As of right now, I’m about a day behind in word count. But at one point I was almost three days behind, so not too bad. I can make up that extra 500-600 words in no time.

My problem right now is that I feel like my story is dragging a little. I don’t want to get into the action too quickly, but I’m afraid I’ve put in too much stuff that’s unnecessary. But at the same time, I’ve had complaints, especially in the novellas, that I didn’t put in enough about the characters or the places. There are some people who want more detail and some who want less. You can’t please everyone. So what do you do? I just don’t want the story to drag on and on until the scary part starts. One thing I need to go back and do is give a little back story on the male MC. I don’t think we know enough about him.

So, here’s some questions. Do you like to know a lot or just a little about the characters in a book? Do you care about the minor characters? How much do you want to know about them? And do you want to delve deeply into the psyche of the MC’s, or do you just want to get to the action?

As most of you know, I was out of town for three days and was out late every night. So I didn’t do any writing those three days. And I chose not to write on Friday because I was in the mood to play a computer game and knew I would be restless if I wrote instead of played. However, I’m only 388 words behind my culmulative goal, so I’m not worrying about it. I can make that up in a couple of days and I’ll be back on track. Have I mentioned that this is WAY better than doing NaNoWriMo? Sure I have. LOL

I’m a day late checking in. I was in meetings, then on airplanes. And I didn’t write a single word on my trip to New Orleans. I did okay when I was in North Carolina last week, but on this trip, they kept me out too late every night and I couldn’t hold my eyes open long enough to write. I had a little word cushion going, but now I’m behind on word count. But I know I can build that back up soon, so I’m not stressing about it at all.

I didn’t encounter any of the rumored ghosts while staying at Hotel Monteleone, but it was cool learning about the history. And I still think it’s funny that someone at our convention cancelled their reservation because he said he wouldn’t be able to sleep knowing that ghosts may be there.

And one last thing. I had the best seafood meal in, I believe, my entire life while I was there. If any of you ever get to New Orleans, try Deanie’s Seafood Restaurant. Totally awesome!

I don’t have a lot to report. I didn’t write anything Thursday because, well, I just didn’t want to. I went out of town on Friday, but I did get most of my words in Friday night in the hotel room. I didn’t get to write yesterday because I was working a booth for the company I work for in Hickory, NC all day, then we were on the road until 10:30. I was so sleepy, I couldn’t hold my eyes open. I expect to get my words in tonight. I’m still 1,071 words ahead, so I’m okay.

That’s all folks!

It seems like this past week has been a combination of “I can’t wait to get this scene that’s in my head written in my book!” and “Do I really have to write today?” On one of the days with the former attitude, I wrote about 1200 words. On the latter…I have to push to get the 500, usually ending up with a little over 600 if I’m lucky. But, as of now, I think I’m a little over 2,000 words over my cumulative goal. I don’t have an exact figure because I’m at work right now, but I know I’m ahead enough to feel comfortable about it.

I think the challenge is going to be getting the scary scenes scary enough. If I can’t, this may end up being a paranormal romance or thriller rather than horror. And I can live with that.

I’m not feeling very “wordy” today, so I’ll just be brief. I took off from writing on Thurs. (can’t even remember why, but there was something) and yesterday (because it was my birthday). But I’m still ahead on my cumultive word count by 708 words because I usually writing more than my goal of 500 per day. I don’t take any days off unless I’m ahead enough on my word count to make up for it.

I haven’t written anything today, but I had a brainstorm about a scene while I was getting ready for church this morning. So I expect to write more than 500 today.

Hope everyone else is doing well!

I’m finally getting around to posting my check in after battling a migraine, then working on an editing job I have right now. So I haven’t had time to write my 500 words yet tonight. But I’m going to.

As of yesterday, though, I’m 1,685 words over my culmultive goal. Hey, I can take three days off! LOL. But, of course, I won’t. It’s nice to have that cushion, though, in case something goes wrong. And I probably won’t write anything Saturday because it’s my birthday. 🙂 So, yeah, I’m on track.

I hope everyone else is doing great!

Today, I’m snowed in. The company I work for even closed because, in the south, eight inches of snow shuts everything down. I was planning on working from home, but apparently my work computer is turned off. Maybe a power outage. So I don’t get paid today. 😦 So I’ll try to be constructive in other ways. You know, like writing.

Guardian Vampire got a bad review on Amazon. It wasn’t just bad, it was a TERRIBLE review. Probably the worst I’ve ever had, even though I felt like Guardian Vampire was so much better than anything I had done in the past. I could tell that one of the things the reviewer didn’t like was that there wasn’t any sex in it. Because she said that nothing happened even though you kept thinking something was going to. This time, I didn’t get that sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. So I think I’ve finally learned to not let these reviews bother me.

I was thinking…one of the cool things about ROW80 is that it’s going to produce a bunch of good reading material for me when it’s all published. And that’s always a good thing! :0) Because I’m definitely going to check out the ROW80 authors’ books.

I’m still doing fine. My goal is 500 words per day, which for me isn’t necessarily that I have to write that many a day, but that I average that. I took a day off on Friday because I was 996 words ahead of goal, and I got in late that night. Then on Saturday I wrote 1187 words, so I’m back to 1183 words ahead of goal. I haven’t done my writing for today, but I see no problems with that. I think I know what’s going to happen next.

Oh how I wish I didn’t work a full time job!

Today is the first day of ROW80 and I’m really excited. I’m happy to be participating and also happy to help by being a sponsor. I hope I can encourage authors along the way. I have a lot to do tonight, including getting back on the workout schedule (boy, will I be sore tomorrow), but I plan on writing at least my 500 words, and hopefully more.

I was amazed at how my Barnes & Noble sales of Guardian Vampire were so much better than Amazon. Well, now that’s changed, and Amazon sales are better than B & N now. Amazon sales are definitely better for my other titles, but part of that is due to the fact that I can’t get B & N to take down the Smashwords versions, and though I’ve opted out of B & N on Smashwords now, they haven’t done anything about it either. Which divides my sales up on those titles depending on which one the customer happens to click on. And I don’t know how many I’ve sold of the Smashwords version until B & N sends those reports. Grrrrr. The real time reporting was one of the reasons I chose to go with PubIt! instead of staying with Smashwords. Plus, the titles are much more searchable now. Of course AFTER I decided to make the change, THEN Smashwords announces that B & N is paying 60% on the titles through Smashwords. Grrrrr again.

I hope everyone had a Happy New Year!
