Round One is over, and I didn’t get everything accomplished because of things going on in my life. But Round Two starts tomorrow and it’s a new challenge.
Goals:
1. Write an average of 500 words per day until my novella (part one of a series) is done. I’m expecting it to be somewhere around 25,000 to 30,000 words. So that will take 50 to 60 days. That will give me 20-30 days left to edit and get some people beta reading it. The editing goal will depend on how much time I have after writing the first draft, so that goal will be set later.
2. My secondary goal is to spend a little bit of time working on my garden gnome story from Round One. This isn’t a “have to” goal, just an aside if I have time. I can’t really give this one a measurable goal, so it’s kind of a maybe.
Good luck to everyone. Go writers!
Shoot me what you have I would love to read it. Look forward to the series. Not like I haven’t started one, or three, myself. I know yours will be very good.
What do you want to read? The garden gnome story?
Well, this is the first time I’ve ever tried a series, not to mention the first time I will ever have written in first person instead of third person. It will be interesting.
I admire your attempt at a series… The number of subplots and whatever that I feel makes a series possible just boggles my mind. I’m reading Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn series and am so boggled by the subplots he has in place. I just don’t know how to do it!
Looking forward to seeing your process.
It may turn out to be a major disaster. I fought against it for awhile because I get bored easily and was afraid I would tire of a series. But series seem to be so popular, especially vampire ones, so I thought I would give it a shot. The clincher was when a reader emailed me and asked if I was going to do a sequel to Guardian Vampire. I wrote back and told her no, but that I was going to do a vamp series and I would give her a coupon for a free copy on Smashwords. She was happy with that.
We’ll see how it goes. :0)
Good luck with your goals! I’m doing ROW80 for the first time this round and hope to finish my WIP.
Welcome to ROW80, Ghenet! I hope you enjoy it, and please know that there are a bunch of supportive authors doing this. We’re always glad to give a word of encouragement.
I nodded along as I read Belinda’s comment; the idea of a series scares me, but when they’re done well, they’re magical. 🙂 Best of luck with your goals for this round!!
Thanks Evylin! The idea scares me, too, but not so much that it keeps me from doing it. I wrote the first 1,000 words tonight and the voice felt right. Not only am I doing my first series, but it’s my first attempt at writing in first person. Yikes! :0)
Ooh you know I love a good series. I hope you enjoy writing this series because I’m really looking forward to it. Good luck and I’m cheering you on!
Thanks, Anya. You’re my biggest cheerleader. LOL
That “garden gnome” idea sounds intriguing. I usually don’t care for fantasy, but I love garden settings . . hmm I hope you find time for it, but if not, it will still be there after you successfully complete this round! 🙂
Well, CM, the garden gnome story isn’t exactly fantasy. It’s more like horror. Maybe light horror. LOL.
I’m going to work on the other series for now, but I’m still going to try to get some writing in on the gnome story from time to time.
And I AM going to be successful this round. If nothing TOO major happens….
Horror garden gnome? OK now I really want to read it. Let me know when you publish it and I will be one of the first in line. 🙂
Hee hee. I’ll be sure to do that!
