My goal is to write 3,000 word per week. I did it this week. I wrote 3,875 on my current WIP. It’s getting really complicated and twisty, but I think I’ve got it under control. I think I’m just within a few chapters of finishing this thing, so I’m really hoping I’ll have a release before Christmas. It’s going to depend on beta readers.
My other goal is to visit several of my fellow ROW80ers each week. If any of you saw my apology post recently, you’ll know I’ve been very neglectful of that lately. I don’t know when I’ll get those visits done because I have a full day tomorrow after church. We’re going to a baby shower and to visit our son and his wife, and we’re going to church with them tomorrow night. They live about an hour away, so it will be kind of late when I get back. But I’m going to try to pop in on some people’s blogs Monday while I’m at work.
So how are the rest of you doing? Who’s doing NaNo? Not me! 😉
You’re doing great on the word count, Lauralynn! I actually joined NaNo this year, at the last moment, after avoiding it like the plague for years. I am still writing slowly for Nano, but a lot for me–at least 500 words a day, which is twice my usual.
I want to entrench the habit of writing everyday–it works best for me, but I struggle with getting up early to write before the day job, and so on. I do suffer (a LOT) from word count envy, so I have to repeat the mantra in my head that I am not trying to win, but to establish a habit. It works some of the time, anyway! 🙂
I won NaNo two years in a row, and that meant writing 1,667 words a day EVERY day. That’s too much for me, and that’s why I appreciate ROW80 so much. But NaNo always causes so much excitement in the air, it’s hard to resist. I support all my friends who do it. 🙂
I actually don’t write every day. I try to get other stuff done on non-writing days, then devote everything to writing on the writing days. Every writer is different in what works best for them.
Thanks for always being there to encourage!
Great job on hitting your word count goal! Hope you have a good day!
I am doing NaNo. For me, it’s not really too different than any other time I’m writing. I usually try for at least 1500 words a day anyway. But, I don’t usually write on weekends. So, for November I do raise that count a bit. And try to get at least a few words written every day, even the weekends.
Thanks, Fallon! Like I told Elizabeth in the comment above, I don’t write every day. I have certain writing days and certain days I do other stuff. It works for me, at least while I’m working a full time job that’s pretty demanding. Maybe someday…. 🙂
Congrats on the word count.
Thanks, Emma!
Yay on exceeding your word count goal!
Yeah, I’m doing Nano, as a rebel, hoping to use the incentive to complete the novel I’ve been working on off and on most of the year. 🙂
Thanks, Ruth!
Good luck with NaNo. It really works for many writers!
WAY TO GO!!!!! I think you’re gonna get this book done in the same amount of time that I’ve been editing my current WIP. I think I need to change my batteries.
Congrats to you, LL.
Thanks, Chris! You helped prod me to get my word count in with your support. Maybe we’ll finish together. 🙂
Well done on the word count. I’ve not been able to write anything for about the last 2 months so I am doing NaNo just to kick myself up the b**t. I have finally managed to break the log jamb and have written about 6000 words since it began. I agree that the NaNo word count is usually too much – I only managed about 20,000 words last year, but if I can just use it to motivate myself to get on with finishing my WIP, it’s a useful tool.
Thanks, Pam. I went awhile without writing, too. I had to motivate myself. LOL. I know NaNo helps a lot of writers get out of the slump. I think it’s because there’s so much excitement in the air. Good luck!
Since I’ve been procrastinating on starting this second book, NaNo gave me the perfect excuse for going far and as fast as I can. It’s re-establishing the almost daily habit that’s most important to me.
Congratulations on exceeding your word count goal. When the plot gets complicated, it’s better to go slow and write solid scenes that will stand strong in the end. No sense creating rubbish by going too fast. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, Kathrese. I’m plodding along, slow and steady, 🙂
Good luck with NaNo. It can really help get the writing habit back on track.
Congratulations on meeting your word count! 😀
If you need any more beta readers, I’d love to volunteer to do it.
I’ve decided to try NaNo this year. I don’t know if I’ll actually make the word count goal, but I figured it doesn’t hurt to give it my best shot.
Thanks, Ruth! I was hoping you would volunteer to beta read again. 🙂
I can’t believe you’re doing NaNo! You’ve gone over to the dark side! Hee hee. Just kidding. I think you can do the word count. It might be fun!
