After finishing my writing project early and getting it published, I’m finding myself being very lazy during the break before round four. I should at least be taking some notes for the third novella in the trilogy. There are things going on in my head about it, but nothing on computer or paper. And I need to at least work on my eggshell ornaments or my jewelry for my Etsy shop. Oh, and the Apple Festival is coming up! I need more eggshell ornaments for that! I just reminded myself! LOL
On another note which has absolutely nothing to do with writing…. Has anyone seen the SciFi comedy, “Paul”? I shouldn’t have liked the movie. It was all corny and cheesy. I groaned when my husband brought it home. But I liked it! It didn’t matter to me if the “characters weren’t fleshed out” or the “plot was unbelievable”. I’m not even sure that was the case in this movie, but I’m sure someone will say it was. I was ENTERTAINED. And that’s how I’m different from a lot of writers. I don’t pick a movie apart. I don’t look at every little thing with criticism. If I enjoy a movie and it’s entertaining, I don’t care if it’s not perfect. Watching movies for me is about fun, whether it’s a comedy or an action movie. Or it’s about being scared if it’s a thriller or horror. I just want to get away from real life for awhile.
Has anyone else ever liked a movie that they really shouldn’t have liked? LOL
You deserve a break!
I am renowned for loving “bad” films and programmes. 🙂 Sometimes pure fun is enough. I don’t love everything I watch (I could find enjoyment in anything as a kid) but I tend to not overthink what I watch, if that makes sense.
I haven’t seen Paul yet but I love Simon Pegg and Nick Frost – I even stalk ’em on twitter. Shaun of the Dead is one of my all-time favourite films. 🙂
I think I’ve been on break too long! LOL.
Are Simon Pegg and Nick Frost the actors that played the two main characters?
Yep! They’ve worked together on a few films. They crack me up.
I’m the same with movies, I don’t need them to be perfect. Actually, I’m the same with tv and books and music and plays and art too. 🙂 I really shouldn’t have liked all of the Fast and Furious movies or the Final Destination movies, but I do. Also, every incarnation of the Bring it On franchise. Some people might think I have bad taste, but I prefer to think of it as being easily entertained. Ha!
Get on those eggshell ornaments, girl, the Apple Festival is coming up! 🙂
Stacey, I’m like that with books, art, etc.. too. I’m very forgiving of cheesiness. LOL. I liked Fast and Furious (the first one was my favorite) and I like the Final Destination movies. I LOVE Bring It On, but was not aware there were sequels! Yes, I’m easily entertained.
Yep, I need to get on those ornaments and fast!
There is NOTHING wrong with the Fast and the Furious or Bring it On. >(
😀
Claire and I have smiliefied your comments area for you. 🙂 Hope you don’t mind.
You can smilefy my comments all you want. I like having a happy blog.
🙂
Hey, I’m coming down there is weekend to ‘motivate’ you. LOL Really need to get away from this insanity for a few days, relax, unwind, and get a fresh start at it. by-the-way; you know some of the crazy stuff I like so I dare not saying anything about your taste.
Really look forward to landing and getting myself back stable and writing again. Then I’ll keep you busy in the editing role you love so well.
Peace.
Hey, Jon. I’m glad you’re coming down. I know you need to get away from all the craziness that is your life right now. Hubby and I look forward to seeing you.
Me too! Me too! Glad you’re coming down!
🙂
That is all.
…
Kidding, the real comment is that, while I sometimes finding myself going: “Pschaw, There is no foundation for that plot element!” (Which, you know, comes out exactly like that.) I generally laugh and if someone asks would answer: “Sure, it was pretty good.” I can always find something to like, it seems.
And, for good measure:
🙂
Yeah, I can usually tell if a movie isn’t that great. But sometimes I like it anyway. 🙂
Keep on smiling! 🙂
I’m notorious for loving movies that could be deemed …’bad’…lol. I don’t care a whit! I’m with you; I want to be entertained. I rarely watch television or movies, so when I do, I want to laugh/be intrigued/solve a mystery…whatever I’m in the mood for.
I noticed that you just published, too! Congrats! I’ll look on your sidebar and add your book to my goodreads TBR list! I’m all about supporting fellow ROW80 writers, and I’m certainly an avid reader! It’s four or five now – fellow ROW80 participants whose books I’ve added now! We are achieving our goals..round by round. ~ Nadja
I’m glad to find I’m not the only one who likes bad movies. 🙂 I don’t care what anyone thinks, either.
I’ve met so many authors since doing ROW80. Some have published already. Some are still waiting to publish. We’re all in this together!
Weekend at Bernie’s has got to be one of the dumbest premises for a movie, but sooo funny. Always cracks me up.
I know, Andrew! Weekend at Bernie’s is hilarious!
I think you deserve to have a bit of a break, but I’m sure that your ideas are brewing about in the back of your head. I admit that I fall into the category of folks who sits and nitpicks at films (I’m a sociologist and a feminist scholar in my non-writing life, I can’t help it), but every so often, I want something silly and ridiculous. “Eurotrip” comes to mind as a movie that really, really shouldn’t be good, as does the typical summer action flick, like Thor. Sometimes all I want is to see things get blown up, haha.
There’s nothing wrong with nitpicking if that’s what you feel like you have to do. It just ruins things for me when I’m trying to be entertained. And you KNOW why I like Thor, right? LOL. And you’re right…sometimes we just want to see things get blown up in the most spectacular way.
I’m very easily entertained myself. Sometimes the cheesy is still funny. Just like I love Saturday the 14th (as opposed to Friday the 13th). Chris Sarandon in that film had got to be the silliest vampire I’ve seen!
And yes, you better have more eggs. You don’t have much longer. We’ve got to get all those baskets ready too. And work on your setup for the festival. Lots to do!
Stop making me work, Anya! LOL
You know, I think one of the cheesiest vampire movies you and I have seen is Dracula 2000. I crack up when I see all those Virgin Mobile ads all through the movie. But seeing Gerard Butler as a vampire is worth every minute.
I have a weak spot for Hocus Pocus with Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker. Silly witch comedy! I watch it every October. I recently saw a documentary on the British Comedian, Eddie Izzard. You can’t not like this guy. He’s hilarious and looks really good in high heels and lipstick.
Michelle, I LOVE Hocus Pocus. I watch it every October, too! LOL. And I also watch all the Halloweentown movies.
I’ve never heard of Eddie Izzard. I’ll have to check that out.
Hocus Pocus is the best part of Halloween! It’s kind of a running joke in my family now.
(Sorry for all the comments, Lauralynn.)
Claire, I NEVER mind comments. I think the more the merrier. I like interacting with people, and I don’t plan to become someone who doesn’t answer all my blog comments (well, unless the conversation is over or it could go on forever, LOL). Not answering blog comments is becoming popular among some bloggers and I don’t understand why. I know people are busy, but so am I. If I take the time to comment on a blog, I think it’s courteous to answer. I don’t know why this trend is happening, but I hope I don’t become part of it. So if I ever don’t respond to a comment on my blog, it’s because somehow I missed it. (Or I’m sick or something.) I guess I can understand someone like J.A. Konrath not answering, but that’s because he has so many comments he CAN’T answer them all. Most of us are not in that category…yet.
I didn’t mean to get started on that. LOL
I take it I hit a nerve there. 😉 Very few bloggers answer comments, so I tend not to check back anymore. That’s what’s great about wordpress though, it’s a lot easier to find replies. It’s still possible to miss replies (airheads like me *think* they reply to comments and emails and texts but forget to press send), but it makes it quick enough to check.
On my old, old, old blog, the comment section was the best part. There was a whole group of us who ended up having involved conversations in each other’s comment sections, and aside from being fun, we all ended up getting to know each other through other people’s blogs. If that even makes sense. To me, that’s what blogging is about, interacting and getting to know people. We didn’t all get along all the time, or even agree with other, but it was kind of cool to have little debates knowing it wouldn’t end in anything nasty. 😀 The bad thing was the massive amount of time I spent reading and replying to comments every day. 🙂
Since I got back into blogging and the whole online thing, I’ve found it a little cold out there. I don’t know if it’s specific to writers (or me) or what, but I’ve often found it to be a little cliquey and closed in or something. I might just be grumpy today though. Oh, wait, that’s every day. 😀
Congratulations on finishing early! Now you can take a well-deserved break. 🙂
I LOVE campy horror movies from the 1950s! I’m even a fan of the deliberately “bad” ones. I highly recommend the more recent movie “The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra” if you’re a fan of campy parodies. It’s a masterpiece of the genre.
Thanks, CM!
The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra? Oh, I HAVE to see that! Have you seen The Crawling Eye? A friend bought it for me as a joke (there’s a big thing about me and eyeballs that all my friends like to play up, but that’s another story) but I ended up liking the movie. 🙂
