Well, I only wrote two days this week (my goal is five days), but that’s better than not writing at all. Which is what I had been doing…or NOT doing. Tues-999, Sat-774.

I’m not sure I like the setting in my WIP, so I might change it. This is supposed to be a fairly spooky ghost story. Right now, I have it set in a little town on the beach in the pan handle of Florida. I love that beach, but it’s really not eerie enough. I feel like there should be waves crashing against the rocks, like in Maine or somewhere. Somewhere gloomier. I was trying to do something a little different, but I don’t know if it’s going to work.

What do you all think? Can there be a spooky story on the beaches of Florida. Or is it just too sunny and laid back for that?

Last night, I finally sat down in my new chair at my desk and wrote 999 words. That’s all. πŸ™‚

Well, there’s nothing really to report in the writing area. NOTHING. I’m beginning to think I need to work on something else instead of my current WIP. Most of you know this is the story my husband thought of. In order to go on, I think I’m going to have to ask him for some more input. I know the basics of what is going to happen, but I don’t know what to do in between the main points. I thought it would be easy to write this story, but it has been really, really hard.

I have two more ideas in my head, one for a book, and one for a short story. I thought maybe I should work on the short story for awhile and see if that sparks my writing interest again. And I might even have to put the current WIP on hold and write the book that’s in my head, which is a ghost/murder mystery. I’m not sure what to do, but what I’m trying to do right now just isn’t working.

Another thing I need to do is get my office in order. We moved our old computer desk (with computer) in there, and there’s still a Bowflex, a treadmill, and another thing my mother-in-law gave us (I have no idea what it’s called). I have to get this exercise equipment out of my office. Oh, and the cats’ litter box is in there, too, but there’s not much I can do about that. That’s the room they get locked up in when we aren’t at home. Which is much better than outside in their cage. I’m surprised hubby agreed to that. Well, he didn’t really agree. It just happened that way. πŸ™‚ Anyway, I think fixing my office up to look nicer would help make the atmosphere more conducive to writing. I wish I could rip out the carpet and put down some other kind of floor, but one thing at a time.

I hope everyone else is doing better than me!

I’m not sure why I’m even posting today. There’s really not much to tell. Between being sick and having company every evening, I just haven’t gotten anything done with my WIP. But I feel better now, and the company will be less frequent, so it’s time to get back to work tomorrow. And back to exercise if I can work out without coughing.

Btw, I lost another pound. πŸ™‚

I know I’m a day late, but I was traveling yesterday. My word counts were pretty good considering I’m trying to jump back into a project I haven’t worked on in a while. Monday, word count was 772. I’m not sure about Tuesday because my dropbox folder wouldn’t sync due to a connection at the hotel that wasn’t secure, and now my computer at home is turned off. But I know it was about 650. So I’m pleased.

I know this is supposed to be a post about ROW80, but I can’t resist posting something else. The picture below shows what happens when you leave your car at a friend’s house while you’re out of town. Beware of friends with strange intentions. This is just a small sample of all the eyeballs I found in my car.

The last round ended up during a time that was very difficult for me in many ways. I won’t go into all of that since most of you know what all happened. But it’s time to move on and get my writing mojo back. πŸ™‚

This round starts at kind of a hard time since I’m out of town on business for the next three days. But there’s absolutely no reason I can’t write at night after all the lectures and receptions and networking. I have nights to myself here in my room, so there’s no excuse not to write.

My main goal is to write one hour per day, five days a week. Some days that might be 250 words, some days it might be 1,000. I’ve worked better with time goals rather than word count goals, although I will be keeping up with word count on a spreadsheet. I would really like to finish my WIP during this round.

My secondary goal is to get Soul of a Vampire out in print. This should have been done already. I think I already have it formatted (it’s been so long, I forgot if it’s finished), and Anya already has my cover ready. So this goal should be easy to achieve. I don’t rush the print versions because they don’t sell nearly as well as the ebooks, but I do have one reader that always waits on the print version. I would put it out in print for that person alone.

My non-writing goal is to keep my blood sugar at the proper levels through diet and exercise. My MAJOR goal would be to no longer require insulin shots, but that might possibly be out of my control. My doctor says it doesn’t happen often, but it DOES happen. We shall see.

I wish all of you a GREAT Round One and hope you all meet your goals. πŸ™‚

A so-so week….

Writing: I only wrote 1748 words this past week. The only bright side to that is that it’s more than twice what I wrote the previous week. But I would really like to write a minimum of 2500, even though my goals are time goals, not word goals. But I do keep up with words. I just wish I could love this WIP. I’m working on that. There are many times I’l start a book, and I just can’t love it, but then after a few chapters, things start working. This one is just slower getting to that point.

Health: I’m on track with exercise. I walked on the treadmill at the gym four days. I ramped it up a little on Friday, going a little faster and a little longer. I’m having some trouble with feet, ankles, and knees, but I’m just working through the pain. If it gets bad, I might have to think about doing something different. It sucks getting older. 😦 I still need to work on my eating habits. I’m doing a little better. I had soup and salad for lunch today, and I didn’t eat it all. Of course, now I’m starving. LOL

And on a topic that has nothing to do with goals…but it’s my blog, so you can either read on or not. LOL I’ve been searching for an actor that I think would be a good fit for my character, John, in Haunted Lake. I’ve never been able to find just that right guy. But I’ve finally found him! Jay Ryan from Beauty and the Beast! Not only does he have the scar (on the show, not in real life), but he has the raspy voice my character has. John actually has more scars than Vincent from BatB, but he is a LOT like I pictured him in my story. I’m so glad to have finally found him! Here’s a link to his picture on IMDB. Jay Ryan as Vincent

I was tagged by Kait Nolan for this meme, and I thought it would be a lot of fun to do this one. I also feel like it might inspire me to work out the problems I’ve having with the story. So here’s the 10 questions I’m supposed to answer:

1. What is the working title of your book?

Well, I actually don’t have one yet. But I’ve been calling it Reaper or Soul Reaper.

2. Where did the idea come from?

Straight from my husband’s brain. He just started talking to me about a plot he had thought up, and I was amazed at how interesting it sounded. So I told him I would write it for him. πŸ™‚

3. What genre does your book fall under?

This is a tough one. I usually write paranormal romance, but the romance in this book isn’t the focus. It’s more a story of redemption. I guess it might be “supernatural” or “fantasy”. I hesitate to use “fantasy” because that term is usually used for books like Lord of the Rings and other epics. I think “supernatural” is the best fit.

4. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

This one is the toughest question. There are four major characters in this book. Two are supernatural and two are human. I’m just going to tell who I think would be great for the main character. That would be Jim Caviezel. πŸ™‚

5. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

A man (still don’t know main characters name) kills himself and someone else in an accident while driving drunk. When he goes to hell, he is given a choice…the lake of fire or a very special job for 1000 years. (Okay, that’s two sentences.)

6. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

Definitely self-published.

7. How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

I’m only a little over 4,000 words into the manuscript.

8. What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

I’ve read other stories about reapers, but nothing like this one. There may be some, but I haven’t read them.

9. Who or What inspired you to write this book?

My husband. His idea.

10. What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

There is a guardian angel who is there to thwart all his plans for reaping a soul.

I’m not going to tag anyone right now because I’m at work, and I’ve got a lot to do. I’ve been slacking today doing this kind of stuff. LOL

I sat down at my computer last night, in my office, determined to stay there an hour no matter what. Guess how many words I wrote? 361. That’s right, 361. I’m having so much trouble with this book. I know the major plot points. I know the ending. But I have no idea what to put in between there to get to those points. This is as close as I’ve ever come to writing with an outline. It should be easier. But I can’t figure out how to write the in between stuff without it being boring. You know, just a day in the life until THIS comes up. I wonder if this is because the story wasn’t my idea? I mean, it’s a GOOD story. A REALLY good story. So maybe I just need to sit down with hubby and see what else HE wants to happen. He pretty much gave me the outline, with some input from me. I don’t want to abandon this project. I want it to work.

On the bright side. The picture below shows one of the reasons I love living out in the country. I snapped this picture with my iPad as I drove down my driveway on the way to work this morning. Most of my property looks like this. Oh, and that truck is my son’s. It doesn’t run, and it’s going to be crushed by a dead tree soon if he doesn’t figure out how to move it.

Writing: I finally buckled down yesterday and wrote 1342 words on my WIP. That brings the total count to 2442. I’ve only written on this three days this month. I kept wondering why I’m so far behind since the round started the first of the month. Then I realized I finished edits on Soul of a Vampire, published the ebook, finished formatting on Vampires’ Curse for print, then formatted Soul of a Vampire for print. So I guess I was actually DOING SOMETHING this round. I have to get out of the mind set that ROW80 is JUST about actually writing a book. It’s about doing all the things related to writing. But now that everything else is done, I’m ready to write 5 days a week on my WIP. That’s going to be a real challenge this week since I have something going on every night except Friday.

Health: This went to the back burner last week. I had a lot going on, and the major issue was my cat, Willow. She was REALLY sick. The vet said she had a UTI, but it started with throwing up, which was weird. But she tested positive for the infection. Let me tell you guys, I was SCARED. She was lethargic, and she didn’t eat for days. I actually got so scared that she would get dehydrated and die that I force fed her a couple of tablespoons of water twice. She would go to her water bowl and dip her head down to it, but she wouldn’t drink! I had prepared myself for the worst, even though I was going to take her back to the vet if she didn’t start drinking water. After she was on antibiotics a couple of days, she started drinking water. Then she started eating. Then she started showing interest in stuff again. And today, I saw her playing with a toy. She’ll be back to normal when she’ll play with Oz again. He’s certainly tried to get her to play, but he’s just too rough, and she wasn’t feeling up to it. I bet by tomorrow, she’ll be holding her own against her brother. πŸ˜‰
