Just a reminder about my recent release. *end of shameless plug*
I don’t know why I keep skipping out on my check-ins. Not to mention the fact that I’m not blogging at all aside from that. I think part of it is I used to have a better following and lots of comments, and now, not so much. So it makes me lose interest in doing it. See, I don’t blog just to get things out of my system. I blog to interact with other people. I’m not one to feel the need to keep a journal or write down my thoughts (unless it leads to fiction!). Yeah, I’m not the typical writer.
Anyway, I’ve been piddling around again, not getting much done. Using the excuse of being too busy. But I look back and see some things I could cut down on (but they’re FUN) so I can work more. I have two proofreading jobs right now, so I AM pretty busy. Anyway, I sat down last night and wrote almost 1000 words on my WIP. I’m trying to figure out how long the shero is going to hold out (she has reasons) before letting the hero back into her life. Plus, I need to get back to the murder mystery part of the story. It’s hard to balance the romance with the mystery. I’m also beginning to wonder if this is going to end up being a novella instead of a novel. I hope not. But I’m tired of trying to force a shorter work into a longer one. I generally write shorter stuff, and it’s mostly because that’s what I usually like to read. There are exceptions, of course. Anyway, I’m glad I started writing on my WIP again. I’m liking it again, so that helps.
To Get Me To You took so blessed long to write, I am enjoying working on something shorter!
One of the things I love about self publishing is that you can let a work be however long it needs to be, not how long some publisher or genre dictates.
That’s definitely a perk in self publishing. I feel stressed when I’m trying to write a novel, but I never stressed about the novellas. They were much easier. But…my reviews are much better on my novels than on my novellas, so I wonder about that, too.
Like you, I tend to write shorter works. That’s just what I enjoy. I’d love to write a novel–I’ve written them before–but, well, I just can’t come up with a plot for one at the moment. Novels give you lots of time to explore subplots and get to know a cast of characters. But writing shorter works can be fun, too. I’m working on a series of novelettes at the moment, which is sort of like writing a novel. 🙂
If you’re looking for a blogging boost, I just joined the WIPpet Wednesday crowd, hosted by K.L. Schwengel. It’s a fantastic, supportive group of writers, much like ROW80. I can’t remember if you’ve participated before, but if not, you might want to give it a shot.
Happy writing, Lauralynn!
I haven’t done the WIPpet thing, but I see a lot of people participating.
I struggle a bit with non row80/WiPPet posts. But, mostly, it’s that if I don’t have something to say, I don’t say anything. I don’t like to talk just to talk(just ask my mom or husband. I’m horrible on the phone).
Glad you’re liking your story again. I’m the opposite, I actually have trouble writing short normally.
I’m a little weird, because I’m this introvert/extrovert mix. Sometimes I can talk a lot, and sometimes I just want to be left alone. And I HATE to talk on the phone. I could kiss whoever invented texting!
You’re lucky if you have no problems writing longer stories!
I enjoy reading your blog posts. I’m not on Facebooh all that often so blogging is still my way of keeping in touch with writers and friends online.
You’ve always been a constant reader! Thanks for that!

You were right the first time. LOL
