Due to my mom being in the hospital, I haven’t touched my book in ten days. I had my laptop at the hospital one day, but there are way too many distractions to do anything but a crossword puzzle. 😦 I thought she was going to get to go home yesterday, but she’s having breathing issues that a really sharp nurse noticed and told the doctor. So now they’re trying to figure out what’s going on with that. (She’s really been having those issues for a long while, but her primary care doctor is useless.)
Anway, now I’m trying to decide if I’ll be able to catch up or if I should wait for the next round of ROW80 and start on a new project. Still undecided.
Honey, don’t you worry about playing catch up. That’s the beauty of ROW80. You can change your goal when life happens. So glad the nurse caught the breathing problem with your mom. When things settle back down, then you can pick back up and move forward at whatever pace you’re able.
Thanks Kait. You’re always an encouragement to me.
I agree with Kait….there is no failure, especially when life events happen. You just change your priorities and begin again…or not.
Hang in there…hope your mom is better soon.
Here’s my ROW 80
Thanks Laurel. I sure hope she gets to come home today.
I’m sure your mom is happy for your company. Writing can wait. It will be there when you are ready for it again.
Thanks Cathryn. I know my mom feels bad about me having to put the project aside. But I told her she was more important.
I have to agree, your Mom is much more important.
Hope she gets better soon.
My mom is definitely more important, Linda. Thanks for your kind words.
where did fail come from? you are with your mum – and surely it’s not a race – no catchup we set our own goals we are allowed to move our own goals.
relax girl and just be thankful for sharp eyed nurses – the words and paper will still be there when all is well again
Thank you, Alberta. We are on our way home now. And you’re right…I shouldn’t have used the word fail.
You didn’t fail. You were there for your mom when she needed you. Row80 will be here whenever things settle down and so will all your peeps.
Thanks Andrew. And I do miss my peeps.
Hey, lady! I’m glad your mom is doing better.
I agree with everyone else. Just pick up where you left off and keep going. Remember that’s the beauty of being an indie author. When life intervenes you have the schedule to be able to stop and then continue. No deadlines other than the ones you put on yourself. Those are allowed to be changed.
So yes, no more using the fail word. You have “opportunities” only. 🙂
Thanks, Anya. I’m still trying to decide whether to try to finish it before the end of the first round, put it aside and work on something else in round two, or finish it in round two, then pick up the next project. The beauty of it is that I can choose whichever I want to do. I love ROW80.
Life sometimes throws us curve balls that put things in perspective for us. As much as we value our creative writing time, family is much more important. (As I have to remind my self sometimes, even when everyone is well.) I’m glad to hear about the nurse’s sharp eye (ear?). I really hope you mother is on the upswing soon and able to return to the comforts of her own home.
Thanks, Michelle. She got to go home yesterday afternoon. I stayed with her until about 10:30 last night, then my youngest son (who’s out of work right now) came to stay with her during the night and today while I’m at work. She insists that she doesn’t need anyone to stay with her, but I don’t feel comfortable about her being alone until I’ve seen how things go for a few days.
Oh, honey–sorry about your mom’s health issues. I hope she’s up & around soon.
You can always just revise your goals in a way that shows you have completed them all before the 80 days, and we will all think you are super-awesome-really-rockin’-the-writing & we will all want to be like you. No one ever has to know but you & me. 😉
Thank you, Sharon.
I like the way you think! 😀
Lauralynn,
I know about this kind of stress. Just concentrate on the life-stuff for now. Don’t worry about the writing until it’s a help to you.
ROW80, like Kait said, isn’t about falling behind on an immovable goal. It’s about staying motivated. The goals can be adjusted as life happens.
Good for you, being there for your mom!
Thank you, Craig. When something happens to your family, writing has to take a back seat for awhile. But I’m already figuring out how I want to readjust my goals. It helps to have the support of all the great authors who are involved in ROW80 as well as other authors and readers. I feel a lot less like I “failed” now. :0)
