In honor of the Halloween season, I’m doing a giveaway. The prize is a free coupon code on Smashwords for my ebook, “The Gnome”, and the prize pictured below. Here’s all you have to do. In the comments, tell me the scariest book you’ve ever read. One reader said “The Gnome” made them dream about it. Another reader said “The giggling, garden gnome scared the crap out of me.” So how about it? What book scared you the most? All comments will be entered into the drawing. You know what? I’m going to give everyone that comments a free ebook of “The Gnome” (if you’ve already read that one, you can have another one of your choice). So the drawing will include the ebook AND the prize shown below. I’m going to end the contest at midnight on October 18 and will announce the winner on October 19.
This is a cute little gnome set from www.millsmix.com.. It includes a gnome figurine, 7″ wire arbor, 48″ roll fencing, birdbath, wheelbarrow, shovel, wire chair, and birdhouse. Make a whimsical mini-garden in a flower pot, around a tree, or in your garden. (Plant, pot, etc. not included.)
I won’t lie… gnomes kinda freak me out. But the scariest book I’ve ever read? “It” by Stephen King.
I might have to agree with you on “IT”. That was the creepiest clown. The whole thing was scary. Pet Sematary (not my spelling!) was pretty scary, too!
Gnomes are cute! Sariest book I read was The Strain. Shiver! 🙂

The gnome in MY book isn’t cute! LOL
I looked at The Strain. It DOES sound scary. I might have to check that out.
That’s a hard one. I guess House by Frank Peretti and Tedd Deker. (I think I spelled the authors’ names right.) I listened to that on audiobook and Frank Peretti did an awesome job speaking. He was able to add to the creepiness of the whole thing. 😀 The idea that people are trapped in a house and can’t get out has always spooked me ever since my mom, my sister, and I watched a 70s movie along that plot.
That’s a cute little gnome set, by the way.
You know, I still think Frank Peretti was the guy who read See Me when I first published it and emailed me about it. I think that was his name. Anyway, that sounds like a book I would love.
I love that gnome set. There is a fairy set, too, but that just wouldn’t fit. LOL
I think the scariest book I’ve ever read was “The Door in the Dragon’s Throat” by Frank Peretti. It’s actually part of a young adult series, but the first book was so creepy that I really didn’t want to continue reading the books. Ha!
Anyways, I love GNOMES! You chose such a whimsical little set to give away. I love it!
Another vote for Frank Peretti! I’m going to have to read some of his stuff.
The gnome set is really cute. But the one in my book is NOT. 🙂
Probably The Stand by Stephen King. I had nightmares about it and spent many hours thinking about how I’d cope not only in a post-apocalyptic world, but forced to deal with the nightmare of Randall Flagg invading my dreams every night.
My son just listened to The Stand on audio. It was a version that added back some of the manuscript that Stephen King had cut. The thing was 46 hours long! I remember reading it years ago, and it was definitely scary.
Yeah, I never read the original. It’s the uncut, 1400 pages one I’ve got. I want to read IT next. Should have read it years ago, but never got around to it.
IT is my very favorite Stephen King book.
I think it was The Mist by Stephen King. I haven’t read IT.
The Mist was SO scary. Did you see the movie? I was really, really mad how they changed the ending.
The Amityville Horror scared the cr*p out of me! Granted…I was in 6th grade when I read it, but it was during a stormy, lightning-crackling spring week in TX and I was so freaked out, I couldn’t sleep with the book in my bedroom. Stephen King also caused me a lot of lost sleep. IT is way up there with the scare factor. I read This Present Darkness by Peretti earlier this year; it wasn’t scary to me but I’d recommend it for a Christian-themed horror story. How cool that he contacted you 🙂
The Amityville Horror was very scary. And Stephen King has definitely scared me a lot. I think his earlier stuff is scarier than his newer works. Maybe he’s mellowed a bit. LOL
There are lots of great, scary books out there. But for me, I have to go with Stephen King’s “IT”… that book was disturbingly awesome and kept me up at night. Loved it.
IT is definitely my favorite Stephen King book. As for it being the scariest…it’s for sure in the top five if not the scariest. *shivers*
