Well, so far so good. I still seem to be on a roll here. I’m 3500 words over my cumulative goal. I don’t know where this is coming from because I’m usually taking days off when I get ahead, so that I end up about right on target. I’ve actually taken three days off since this challenge began and still am way ahead. Keep your fingers crossed for me that I don’t stray. LOL
My husband parked in the garage yesterday, so when I left for work this morning I had to actually go outside. It felt like I was in a rain forest or something. It was hot and muggy already at 7:30. But I got to thinking how pretty it is at my house. I live kind of back in the woods where everything is green. I wonder if all the green is what makes it really muggy at my house. I had never thought about that.
Also, when I got to work this morning, I realized our air conditioner wasn’t working. We are supposed to have highs in the mid 90’s and who knows what the heat index might be. And this is why I love my boss…he told me to go back home and work. So I gathered all of the stuff I needed to work from home and came back here where it’s so much cooler. I love working from home because it involves shorts, t-shirt, and bare feet. 🙂
So how is everyone else doing?
Actually it’s probably cooler in the middle of all the green. We have lots of not green, open spaces and it still feels like breathing through a wet blanket.
I guess when the temps get this high with this kind of humidity, it doesn’t matter how green it is. It’s just HOT! If I had stayed at the office today, I probably would have passed out. Bleh.
Lauralynn, I live in the interior of Florida; nice and humid, and hot as Hades. I’m just hoping that the warm stickiness is good for my skin! It’s awfully nice that your boss sent you home–I love working from home 😀
You’re doing great on your goals; it sounds like you’re definitely on a roll–long may it last!
Thanks, Nancy!
I’ve never thought about how hot it might be in FL if you’re not near the beach. That sea breeze doesn’t continually blow in the middle of FL, does it?
I was SO glad my boss sent me home. I can access my work computer from here, so I can do everything but answer the phone. LOL
Awesome that you are ahead! Perhaps you are picking up the slack for me? lol Glad you get to be in the cool. All my midwest friends are in hell right now and meanwhile it hasn’t been hot enough here to swim outside but one day. Not that I’m complaining!
Thanks, Stacey! I hope I can keep it up.
It’s so much nicer working from home. And quieter!
I saw how hot the midwest is right now. Worse than here in the southeast! I can’t believe you’re not getting any of this heat.
Great job with keeping ahead. I’m ahead by 3 days but I can already see myself getting behind this week.
I’m in FL and it’s hot, muggy, terrible. It was hot and terrible in the city too. I think more asphalt makes it hotter than in the backwoods (where I too, live). It still sucks.
Thanks, Crystal. If you’re ahead, try to write enough to keep that going if you can. It feels much better to be ahead than behind.
Asphalt is the worst! I hate walking in a parking lot in this kind of weather.
I snorkeled into work today. Then, I realized that a snorkel just uses the same air as my unaided mouth. SCUBA would have been better, but all that gear…
If I were writing an underwater or hell-themed fantasy thriller, I’d have about twenty-seven new descriptive words. Sadly, my WIP is in the middle of winter. Those lucky characters (forget all the hell I’m putting them through).
Nah, snow sucks too.
Anyway, this was a roundabout path to say “keep up the good work.” Being ahead is good juju.
Thanks, Matt. I’m laughing my head off at your comments. So, are you trying to tell me it’s wet? LOL
Just a bit. And yes, I’m in the Midwest. 🙂
Congrats on all of the progress! Also, glad to hear you were able to work from home and in the cool. After a week in the desert (dry heat, of course, not the humidity that you’re experiencing), I have to say that I am relieved to be back on the coast, although the morning fog was a bit of a shock. 🙂
Hope you’re able to maintain the energy for the rest of the week!
Thanks, Jamila!
You were in Vegas, weren’t you? It’s always humid here. I wouldn’t know what dry heat felt like. LOL.
What a wonderful working space! It sounds delightful…and you are fortunate to be able to work at home.
I am enjoying my writing space at home, too.
My husband helped me fix up a little office for me to write in. My son gave me a desk. Of course, I’m in here with all the exercise equipment, and it seems like it’s all going “when are you going to use us again?” LOL
I love being at home. We set up the computer at my office so I could link to it. It gets really busy for us in the spring, and I have to take work home at night. It was handy when we had snow days, too!
Good to hear you are doing so well with staying ahead of your word count. Sitting in my freezing lounge room as I write this (stuck in a freezing Aussie winter, oh yeah and it it raining too!) I am very envious of the heat you are experiencing.!!
Thanks, Jody!
Um, I’m not sure you would be envious if you had to deal with it for too long. LOL. Actually, I might agree with you. I HATE being cold.
I’m back at work this morning, and still no air conditioning. They have all the windows open and fans going. I might make it until lunch. I wore shorts and flip flops this morning. 🙂
Wow, you are doing so well. Keep at it!
You probably won’t believe me, but I WISH it was that hot here. We’ve had nothing but rain and clouds and cold weather for well over a week in London and I’m sick of it. Swap for a week??
Thanks!
I don’t know about swapping. How cold is it?
Great work staying ahead of your goal! I’m in NYC and it’s supposed to get to 103 today I think. I’m in AC now but I am DREADING the subway rides home. Seriously, it’s like they pump hot air into those things just for fun. I’m so jealous you get to work at home.
Anywhoo, keep up the great work!
Thanks, Lisa!
I’m actually at work again this morning. I worked half a day here and the other half at home yesterday. Today, I came in wearing shorts and a t-shirt. If I’m going to be hot, then I’m going to be semi-comfortable. I may have to go home again today at lunch. The heat triggers migraines. 😦
