Hello all of my fellow ROWers, as well as those who are not ROW80ers but still loyal blog followers! I appreciate you all so much! π
I’ve had a really good writing week. I hit my 5K goal for the first week since this round. I wrote 5,213 words this week. I’m really getting into this story, and I hope my momentum continues.
A word about page fright. I’ve noticed I’ve had that with the last few books I’ve written. I’ve finally figured out why I didn’t have it as much before. I’m not afraid of novellas, so when I was writing those, I wasn’t scared. It’s these full length novels that scare me. I don’t know why. I think there’s a part of me that’s always afraid I won’t be able to write enough words. Honestly, there’s nothing wrong with writing novellas. My only problem with them is they’re not really long enough for a paperback. And I really like having copies of my book I can hold in my hand. And I have a few readers who still read that way. I have some more thoughts about novellas and short stories, as well as genre, but that’s for a different post.
I’m trying to revamp my website just a little bit. For my book page, I want just the covers, then a link to another page when you click on the cover. Then that page will have the blurb and the first chapter of the book. I never dreamed this would take so much time. But I think it will be better once I get it done.
Have the rest of you met your writing goals this week? If not, are you fired up for next week?
That’s a great word count you reached. I’ve been bad this week so will knuckle down from tomorrow.
Thanks, Emma! Last week is over, so tomorrow is a new day!
That’s an excellent word count. This past few weeks I’ve been bogged down with research but it’s about essentials that I must get right for the believability of hte book. I know exactly what you mean about website design: the simplest thing is a total time vacuum!
Thanks! This is a better word count than I’ve had in a long time. Dealing with websites is so tedious sometimes.
It’s a huge pain to go through and get the website updated. It’s a total time suck. I don’t know if you can do a little each day if that would help or not.
I understand about the novella vs novel thing. I feel a lot easier about starting a 50K novel than a 65-70K one. It seems like the smaller is easier to approach.
That’s awesome on your word count for Fire Wizard. It sounds like you’re flying right along. π
I think you’re right about working on the site a little at a time. I’ve been kind of doing that.
Thanks, I’m happy about the word count. Guess what else I’ve been working on. π
How interesting about the novellas vs. novels, Lauralynn! Because I’ve been writing a short story that’s getting longer and longer, and someone said, “Maybe it should be a novella.” And I’d never thought about writing novellas. But they seem like a good length for a fleshed-out story. The novels are more difficult, IMO, because you have to weave and weave the plot and subplots together just right. But you can do it! If you can write a good novella, I’m convinced the novel is in you too.
Great word count this week! Thrilled you met your goal. Hope this week is another banner week for you. Happy writing!
I know I can write a novel. I’ve done it several times. But I still always have this fear of not being able to make the current one long enough. I think if I just let the story flow out, and not worry about the length, maybe it will be easier. Someone told me if a story is meant to be a novel, it will be, or if it should be a novella, then it will be. The story decides. Another big consideration for me besides the fact that I want it in paperback is that I don’t feel right charging 2.99 for a novella if I’m now charging that for a novel. (All my older stuff is .99.) We’ll see how it goes. π
Awesome word count!
Thanks, Chris!
