I don’t have a lot to tell. I’m a little bit behind on word count due to getting in so late last night, but I’m not going to tell friends no when they want to go out to eat. I have a life. But I’ve got a scene in mind that’s good for at least 1,000 words, so that will catch me up, I think. Some days I get on a roll and write more than my goal of 500, so I don’t worry about getting behind a day or two from time to time. I always catch up and go over my goal. Until, of course, something really drastic happens. And I don’t want anymore “drastic” this year!
Happy writing, everyone!
AMEN TO NO MORE DRASTIC! You and I both need some time to CHILL!
That’s for sure, Kait. Maybe this will be a milder Round. Um, except for that house thing….
You have No idea how amazing that phrase is: “I always catch up and go over my goal”
Rock on, sister, Well. Done.
Thanks, Shari. I wrote over 1,000 words last night, so I’m almost caught up. :0)
I would have gone out too. 🙂
You’re pretty determined, one night off won’t do you a lick of harm. Hope you’re having a great week. 😀
Hi Claire. I really did have a good time and didn’t regret going out one bit. My husband’s working 72 hours a week, so I don’t see him much right now. So it was good to be with him and some friends.
So many hours. 😦 Make the most of it whenever you can. Plenty of time to catch up on the word count.
I understand where you are coming from and of course you have a life. I started this year with big word count goals and early into the year I suffered bad news. Three family members died, my brother was recently diagnosed with end stage small cell lung cancer and a dear lifelong friend died suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 45.
I cannot tell you how glad I am that I took the time to take a short trip with my friend before he suffered his ascending aorta disection. If I would have declined the offer from his wife and him so I could stay on track with my word count, then I would have tremendous guilt right now.
You said it best, ” you have a life.” It is important as writers that we are dedicated, but not to the complete exclusion of our time spent with friends and family. You will catch up and you now also have real life memories to add to your memory treasure bank. I have learned to never take life for granted.
Besides, as writers we are always working, even when not writing. That non keyboard time when we are thinking of ideas, studying the mannerisms of people we meet is time working. It is a a dynamic undercurrent to everything we do. Driving the car, walking the dog, spending time with friends, it’s all constructive “work time.”
Sorry so long, I just needed to share this.
Hi Melissa. As important as writing is to us, there are some things that are going to have to come first. When my mom had a heart attack during Round One, I didn’t finish. My mom was more important.
I’m sorry that you’ve had so many tragedies in such a short period of time. Sometimes life throws curve balls at us and we wonder why it has to happen like that. 😦
