I’ve pondered about this round’s goals. I see a lot of people list a LOT of goals. Sometimes it makes me feel inadequate. Then I realized, I have a full time job, a writing job, and a proofreading job. So I’m cutting myself some slack. I’m only going to list goals I think I can accomplish.
So here goes.
1) Write anthology novella
2) Write at least a quarter of the Soul of a Vampire sequel (I already have it plotted out).
3) Plot out the 2nd novella in the series I’m writing under the other pen name.
4) Continue to lose weight toward my “Operation Kick the Insulin” goal for 2015. (I’m not giving specific weight loss goals because some of that isn’t under my control.)
I think that’s enough. Not overwhelming, but enough to keep me on my toes.
I think the number of goals is so much less important than that we set them based on who we are, how we tick, and what our priorities and vision are…
Different people, different needs, different approaches, different destinations….
Different goals.
Mine, as a radically unschooling mom of two getting older kids (13.5 and almost 11 now, can you believe THAT?!) , will of course be different than yours, with grown kids and lots of outside work I don’t have at this point in my life.
These goals seem challenging enough, and meaningful. Cheers! =D
The thing is to not compare ourselves with other writers, which is basically what you’re saying. We’re all different. And I have to stop worrying about whether I’m as productive as someone else.
Yes! We all have our own paths to follow. =)
I see nothing wrong with your goals, Lauralynn. We all have different needs and ways of expressing what we wish to focus our efforts on. My actual goals are simple… at least for the ROW80. If I added my goals for my work or home or most any other part of my life, yeah, I could make a huge list too.
Are you working on things that matter for you? If so, then these are excellent goals. Go for them.
I actually have a LOT of goals when it comes to home, family, and church. But I just don’t want to list all those here. I think part of the reason I get so stressed about not having as many writing goals to meet as some people is that I WANT to do this full time. And I just can’t financially.
Absolutely nothing wrong with your goals here. Different people have different demands on their time and different ways of doing things. I’ve tried paring mine down, and…it just doesn’t work for me. Honestly, because I don’t have a job outside the home, I feel like I should be getting even more done than I do.
As I said to Eden, I want to be able to do this full time. My full time job is dragging me down and preventing me from doing what I really want. I don’t hate my job, but it’s in the way, if that makes sense. I would love to have all those goals that are in my head. š
Did you work through that hiccup in the sequel to the Soul of a Vampire book? (I’m hoping you did since you mentioned having it figured out. š I’m looking forward to reading the sequel.)
I set a lot of goals (as you know) with writing, but I’m sure you noticed I have also pushed back my deadlines on multiple occasions. Setting goals is easier than reaching them, but I still think it’s good to set them so you at least have something to reach for.
I think you got a great list of goals. You have more on your plate than I do.
Yes, I talked to Susan, “The Pink Hammer”, and we kind of figured out how to weave the two plots together. In fact, while I was working on it last night, there was a couple of places where both plots were the same thing.
I have three different projects I need to work on, and I’m anxious to get them all done. I never work on projects simultaneously, but I’m going to this time and see how it works out. It might be interesting to move from one to another since all three are different genres. I know I said I was only going to plot the 2nd in the mystery series, but if a scene hits me, I’m going to write it. š I’ll probably focus most on the anthology novella since others are depending on me for that one.
I no longer get bent out of shape if I have to push deadlines back. I like to meet my goals, but I’m not going to stress over them if I don’t. As long as I meet the goals I commit to with other people, my personal ones can be put off if necessary.
