I seem to waffle between doing really well for a month, then slacking off for a month. I need to stop the slacking off! I got off my game because of something that had to do with my writing, but after talking to a few encouraging people, the whole thing seemed to be one person’s issue, so I feel better. Still, I haven’t completely bounced back from it. There was a lot of discouragement involved. I have to get over it.
Anyway, I didn’t make my word count goal for the month, so that’s put me behind for the year. I’m also way behind this month, but I have time to catch up, and that’s my intention.
Goals:
1. Make my monthly word count goal of 12,739 for July, 12,740 for August, and 12,329 for September. (Based on 150,000 words for the year.)
2. Finish writing the second in the mystery series written under my other pen name.
3. Write at least 250 words a day on the sequel to Soul of a Vampire until I’m finished with the mystery, then readjust the goal when I’m writing ONLY that. (I have trouble writing two stories at once, but I’m going to try to write a LITTLE on that second story.)
I’m on vacation this week, so that could either help or hinder my writing, depending on what we’re doing that day.
I’m hoping this will be a great round for all of us!
I love your #3: a small goal, but oh-so-achievable. Good for you fitting vacation in with all these other goals. Treat your Self right, too!
I figure if I spend most of my words on what I’m trying to get finished and published soon, I should be able to write at least 250 on the other book. I’m really trying to work toward working on more than one thing at a time.
I really, really need this vacation from my day job!
I’ve noticed that I have definite ebbs and surges, too…I wonder if it would help to halve your word count goal one month, and double then next? Might not even be feasible, but it popped into my head, so I’m sharing!
You’ve got lovely concise goals. And I’m rooting for you! =)
I’m way behind for this month, thus far, too…but July is – tricky. Yes, that’s the word I’m gonna use for it. If I need my energy for surfing the emotional waves, and being a decent person to live with in the process, then, well, that’s where my energy will go!
Thanks, Shan, you’re always rooting for the rest of us. 🙂
Your energy should always go to what’s most important. That’s not always writing. I wish you luck with whatever you have to deal with!
We’re all in this together. =D
And, I’m not so much the competitive sort, except against my own best….
I have to deal with the month of births and death, and it’s not easy riding those waves, even after a dozen years of practice…
But I am learning, every year. It’s not always easy, but it is doable….
Thanks for the luck, That may come in handy before the month is out! =D
Good luck with your goals this round
Thanks, Fallon!
12,739 sounds so daunting to me until I figured out it was something like 434 words a day, and then I figured out I have NEVER written 434 words a day (there about) for an entire year so then I fell on the floor.
Not really.
I love it that you have the 150,000 words for the year goal. I really love it that you’re on vacation right now :).
Writing 434 words a day isn’t bad. But if you skip a couple of days, then you have to make up for it. If you skip a BUNCH of days, you really have to make up for it! LOL
I really needed this vacation. I’ve had to walk a lot, though, so I’m pretty tired. I’ll be glad to spend the last couple of days of vacation at home. 🙂
Yep, the whole cycle of doing awesome one month and sucking the next happens to me all the time. I feel so unproductive during those low word count months, too. It’s frustrating. Just when you’re on a roll, something happens and your momentum is gone.
I hope you can pick up speed soon. *fingers crossed*
I’m trying to balance writing, editing, and my day job. It gets overwhelming. I’m going to try to cut out some things that feel like wasting time without completely giving up my downtime. I need some of that, too. I think I need a more rigid schedule.
