When I stated my goals in January, I had two goals I wanted to accomplish during the round and one I wanted to accomplish sometime in 2015. Here is a recap and the outcome.

1) Finish and publish the novella written under my other pen name for the anthology Iโ€™m doing with another author. Goal to finish: January 31 Finished this January 20

2) Finish the mystery Iโ€™ve started and publish under that same pen name. Goal to finish: Mid to Late March Finished this in early March

3) Write and publish at least one title under my Lauralynn name. I have three ideas and donโ€™t yet know which one Iโ€™m going with. Goal: Sometime this year. I’ve chosen the story (sequel to Soul of a Vampire) and have started some plotting with some help from Susan Bischoff This one wasn’t a round goal, but a 2015 goal, so I think I’m doing fine. ๐Ÿ™‚

I know I didn’t have MAJOR goals this round, but I honestly think I did really well considering I have a full time job and a proofreading business.

forge badgeThings have been going along smoothly, but I’ve suddenly found myself with three proofreading jobs coming up (already working on one). I always sort of have a dilemma with this as pertains to my actual writing, but I have to look at my client jobs first because that brings in more money that my writing at the moment. That might change someday, but right now I have to be practical. I can easily work on 2-3 proofreading jobs simultaneously (or back to back depending on their deadlines), but to do that AND write is tricky. However, I have a goal of 150,000 words for this year, which averages out to 12,500 per month, and I intend to make that goal. I made the January goal, but fell a little short (by about 1100 words) on February. I can still make that up later. In order to make the goal of 150K, I have to write 411 words per day. I usually write more than that, and I take a couple days a week off. So my plan is to just try to make the 411 (15-30 minutes) a day while I’m proofing for others, then when I have no proofing jobs, I can write more and try to get ahead. That’s the plan right now.

So…my lunch hours and my after work hours will be spent proofreading. I’ll be a busy bee. ๐Ÿ™‚ And I’m very thankful for the jobs.

Duke – 8 or 9 months old

Since Facebook no longer seems to pick up pictures from WordPress blogs unless it’s in that post, I thought I would provide a picture so it would show up. And what better picture than a happy dog, right? This was taken a couple of years ago, I think. The caption was already on there when I found it on my computer.

Where did January go???

There’s been progress. I got the manuscript written with my other pen name off to the publisher. I’m beta reading right now for a friend, and I have a couple of small things to proofread. I plan on picking back up on a mystery I started awhile back before I stopped to do this last novella. I should be able to get that done by the end of March. Then it’s on to a story for another anthology.

I have another Lauralynn book I need to get done before the end of the year. I’m probably going to write a sequel to Soul of a Vampire. It will revolve around a different character, the best friend of the “shero” in SoaV.

I’m really trying to be more productive this year. So far, it’s going well. I have a goal of 150,000 words this year. I made my January goal. I’m using my nifty Supernatural spreadsheet to keep up with my monthly and yearly words. ๐Ÿ™‚

ROW80 Update 1/28/15

Well, look at me actually posting two check-ins in a row! Now I need to get back to blogging in between check-ins. ๐Ÿ™‚

It looks like I’m going to make my deadline with my other pen name project. Which I have to, really, since Ruth and I are using a publisher. I don’t remember what my goal was for getting my mystery finished. LOL. I guess I need to go back and look to see what it was.

And you?

My name is Lauralynn Elliott, and it’s been 11 days since my last check-in….

I can’t believe I’ve missed that many check-ins! Well, two, I guess. I’m feeling a little overwhelmed by all the stuff on my plate right now, and when that happens, the blog is the first thing to be neglected. I need to do better.

Things are actually going pretty well. I finished the novella I’m doing with the other pen name. I’m going to be in another anthology with that pen name, and I have a mystery started that I decided to do under that pen name. I haven’t started the next book under Lauralynn, but I think I know the story I’m going to do. I have two more ideas for Lauralynn, but I don’t know how much I’m going to get done this year. We’ll see. For an actual goal, I only have one Lauralynn book planned, but I’ve been more productive this year, so you just never know. ๐Ÿ™‚

ROW80 Update 1/11/15

Most of you know I’ve been VERY sick. Bleh. I feel like I’m on the mend, but I’m still not well. This means I haven’t been super productive lately.

However…yesterday, I wrote over 2000 words. I was really into the story. I think part of it was because I was in the middle of an action scene, and I really like doing those. I used to be afraid of them, but one time a reader told me they thought I wrote good action scenes, so now I’m not afraid. Isn’t it funny how just a little bit of encouragement can help us so much?

I had an early birthday celebration with my family last night since I’m going to be out of town for my actual birthday next week. I also had to go get a gift for my daughter-in-law’s birthday, so yesterday was a busy day. I decided I would write first and then do everything else later. That really works for me. Write first.

I wasn’t going to post today because I’m so sick I was afraid nothing would make sense. I haven’t been this sick in awhile. The only reason I’m pretty sure it isn’t the flu is that I haven’t had a fever at all. Just all the other symptoms.

Anyway, I’m a guest author at Facebook party at the moment, so I figure if I have to be on the computer anyway, I might as well pop over here and state goals. If there are typos in this post it’s because I’m pretty much brain dead right now.

Hereโ€™s my plan for 2015.

1) Finish and publish the novella written under my other pen name for the anthology Iโ€™m doing with another author. Goal to finish: January 31
2) Finish the mystery Iโ€™ve started and publish under that same pen name. Goal to finish: Mid to Late March
3) Write and publish at least one title under my Lauralynn name. I have three ideas and donโ€™t yet know which one Iโ€™m going with. Goal: Sometime this year.

As far as the goals for THIS round, the first two goals would probably qualify since I want to have the mystery finished by March. I’ve found myself to be more productive lately, but the last three days has shot that down. There’s no telling what my story would look like if I tried to write it while I’m sick!

Anyway, I plan to make this first round the most productive in a long time. I’ve been with ROW80 from the very beginning, and I used to be very productive. I want to be that way again!

I just realized I didn’t check in Sunday. The two check-in days, Wednesday and Sunday, are the two hardest days for me because they are church days, and I don’t write on those days. Anyway, I did make some progress on Saturday. I got in 1500+ words on my WIP. I tried to use my Dragon Speech recognition software, but I was about to throw the mic against the wall because it couldn’t recognize the word “cap”. And it seems to do just as well using the computer mic as the headphone/mic (which I discovered by accident when I was using it one day and realized I didn’t have the headphone/mic hooked up to the computer!). So I typed the old-fashioned way. ๐Ÿ™‚

Even though I’m working from a real outline for the first time, my story still keeps going in different directions, and I keep having to add points that I hadn’t even thought of when I did the outline. Someone totally different from my original idea did a bad thing, and using a different person for this made it easier for the hero and shero to get together later. So if you fear outlines because you think it stifles your creativity, just remember, it isn’t written in stone. You can just add or take out stuff as you go. Outlines just give you a direction to start going.

First I want to apologize for not getting my sponsor duties done in a timely manner this week. For about 3 days, I felt AWFUL. I had weird feelings in my chest (I’m hoping it was my hiatal hernia acting up and not my heart), severe nausea (but no throwing up), sore eyeballs, headache, aching ears (part of the time), dizziness…in other words EVERYTHING felt awful. But no fever. I have no idea what it was, but I started feeling better gradually. I feel completely normal (that’s relative) today.

Anyway, I didn’t get anything done related to writing. Nothing. Hopefully, the rest of the week will be better!

I just checked in two days ago! Wait…I was a day late. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve been making some progress. In the last three days, I’ve written for about an hour and a half, 1908 words. I didn’t write last night because I was SO upset with CreateSpace. When I got my proof, the cover of Fire Wizard was so dark and bland. Nothing like the colorful cover Anya had made for me. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I just couldn’t focus. So I went to my friend’s Jamberry Nail Facebook party. Retail therapy is so effective. You know, that’s the first Facebook party I’ve ever attended that wasn’t an author’s party. It was the first party I’ve ever attended on my “real life” Facebook account. And I won something!

I did write about 30 minutes during lunch today. Wednesday isn’t usually a writing day, but since I was feeling sorry for myself last night, I thought I better make it up a little. LOL
