Last week was a good week and a bad week.
The good. I managed to write 5544 words last week. And I only wrote three days, so that averaged 1848 per day. The biggest chunk was on Saturday when I sat down and wrote 2705 words.
The bad, and the reason I didn’t write Thursday. Those of you who keep up with my blog, other than the ROW80 check ins, already know I lost a very good friend Thursday morning. We still don’t know what happened, and the autopsy results won’t be in for awhile. This man and I have been friends for 34 years. He was a co-worker, and it’s going to be hard going to work every day and not seeing him there. His funeral was today, and it was hard.
The novella I wrote under my other pen name is doing really well, but I can’t sell a thing under Lauralynn. I haven’t figured that one out yet.
That’s all I have today.
You got more written in the week than I have in the past two weeks.
I think what’s so scary about your friend dying is that he was just fine right up until the end. Did he pass away in his sleep? At least with my friend’s family members, they were old and in a nursing home, so it didn’t surprise anyone. Oh, I just forgot. Another friend’s grandmother-in-law just died, too. What a year. 😦
Hmm…on the difference in sales between your pen name and this one. Is it possible the genre could be at play in it?
His wife found him on the floor of the bathroom that morning. I hope the autopsy finds what happened. I guess it doesn’t really matter, but sometimes we need closure.
I do think it’s probably the genre. Paranormal romance comes and goes, I think. I know a popular paranormal author who is also struggling. I guess mystery is a genre that’s timeless. It’s always been around and probably always will be. Kind of like historical romance, especially regencies. I’m sure the .99 price doesn’t hurt, but it’s a novella by an unknown author, so I think .99 is the right price for it. It got up to 5419 on Amazon, and it’s been a LONG time since I’ve had a book go that high. On the other hand, I’ve only sold one copy at B & N. LOL
That is definitely a great count for the week.
I have no idea on the difference in sales, but I’ll say I’ve barely sold anything through B&N(or anything but Amazon).
Thanks, Fallon.
I can remember when one book of mine a long time ago almost got to the top 100 on Amazon. It did better at B & N first, THEN it took off at Amazon. And now B & N is hit or miss. I suspect Kindle Unlimited is hurting sales at other venues. Amazon is taking over the world. LOL
Sorry to hear about your friend passing away, Lauralynn.
Thank you, Emma. It’s been hard at work today.
I grieve with you. It’s always hard to lose someone you care about, and who is a part of day-to-day life – and it can be so much harder when it’s unexpected and you don’t know the whys….
As for the book sales – I don’t know. Personally, I’d be more likely to read something paranormal than a mystery, but I’m more than a little odd, and certainly not representative of mainstream tastes…
You made some great progress last week, though, and some books are selling, so those are things to hand onto.
Sending you much, much love as you navigate a difficult time.
Thank you so much, Shan. It’s been very strange around him without him. 😦
My reading taste is so eclectic, I don’t know what’s in or out. I read in many genres.
I hopethe strangeness will ease, but the many years of happy memories will remain.
Honestly, I don’t read nearly as many books as I might like to, these days. Tends to happen when I’m writing!
