This has been a good week. I only wrote four days last week, but I managed to churn out 4,077 words. So I’m happy with that. My Supernatural (love Sam and Dean) spreadsheet says I’m on track to make my monthly word count goal. This is a novella for an anthology under my other pen name. I still have some plotting to do for my next in a series under that pen name, plus writing a sequel to Soul of a Vampire under Lauralynn.
I still haven’t figured out quite how to write multiple books at the same time. I wanted to this round, but I seem to still be focusing on one at a time. I think part of that is because I figured out some stuff that would make a better plot than the one I originally had planned out. A lot of the basics are the same, but some of the reasons for the conflict have changed. So then I got all excited about writing this. I don’t really want to lose the momentum, so it’s hard to work on something else. We’ll see how that goes.
I’m looking forward to this week because I’m so in love with my current WIP right now. I’m just barely into the second act, so I hope I don’t stall somewhere in the middle!
How lovely that you’re in love with your WIP. That’s always nice.
I do manage to write on more than one thing at a time, but only when one is fiction and another non-fiction.
Here’s to continuing the love affair with the WIP!
It feels really good to love my WIP. There have been times where I hated my current work, usually somewhere in the middle of it. That made it so hard to wade through.
I don’t like to write non-fiction as a general rule. However, I’ve got some ideas for a Bible class book for women that I need to pick back up and work on.
The whole learning to work on multiple projects at once (along with writing faster) is like the holy grail. When I finish my current WIP, the next on deck is a novella, and I’ve got a second novella I’d like to get out this year, so I MAY experiment with taking the weekends for one, and weekdays for the other. We’ll see…
I’m still trying to work out the logistics of it. Maybe work on one thing during lunch and something else that evening. Or alternate days. I hadn’t thought about the weekday/weekend thing. That sounds like a good plan. I hate being defeated, so I’m determined to figure out how to do this.
Awesome that you’re loving your WIP right now.
I have experimented with two projects at the same time, and it has worked in the past, but I seem to do better if I can focus on just one. I’m working on a rewrite of an older project on Sundays only. We’ll see how it goes.
I’m SO glad I’m loving it.
I’ve tried before, but it’s never worked for me. But with two pen names, I’m just about going to have to do it to keep momentum going with both names. I’ll figure it out, I think. It just might take time as well as making a schedule.
I can usually manage to juggle them, but most often they’re in different stages(drafting or revisions). I tend to have more trouble drafting 2 at a time, although I’m attempting it right now. I just have certain goals set for each to get to every day then I try to put them away. One is being a bit more demanding right now, but I didn’t want to just set the other one aside.
It is a wonderful feeling when you love a WiP, isn’t it.
I HAVE written a little bit on a project when I was editing another one. But to actually WRITE two at a time…well, it’s kind of scary. I’m going to try it, though. I hate to be defeated by anything. LOL
It’s definitely a wonderful feeling to love a WIP. I’ve had so many times I loved it at the beginning, wondered why I was writing this crap in the middle, then found the love again close to the end.
I used to write multiple things at one time. However, this year I’ve been working on putting effort into one project at a time. Though, hopping to a different project once a phase is complete (like spend a week writing A and then the following two outlining B). I feel I’m getting more done this way than trying to do all of them at the same time.
Anyways, what I’m saying is more isn’t better and it sounds like you are doing what’s right for your writing. Keep up the great work! 🙂
The reason I’m even thinking about this is that I don’t want readers to wait too long on the sequel for either pen name. And I have great momentum built on the other name. If I can write on one during lunch and one at night, that would be ideal. You know, instead of writing at lunch and calling it a day and doing other stuff besides writing at night. 🙂
I focus on the story that is calling to me most and try to spend at least 15 minutes in the others to keep the story fresh in my mind. I don’t write in every story every day that I write, but I will open it up and glance through it. I’m sure there’s a different method that works for everyone. I’ve learned there is no one way to do any of this stuff. 🙂
Isn’t it awesome when you’re in love with your book? There’s no better feeling in the world.
It’s funny you mention that 15 minutes. I was just thinking today that I might try to spend my normal hour or so on the main book I’m working on and try to work about 15 minutes on another one. Great minds!
