanks, Diana! Yes, I love to let my characters take the lead. I’ve been glad to find out that many other authors feel the same way and have characters that do unexpected things.
Congratulations! I have rowdy characters, too–I love when they tell me what to do.
Violence is difficult; I wrote a memoir about some violence, and had a really, really hard time with it; it was helpful to get it out, but it is way too raw to put out there. I’m thinking of making it into fiction to get some distance. Even in fiction, it’s hard to write about, so good on you to be so courageous!
Thanks, Nancy. Violence is definitely hard. Especially when it makes you wonder if you have a sick mind. LOL
‘Tis great when they take hold and go for it – although occasionally like children they need a restraining hand and a reminder the public won’t sit and read a 1000 page novel these days!!!!!
I don’t think there’s any danger of me ever writing a 1000 page novel! I can barely get out 50,000 words sometimes. That’s why I write both novels and novellas. 🙂
You’re doing so well! Way to go!
Thank you, Kait. This round has been easier. But it’s not over yet!
