I only managed to write 3 days this week. My goal is 5, so I’m not happy with myself. There was no excuse for not writing on Friday. It was pure laziness. It was me wanting to do other things. Bleh. Yesterday, I was having a pretty good writing day. I was in my office in my comfy chair. Then my son, his girlfriend, and her little girl came over and decided to stay in the room with me. My son’s girlfriend was very quiet, doing her own thing. But my son likes to talk. And he did. Here’s the thing, though. What my son has to say to me is SO much more important than what I’m writing. If you have kids, you understand. Although he’s grown, he’s precious to me, and if he wants to talk to me, then I’m going to let him. The book can wait. I still got almost 800 words in. So my total words for the week is 2417.
Weight loss and healthy habits are still going well. I try to keep that updated on “Fitness Friday” every week.
I have the print proof of Soul of a Vampire, but it looks like there are changes to be made to the spine. The title isn’t centered exactly right (CreateSpace fixed something and I think that’s why it happened), and the font is really too small to see well. Anya said she would fix it. I hate to pay for another proof, but in the long run, I think it’s better to get it right. I let my son and his girlfriend look at it yesterday. My son said he would definitely get it fixed. So I guess that’s what I’ll do. I’ll let Anya look at it tomorrow. This is the first time I’ve had to have a cover redone after seeing the proof. The measurements are SO precise when submitting a cover file.
SHAMELESS PROMOTION: Don’t forget…Soul of a Vampire, Vampires’ Curse, and The Gnome are all on sale for .99 through the month of February. These books are regularly $2.99.
It’s hard to write 5 days a week when you have a full time job. 3 decent writing days is more doable.
Hope the next proof you get back will be perfect. I’m going to be publishing with CreateSpace for the first time later this year. I’m already not looking forward to figuring out the formatting.
Hope you enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
I never really thought about the fact that some authors who are churning out over 1000 words a day might not be working a full time job. I mean, some might be, but many don’t work from what I hear. I guess it is harder to write a bunch of words after using my brain all day at work. Maybe I’m being too hard on myself. Shooting for five days is okay if I don’t freak out when I don’t make it.
I’ve used CreateSpace five times and this is the first problem. I hate paying for another proof but it will be worth it to get it right.
Hopefully, the next proof will be perfect. π CreateSpace changes things from time to time, which is frustrating. Just when you think you have it nailed, you have to adjust something.
I agree. Listening to your son is more important than writing. I hope that when my kids are grown up, they’ll want to come over and talk to me like your son talks to you.
I imagine since you’ve done the print thing more than me, you’ve had experience with problems. π
Family always comes first.
The day writing is more important than your family is a dire day indeed. well done on what you did write, bad luck on the cover but sometimes stuff happens- best get it right. Take care of yourself and best of luck this coming week:)
I agree. Always family first.
We’ll get that cover right! π
It’s never a wasted day when you get to spend it with your family. You never know when they might not be there. So enjoy your time. The writing will be there later.
Oh and I already have another version of the cover with a different font for when you decided if you were going to fix it or not. I’ll send it to you. π
Exactly!
I should have known you would be ahead of the game! :). I need to let you see the one they sent. I should go ahead and put it in my bag right now.
It’s better than 2 days writing, or not writing at all. So kudos to you, LL, and good luck getting your print version figured out. Gotta go Korbin has been trying to say something
True, it’s better than it could have been. Go talk to Korbin.
Well, if you were hoping for judgement with your confession, it’s not going to come from me! I think 3/5 days is awesome! Better than me, most weeks, too.
Laying aside your work is tough, but family is totally worth it! Good luck with the rest of the week!
I know we all write fewer words and on fewer days than we would like to sometimes. I need to chill about it.
My sons are definitely worth putting aside work.
Still 2.5k is a good week. Hope the next proof hit the spot π
Thanks, Pete!
Lauralynn, you wrote for three days, which is much better than none! Sometimes, you just need a lazy day. Also, as you said, it’s hard to write after a day job–I don’t see how some people put out the numbers they do.
My boys are asleep in the morning when i get up, so that is a good time for me to write, but when I come home from work, that is their time, beyond the fact that my brain is too fried for writing!
Good job on getting healthy. I had a few tests this past week that mean big changes for me, sigh.
Oh, and I own all your books, or I would run out and get them! π
Thanks for the encouragement, Elizabeth. I guess sometimes we need lazy days. I just feel guilty sometimes. π
I tell you, when you get those test results back, it can floor you. It wasn’t just diabetes for me. My triglycerides were terrible! So the changes were necessary.
You own all my books! That makes me feel so warm and fuzzy inside. π Thanks, Elizabeth!
Three days of writing is great. Time with family is important. I hope you have a good week. x
Thanks, Laura. Writing is important. Family is SUPER important. π
