Last week was hectic since I had my friend’s 10-year-old son for almost a week. But that’s over, and although I miss him, it’s good for life to get back to normal. My goals are:
1) Write at least three hours this week. I didn’t write three hours. But there was a day at work where a scene was itching to get out, so I ended up writing it at work. I didn’t put it into my manuscript, but wrote it as a separate Word document. I need to figure out exactly where I want to add it since it’s from a “supporting” character’s POV.
2) Do at least 15 minutes of housework per day using the FlyLady challenges. I didn’t do it exactly this way, but I did get some housework done. I bought a couple of nice trunks, in two different sizes, to put some things in rather than have them scattered all over my bedroom or in ugly shoe boxes. And I got the Mt. Everest of paper off the bar that separates the kitchen from the living room. That looks much better now. 🙂
3) Get back to my healthy eating habits. It’s getting better. I’m taking baby steps in this.
So, are any of you finally getting some fall weather? We were actually in the high seventies yesterday instead of in the nineties. This was great since we went to my husband’s company picnic yesterday. Wonderful weather to be outside!
It is always nice when things go back to normal. I too have just gotten my house back from visitors.
The weather here has been nice also, I opened the windows yesterday to replace the stale a/c air with beautiful fall scented air. It was nice to feel the breeze coming in.
Good luck with all your goals, especially the healthy eating habits, those are the ones I need the most work on. 🙂
Cindy
I can’t wait to open the windows. I’m thinking about maybe opening them at night, then turning on the air conditioner during the day.
I think the healthy eating habits actually help with everything else, including the writing!
I love those moments when a scene just sweeps you away. Even if it doesn’t end up in the manuscript, it’s great practice, and maybe it can even be modified for something else in the future.
The weather here has taken a similar drop, though it gets to nearly the 40s at night! I’m curled up with some hot dinner and my comfy sweatshirt right now. Divine. Autumn is definitely my favorite season!
Keep it up, Lauralynn! Always pleased to get a chance to read your check-ins!
This scene will be in the manuscript. It’s going to help explain things. But, yeah, it’s great when that scene pops into your head as an “aha!” moment.
I used to love summer, but as I get older, I like autumn more and more.
Thanks for reading!
I love those scenes or even just bits of dialogue that pop up. I had a couple of them over the weekend. Only got one written down. Hoping the other doesn’t disappear. It can be hard getting back into a routine. Good luck this week!
I HAD to type this scene out. Had to. 🙂
The temperature dropped a good bit last night and I found myself shivering coming out of the cinema for the first time in months. The rain’s also back, but I missed it so I’m happy. 🙂
If you find that new scene from a different character’s POV doesn’t fit in to your novel later, you could always post it on your blog as an extra for fans.
These cooler temperatures are awesome. I wasn’t sure how things were going in your part of the world. We got so much rain in the earlier part of the summer that I was sick of it. We haven’t had any for awhile, so I’m ready for more rain.
What I’m trying to do is insert some other POVs to help tell the back story and get into the minds of some of the other characters. I’m going to do a post about that today or tomorrow.
Yes, it’s time for chilly nights! Break out the blankets and apple cider.
I love when a scene screams to be written even when that scene has nothing to do with what I’m currently working on. Although I really should be working on my novel, damn you vexing haunts of stories to be.
Glad you enjoyed your time with the kiddo, isn’t amazing how much energy their little bodies contain? I need a nap.
I’m so looking forward to fall. Apple cider! The apple orchard a mile down the road has apple cider slushes. Yum. I don’t think I can have those anymore, though.
At least the scene I had to write DID have to do with my WIP. 🙂
This kid isn’t too energetic. He’s kind of lazy. Like me. So we watched TV.
Yep, we’re finally getting fall weather. Today I even had some pumpkin spice tea to welcome in the season. 😀
Awesome on the WIP. Each scene counts! I’m glad you’re getting back into it.
I looked for a fall themed tablecloth while I was at K-Mart yesterday. Didn’t find a thing. 😦 But there were lots of Halloween and Christmas decorations. CHRISTMAS. Can you believe it?
I hope to really delve into the WIP this week. I’m going to do a post today about POV and ask for opinions on something. 🙂
Ooh, any photos of the trunks? I love trunks!
Always feels good to move a mountain of paper off a surface 🙂
I’ll try to get a pic of the trunks tonight. I actually bought the same larger trunk to give away as a gift basket on the RNConvention in August. I filled it with books, jewelry, and an Amazon gift card. Everyone wanted that trunk! I liked it so well that I got the same trunk plus a smaller version for my bedroom.
Just writing the scene will probably help flesh out other sections of the story, even if you never actually include the piece you wrote, Lauralynn. You probably got a lot more world perspective, more a sense of how external characters are being changed and altered by the circumstances…
Your story will grow richer and fuller.
And isn’t it so much nicer to have some slightly cooler weather? I’m really enjoying this fall already. And it’s not even really here….
I do plan on including the scene. A lot of people have mentioned “if you don’t include the scene”. That’s gotten me to thinking that maybe a lot of people write scenes that don’t end up in their books. I’ve never done that. If a scene hits me like this one did, it’s because it needs to be there. I wonder if my brain works differently from other writers’ brains. I never cut scenes from my book, either, although many writers do. I usually ADD scenes. Am I backwards? LOL
I can’t wait until Halloween, Thanksgiving, and then…Christmas! 🙂
