1. Ok, I might as well admit right now that I haven’t been writing. About 10-12 years ago, I had some pretty bad hand pain, mostly deep down in that fat area under my thumb. Maybe down in the thumb joint. I even went to an orthopedist who said there was some arthritis, but not enough to cause me that kind of pain. They couldn’t find anything else. I was given an excruciatingly painful cortisone shot that did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Gradually, through the years, the pain lessened to something very manageable. I almost didn’t notice it anymore. Then, in the past week, the pain suddenly flared up and I could barely use my right hand. It was scary, but it’s better now. Maybe I just injured it somehow and didn’t know it. That kept me from writing for several days, but I was feeling better and was going to write Saturday. I had all day to tinker with my story. However…we have a clothing giveaway at church once a month, and it wasn’t my group, but I ended up volunteering to help. Because NO ONE will do their job! There was only ONE person from the group that was supposed to do this…everyone else was volunteers. It’s true that 10% of the people do 90% of the work, especially in church. Oh, and then my husband says we’re going to leave right after this thing is over (at noon) and go to the movies. So my day is shot. I came home from the movies and went to sleep at about 4:00. Grrrrrr.
2. We went to see Battleship. I loved this movie! Lots of action, characters that grow, and moments that made me cry. And moments that made me want to pump my fist and say “Yes!” I feel stupid, though…I didn’t know that the movie was based on the game with the same name. LOL
3. My kittens are still as adorable as ever. Even if I do have to sweep up dirt from the potted plants. And we have one climbing plant that was wrapped around a broad stake that’s stuck in the dirt. Not anymore. The plant is no longer wrapped around the stake. The kittens tried to climb the stake. I need to buy them a climbing/scratching post.
4. Six days and counting until my vacation. I really want to get some major writing done during this vacation. The trick will be to get up before anyone else and write. That shouldn’t be to difficult. I’m the only early riser of the bunch. π
Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear about the hand pain! That is definitely the worst place to be injured for a writer. Good luck getting some work in over the next few days, but don’t push yourself too hard!
Hi Lena. My hand is much better, and I hope it was just a temporary flare up. One thing I don’t push…if my hands get too tired or start hurting, I will stop.
π¦ your poor hand… good thing you know when to call it quits before you do serious damage. I want to see Battleship! π
Take care of yourself, Lauralynn!
When my hand started hurting after all the other stupid problems I’ve had, I started wondering if it just wasn’t meant for me to write this book! LOL
Battleship was soooo good. I’ve had a great couple of movie watching weekends. I saw The Avengers last week. Life is good.
Awww take care of that hand! And have a great vacation–be sure to enjoy yourself and the time you will have to write! Have a great week!
Thanks, Kat!
Vacation? Did someone say vacation???? Ahhh. I have to wait until July. But I’ll spend a glorious week with my siblings and parents. I. Cannot. Wait. :} Since you’ll be gone long before me…ENJOY! A little R & R and you’ll be right as rain. (and a mite less irritated about people not doing their jobs…which I so relate to…it gets my hair up into a knotted tumbleweed!)
Sorry to hear about your hand. That would be scary, especially not knowing exactly what is causing it. You need Dragon…lol.
I am so ready for this vacation! I hate to complain about people but I do get tired of people not living up to their obligations. Then other people have to do their jobs plus their own jobs.
I thought my hands were ok. At least this flare up didn’t last long. They used to hurt constantly.
Unfortunately there isn’t a lot that can be done for arthritis. Analgesics for pain, ice for inflammation. Steroid injections only mask pain. Try a splint and Aleve and take a vacation, oh wait, you’re gonna be doing that. Enjoy!
LOL. I think the vacation will help more than anything. I use the computer all day at work, then come home and use it for writing, blogging, etc. So at least on vacation, I’ll only be using it for writing. Or maybe a game or two. π
You know regarding your hand pain issue (I had that injection in both shoulder joints – it hurts like hell and only worked in one for a few months.) Since then I wear a magnetic flow bracelet. Mainly because its pretty – but one broke and after two years of painlessness, within a few weeks the pain came back. I figure there might be something in this magnetic therapy theory? I have a new one now and my pain has gone? Coincidence?
Also, when it does flare up in your hand, consider using a digital voice recorder instead. Still getting your ideas down, just not in the usual ways. Perhaps take one on your vacation. I got one which doubles as a pen online for around $10. π
Have a great time. Hope you get a little rest squeezed in there too. X
I’ve heard a lot about the magnetic bracelets and know people that swear by them. If your pain started back up when you didn’t have your bracelet and abated when you got your new one, there must be something to that.
I mentioned to my husband that I might end up writing with voice recognition software before long. LOL.
Oh, I plan to rest a LOT on vacation. And eat lots of seafood! π
Early rising is indeed a great way to get in some quiet writing time. I’m usually up a couple of hours (at least) before the rest of the house and (looks around) its how I get my word count (shhh).
Hope your hand doesn’t give you any more bother. Wondering if having a voice system, like Dragon, would be an effective backup for times when your hand isn’t being agreeable?
Have a great week, Lauralynn π
You know, Nadja mention Dragon in her comment above, but I had no idea what it was. I mentioned to my husband I might need something like that. It’s definitely something to look into.
Hope your pain eases. I never made it to the cinema to see Battleship. Friends and family complained that it looked too noisy and stupid!
Thanks, Emma. It is definitely noisy. It’s a war movie, it has to be. Well, a war with aliens, actually. But I love noisy special effects. LOL
