This is a writing update of a very different kind. I’m such a proud mom right now. My son is a security officer at a plant that is under construction right now, so he has a lot of free time when he isn’t checking in visitors and workers. So he called me a few minutes ago and said, “I got really bored at work so I started writing. I’ve handwritten three pages so far, and my hand is really tired.” I said, “What genre?” He said, “Kind of horror and adventure. There are zombies.” I’m doing the happy dance in my mind right now.
How many of you have children who are writing?
My daughter’s one of those writes and illustrates stories, puts on plays, makes movies kinds of kids. She’s awesome. Hope your son keeps working on his story!
Isn’t it great to have creative children? Even though my children are adults. LOL. You wouldn’t believe the amount of squee! that was going through my head while he was telling me about this.
So your daughter could be a writer, an artist, a producer…or all of the above!
That’s very cool! I really like his choices of genre. 😀
Mine are a little young, but they tell each other stories and pretend to use laptops to “work” like me. I get a kick out of that. Then again, there isn’t much that I don’t get a kick out of. 🙂
Hey, if they are already making up stories, you could have some writers coming along soon! 🙂
I’m secretly hoping. Right now ninja seems to be making the top of all of their lists. 😀
My son once claimed her *wanted* to write and went so far as to get some tips from published mom, but nothing ever came of it. Maybe it will still happen, but I’m not crossing my fingers. Now he’s working on a Ph.D. and has a small daughter. That is not a recipe for a lot of spare time to write. 😐
Sometimes our kids might want to write just because we do. But, then, some will go on to write and publish. We never know until it happens, but it’s always a great feeling to think they might want to do what we do.
I think that’s great that your son is working on his PhD. That’s all kinds of awesome. And having a daughter is even better. 🙂
Well, Lauralynn you know my son, so who knows what he may do one day! He’s got his fingers into soooo many things. He mentioned wanting to write a book series about a fire dragon but he’s not mentioned it lately. Too many other things to occupy his time lately. 🙂
Anya, your son is young enough that he has many years to think about what he wants to do. It still amazes me that a ten year old can work on cars the way he does. He’s a very smart boy, that’s for sure! He’s going to be one of those people that can do anything he sets his mind to.
I love this! I don’t have any kids, but I’ve just learned that a couple of my cousins on my mom’s side of the family have been working on poetry and short stories. Apparently that’s the side of the family tree where all the creative talent comes from — my grandmother and her older sister have both written stories, and I have great-aunts and -uncles who were dancers and painters.
Lena, it sounds like you have a lot of talent in your family.
This is a great time for authors. Indie publishing has opened some doors really wide, and I think it will make creative people work on their craft more, knowing that they don’t have to wait on the publishers to make up their minds.
