So far, so good. I don’t want to ramble on with a long post and bore everyone to death, so I’ll make it short and sweet today. I’m about 300 words over my cumultive goal, which is to average 500 words per day. So yay!
The challenge for any second book in a series is to give enough info to someone who hasn’t read the first one, but to not overwhelm someone who has read it with redundant info. I think that’s going to be the hardest thing, since this is my first series.
Glad things going good. But don’t you worry about the amount of information you give. Just concentrate on getting the story down and leave the rest for revision.
Hi Rockfreak! I’m really bad about revising as I go. Every time I sit down to write, I always read the previous chapter. That’s partly to get back into the flow, but also, I correct errors and such. I don’t know if I can ever change. LOL
Oh don’t let me start with that. I used to do that a lot and ended up revising and revising without moving on.
Thankfully, I have good memory so I try to read only the last paragraph now to connect with the story.
Congrats on being ahead of your goal! You should reward yourself with some ice cream or something.
Hi Lisy! Yes, ice cream sounds like an excellent reward. Something with swirls of fudge, caramel, and nuts. :0)
Happy to hear things are going well. And yum on the above post about ice cream with all the trimmings! It’s been a warm few days where I am, and I’ve started indulging in vanilla milkshakes with berries and a little amaretto thrown in. So tasty, and great way to end a hard day of work. π
Thanks, Jamila. And yum on the amaretto. I loved almond flavored things. Not a big fan of berries, though. I guess I would just have to use chocolate chips. Hahahahahaha.
Congrats! Sounds like you’re doing great π
Thanks Sandy! I’m working on it. π
Congrats on your progress, and on your very focused goal! That’s good advice about sequels.
Thank you, Vicki! This is my first attempt at a series, so we’ll see how well I do it. LOL. It’s also my first time writing in first person, so I went into a whole new realm in these books. π
Ugh, figuring out just what to use on a second book is really frustrating. And I’m constantly considering that when I’m reading subsequent books in a series, too, and just hope I’m more aware of it because I’m a writer myself, and that most readers won’t care, as long as the information is being presented in an interesting way.
But congrats on making more than your wordcount! It’s awesome to get a little extra done! Good luck!
Hi, L.S. I’m definitely finding the second book to be a challenge. The only reason I decided to do a series is because I had a couple of readers email me and ask me if there was going to be a sequel to Guardian Vampire. I felt like that book was too much of a stand alone, so I started a series because that seemed to be what people wanted. But the first book in the series isn’t selling that well, and Guardian Vampire is still outselling it. Sometimes I can’t figure readers out. *shrugs*
Yes, I’m very glad to have extra done. That way, if something happens that I can’t write on a certain day, I don’t get behind. π
Sounds like things are going well! I’ve never written a series; it sounds like an interesting challenge to weave in backstory from the first book.
Hi, Deniz. Things are going well so far. This series is definitely a challenge!
